A seminal work
Jeff Liker has revised his best selling description of Toyota’s management system. Lots of new material and up to date material. An important guide for managers and students trying to understand the lean revolution and to draw lessons for their own organisations. An important book that will undoubtedly become a classic in time.

Comprehensive story behind the success of Toyota's customer-centric product development techniques
Before reading this book I'd read a few snippets in other books around Toyota's Lean way of working, but this book tells a comprehensive story not only about the success behind Toyota's legendary customer-centric product development techniques along with market performance data to back it up, but it also gives insight into how the business got out of its comfort zone to innovate with the Lexus and Prius. If you're an advocate for an empowered and learning culture, you'll love this book as it's packed with inspiring examples of how their success started with a healthy culture and a long-term philosophy. This book gives insight into how Toyota creates an ideal environment for implementing Lean techniques and tools by: 🔸️Fostering an atmosphere of continuous improvement and learning 🔸️Satisfying customers (and eliminating waste at the same time) 🔸️Getting quality right the first time 🔸️Coaching leaders from within rather than recruiting them from the outside 🔸️Teaching all employees to become problem solvers 🔸️Growing together with suppliers and partners for mutual benefit

Very similar to the first edition
If you have the first edition the updated commentary doesn’t add enough value to bother buying this book. If you don’t have the first edition then it’s a good introduction to TPS. Just don’t believe the description when it says it’s been updated for this edition far too much is similar.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Masterclass in Lean Thinking and Organizational Excellence
The Toyota Way, Second Edition is a brilliant and deeply insightful update to one of the most influential business books of the 21st century. Jeffrey Liker has taken the foundational principles of Toyota’s legendary production system and enriched them with fresh perspectives, real-world examples, and a stronger emphasis on systems thinking and people development. The book is structured around the 4P model—Philosophy, Process, People/Partners, and Problem Solving—and dives into 14 core management principles that have helped Toyota become a global benchmark for quality, efficiency, and innovation. What makes this edition stand out is its focus on long-term thinking, scientific problem-solving, and the importance of cultivating a learning organization. Liker’s writing is clear, engaging, and packed with practical insights. He doesn’t just present tools—he emphasizes the culture and mindset behind them. This edition also includes updated examples from both manufacturing and service industries, making it highly relevant across sectors. Whether you're a seasoned Lean practitioner, a manager seeking to improve team performance, or a student of organizational behavior, this book is a must-read. It’s not just about Toyota—it’s about building resilient, thoughtful, and continuously improving organizations.
