NedFoss Beast Pocket Knife for Men, 4" D2 Steel Large Folding Knife, Black

Incredible knife. Well constructed, beautiful finish, sturdy, and assembled with care. The weight and balance of the blade is perfect - you can snap it open with just a flick of the wrist, where it locks into place with the axis-lock mechanism. Then, you can utilize that to close the knife with one hand, as opposed to the lunacy of getting a knife with a liner lock, where you have to put your flesh in the path of the blade's path to close it. Awesome pocket clip on this thing too. Why pay two or even three hundred dollars for a brand known for being made on a "bench" when you can get one of these? Great value too - for about a tenth or an eighth of the price, this knife is every bit as good. It comes super sharp right out of the box. It's also the perfect size for carrying clipped to your pocket without it pulling your pants down because it's so heavy. I am deeply impressed with NedFoss, and I plan to explore the rest of the catalog.

This is a fantastic knife, it's worth more than twice the price! The knife is extremely well built. At this price point, I was expecting a cheap not well engineered knife. I was very pleasantly surprised. The fit and finish on this knife is great. The texture of the grips is excellent, the finish on the blade and hardware is consistent and very pretty. The blade itself moves effortlessly when you hit the flipper, but does not come unlocked when you don't want it to. Honestly, I was expecting that there would be some assist to the blade opening, but there is not. It does not need it though, I love the smooth slippery action of the flip on this knife. The blade also locks in very well when opened. The lock engages smoothly and solidly. The pocket clip is also very strong, very springy, and hasn't deformed losing it's grip. It's not relocatable, but also not uncomfortable in the hand. It's edges have also been sanded, providing that great grip in your pocket, but it won't damage your pants pocket when you take it out or put it back in. I also like that the blade has not been hollow ground. The factory edge on the knife is good. With a stropping alone before hand sharpening, the blade was able to shave fairly will. With a minimum of sharpening from there, I was able to make this shaving sharp. The D2 steel has been hardened and tempered well, it's taken a very sharp edge, and has persisted through many cardboard box breakdowns. The finish on the blade has also not been affected by the repeated slicing through cardboard boxes. I can't say enough about this knife. It's a big knife, so those of you that are looking for something very slim carry, this may not be your knife. But if you're looking for a tough EDC, and a knife that will last and hold up to much abuse, without breaking the bank, check this one out.

Love this thing. Action is smooth. Locks up really well...I have no doubts that it'll stay locked out. Very sturdy! Blade came sharp. If you want a larger heavier knife... Look no further. This is my 2nd NedFoss knife and I'll be buying more... They make a good budget knife. If you're on the fence... Just buy it.

