Easy to assemble
It was easy to assemble unlike the old one from the 70s. Be prepared it’s much smaller than the old one. Remembering as a kid the old one had a metal neck, and when you hit the other guy, it made a ratcheting sound when you popped his head this is plastic, not holding against the manufacturer that’s how it is nowadays, but that used to be a cool feature of the game the sound of his head popping up sounds stupid, but when you were a kid that was cool, but it came fast easy to assemble. Seems sturdy enough for a plastic toy.

Going back to an old game is great!
I miss this game. I haven't played it in ages. Now I get to play it again! It looks as good as it should be, it's simple to play, and pretty much anyone can play it!

A little disappointed
Of course the commercials make it look like so much fun and action packed to my 5 yo. It’s sort of old school fun, back when we didn’t have so much technology. He played with it once and hasn’t again since. I think the excitement for this toy quickly ended. The robots disconnect from the controller easy enough that you have to put it back together to work, a bit frustrating.

NOT the original!
This is NOT the original version. This is much smaller and more cheaply made. The plastic is relatively soft. I don't expect it to last. As a gag gift or party favor, it is fine. If you had the original as a kid, it is cool to have again, and you will probably be bored with it before you break it anyway. However, I definitely do not recommend buying it for a child who will want to play with it long term. It will break. Worst part: they took away the mechanism that made the ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzhhhh sound when a robot lost his head! Terrible decision, just terrible. It is like when the Dukes of Hazzard didn't have Bo and Luke. Still had Daisey and the General Lee, so I watched, but not really the same. Rock'em Sock'em Robots without the ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzhhhhh is not the same.

BUYER BEWARE: This is NOT the original Marx version
Far as I can tell, there are two versions of this Mattel game sold on Amazon (and then much smaller versions for show and not play). I bought both and am disappointed with both. Despite other customer reviews, these are NOT same scale as the original game (I mean the original Marx version prior to 2000 and not the Mattel versions). I think the original robots stood at least 8" high in the original, while this version has 5.75" robots, and the more expensive version sold on Amazon has 6.75" robots. The functional quality and overall "fun factor" diminishes EXPONENTIALLY with scaling, so I'd say the 6.75" version is maybe half as fun as the original, while this 5.75" is no fun at all and might offer some nostalgia value as purely display. Whoever at Mattel decided to shrink the size (and functional quality) of the game clearly hasn't played it. Your kids will be bored with these scaled down lesser versions in a matter of minutes if not sooner. I'll be posting similar about the 6.75" other version I also purchased.