The looks and feel of this knife are pretty good, especially considering the $50 price point. I also like that NedFoss used 14C28N rather than D2, which gives it much better corrosion resistance and makes it a better choice for wet or humid environments. After carrying and repeatedly opening and closing the knife, I decided to take it apart to see what was going on inside. The construction actually impressed me more than I expected. There are caged ball bearings on both sides of the blade with a machined race. Nothing exotic, but they're legitimate bearings and appear reasonably substantial. The silver “bolster” is actually part of the full metal frame/liner assembly. The G10 is essentially an overlay on the skeletonized metal chassis. The frame is aggressively skeletonized with two large windows on each side, which helps explain how they keep a fairly substantial knife around 4.1 oz. The button lock uses a pretty straightforward conventional plunge-lock arrangement. The pivot barrel has a D-flat to prevent rotation. On my example, however, the pivot fit rather roughly into the recessed portion of the liner, which made getting everything aligned correctly during reassembly more challenging than I expected. Now for the biggest issue: the pivot screw. Out of the box, the flipper action wasn't particularly impressive. I had to hit the flipper fairly hard, and sometimes add a little wrist movement, to get the blade to fully open and lock. For a $50 knife, I wasn't terribly concerned about that. After approximately 50 opening and closing cycles, however, I noticed substantial side-to-side blade play. I grabbed a T8 and discovered that the pivot screw had become very loose. I tightened the pivot until the blade was solid again. After another approximately 30 opening/closing cycles, the blade play returned. The pivot had loosened again. I tightened it again, repeated the test, and got the same result. At that point I disassembled the knife completely. See the attached photo. Interestingly, there appeared to be blue thread locker on the pivot screw from the factory, but it clearly wasn't keeping the screw in place. I cleaned the old material from both the male and female pivot threads, applied fresh blue removable thread locker, and reassembled the knife. While I had it apart, I also cleaned and lightly lubricated the caged bearings with knife oil. I allowed the thread locker to cure overnight. The following day, the pivot appeared to be staying properly adjusted and the blade remained solid. My only remaining complaint is the flipper action. The blade moves very freely when the button is depressed and will essentially free-fall closed, so the bearings are doing their job. I just wish the blade would fire open and lock with more authority from the flipper without requiring such a deliberate push. Maybe the geometrical flipper in relation to the pivot needs some design adjustments. Once again, its a $50 knife! The Civivi Elementum II has that figured out perfectly for $40. However, this Beast II is exactly as it's name implies when next to the Elementum. See picture. Overall, though, the hardware is decent, the bearings are good, the frame construction is better than I expected, and 14C28N is a good steel choice at this price. For a $50 Amazon knife, the internals actually impressed me. I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars. The recurring pivot issue prevents me from giving it five stars, but after cleaning the threads and applying fresh thread locker, mine appears to be functioning properly. One thing I did not test was the actual Rockwell hardness of the blade, so I can't comment on the heat treatment or make any claims about its HRC. That would require actual hardness testing rather than guessing based on the knife's price. I did look at NedFoss website and they have it listed at 60-62 HRC. Now I really want to test it because if it is in fact at that hardness rating, they have a robust heat treatment process. I somewhat find that hard to believe since this is a mass produced knife. It would be pretty safe to assume this specific mass produced knife would be around 57-59 HRC. For around $50, I think it's a good buy—just check the pivot periodically, especially during the initial break-in period.

Sharp, solid well built heavy knife. Blade opens amazingly easy with only slight pressure on the finger tab. Blade is on a bearing for super smooth action.

I bought this knife as a cheap knock around knife while I'm traveling around the state. First off this thing is under engineered, and I love it. It reminds me of using grand dad's old buck knife. It has the ergonomics of a hockey stick, so it's great for those of us with large hands or who work with gloves, or both. It also weighs as much as a hockey stick. Youll definitely know you're carrying it and likely everyone around you will know it too. Out of the box, deployment was quick and the detent does a great job on keeping the blade closed. I had no problem with the locking mechanism, even giving it a few good test wacks to know what I'm working with. The blade stayed locked open, and no signs of play in it at all. Out of the box, mine was about as sharp as a butter knife. Sharpening went quicker than I thought it would, so I have some doubts on it's claim of D2 steel, but it did go slower than sharpening my Kershaws and SOGs which are softer steels, so my doubts may be completely unfounded. I generally wouldn't recommend a folder as a bush knife, but this would certainly do most anything you'd need during a weekend camping trip. It has enough meat on the blade it would even likely come back in one piece. Bottom line if you want a pocket knife that you dont want to baby, you don't mind everyone knowing it's in your pocket, and you don't want to shed too many tears if you drop it to the bottom of a lake, this is for you. Just make sure you can sharpen it first. Side note. It looks like you can drill a small hole in one of the scales and make the pocket clip ambidextrous. If I decide to do that I'll update this review with the results. Edit: Wow I've had this thing 2 years. After my trip it has lived in a drawer, on the floorboard of my truck, and on my porch where it could get good and rained on. It hasn't rusted. It has also seem a good bit of general use against rope, boxes bottle caps and the odd bit of plaster. The blade action has remained consistent and I have not had to adjust it aside from the occasional drop of oil to help work out the pocket lint. Shallowest sharpen I could reasonably maintain is around 26 degrees according to my budget angle gauge.

TL;DR: Outstanding strength, durability, and edge retention. Absolutely worth it. NedFoss makes seriously high quality knives, and this one has proven itself over time. I accidentally dropped it outside while doing yard work and didn’t recover it for nearly five months. When I finally found it, there wasn’t a single issue, no rust problems, no damage, nothing. It was still solid and ready to work. I’ve also dropped it onto my driveway while working on my solar panels (yes… from the roof). No chips, no cracks, no edge damage. This knife is built tough. Edge retention is excellent. I give it a light sharpening every couple of months, but honestly, it doesn’t demand frequent maintenance like many other pocket knives I’ve owned. It holds an edge exceptionally well. It’s not a small knife, but that’s part of its strength. It feels substantial, dependable, and performs great across a wide range of projects. If you’re looking for a durable, hard use blade that actually lives up to its claims, this one delivers.

I have been collecting knives for more than 30 years and I've even made a couple of my own fixed blades. I've seen plastic handled cheap all the way up to high quality and high price. My first impression of this knife is that it is very stout and well made for the money. The hard canvas case is a plus, but don't know if I will be using it for carry. I like the D2 steel blade, balance, thickness of the blade, blade design (just like a S.O.G. Fielder) and brass liners for ease of opening even without a spring. The blade comes sharpened with a factory grind, but if you want it razor sharp like I do, you'll want to sharpen it yourself. I bought it for a remote camping trip I will be going on for 5 days putting it through the paces. I will be using it for various camp chores as well as splitting (batoning) for campfire wood. I will update after I return to let y'all know how well it performed. I have high hopes and a backup just in case. UPDATE: Back from a great trip! This knife has exceeded my expectations. I cut ropes with it, carved and whittled roasting sticks, chopped limbs and split wood with it (batoning). The D2 blade stayed tight, remained sharp and cleaned up with no scratches on the blade, even after splitting wood. The scales and handle feel really good in my large hands and never felt like I was going to let loose of it. If you're doing extreme off grid backpacking or overlanding, I recommend always having a good solid fixed blade or a hatchet, but sometimes you need to travel as light as possible for longer backpacking trips. Either way, I'm confident this knife can handle almost all of your every day and camping needs. Really good knife for the price!

Ich dachte, dass es auf Knopfdruck von alleine Ausschwenkt, tut es leider nicht. Man muss es zeitgleich mit einer Handbewegung rausschwenken. Zum einklappen muss man wieder den Knopf drücken. Es macht einen wertigen Eindruck und ist für die Hosentasche nicht zu groß.

Gut schärfbar stabil ….. lediglich nichts für kleine Hände …….. mir ist das relativ egal ….. das Messer begleitet mich sowohl in der Freizeit als auch bei der Arbeit …….ist schnell zu öffnen und verfügt ( für den Notfall ) über eine ausreichende parier Fähigkeit

Messer ist stabil und gut zu handhaben. Scharf geschliffen ist es auch. Alltagstest kommt noch.

Artikel wie Beschrieben, nichts zu Bemängeln.

Das Messer lässt sich sehr leicht bedienen und ist als Einhandmesser in Deutschland mit entsprechenden "Auflagen" behaftet. Es ist soweit (Preis/Leistung) gut verarbeitet und robust. Ein Stern fehlt, da bei mir die Struktur der Griffschalen nicht wie auf den Bildern gleichmäßig ist und daher leicht abgegriffen aussieht. Zudem sind die Schrauben unter dem Clip nicht identisch mit der gegenüberliegenden Seite, d.h. ohne Clip sind die beiden Messergriffe durch die unterschiedlichen Schrauben unterschiedlich. Das sind kleine optische Mängel bei einem sonst gelungen Messer. Mal sehen ob ich die identische kleine Schräubchen bekomme und tauschen kann. War mal mutig und habe NedFoss angemailt. Leider keine Reaktion von Nedfoss und da mich zudem die Griffschalen noch stören habe ich das Messer nun noch zurückgeschickt.
