Lots of fun for my 3 year old
We bought this for my son's 3rd birthday and it was a huge hit. He loves to hook the crane onto other toys and try to lift them up and "rescue" them. It's really easy for him to turn the knobs and move it around. He typically plays with it on the floor, but it's also a good table toy (as long as he doesn't tip it over). I worry about the strings breaking on the pulleys, but so far they seem to be able to handle the play he puts into it. It appears to be well made and is far better than the cheap plastic toys he has.

Perfect gift for our 2 year old Grandson
Our 2 year old grandson loves paying with this. Easy to put together, and seems very sturdy and well made.

Love it but I think we may have received a previously "returned" crane - which might explain our trouble.
I love Hape toys and have bought a ton of them. I really like this crane because its the only one I found that is TRUE to what Cranes look like and how they operate. They get A+ for that and two thumbs WAY UP on design!!! I also love that its wood. My only "semi-complaint" is that our crane is too loose where the little operator's cabin meets the stand. I am not sure, but I think we may have received a previously returned crane. The box looked like it had been opened already and the packaging inside didn't seem "new" - in addition one of the screw holes was mis-drileld slightly and it made it really hard to put together (which may be why this particular one was returned?). So, because HAPE is the best I would normally send this back but it took us so much effort to finally get it together because of the mis-drilled hole that we will probably keep it. We have it on display in our sons room so he can understand where daddy is at work - where the BIG CRANE is. He is too young to really play with it yet but when that time comes I think my husband is going to put an additional 2 screws from the cabin into the base it sits on to secure it better. Those 2 issues aside (which may be just this one crane) it is actually a really cool toy and in keeping with HAPE done brilliantly with realistic functioning. Its pretty cool! We also got the HAPE dump truck to go with it - no complaints on that. It's great!

Wooden Crane!
My son asked for a crane for Christmas, but most of the sets I was finding were plastic and seemed really cheaply made. When I found this wooden set I was so excited! I’m not sure of another wooden Crane that exists. It is a beautiful wooden Crane with a sturdy plastic cab window. It has knobs to control the hook and a platform for loading things on to. It swings around in a complete circle. My son loves to put lego guys in the cab. I have read reviews about it coming apart or not being sturdy and while we haven’t really had that problem in the 4 months we have had it, I can see how rougher play might make that happen. The Crane does come off its base and my son does take it apart on purpose sometimes. And after awhile it sometimes looses and needs to be tightened, but it doesn’t bother me and it doesn’t do it often. Even with this slight issue it still seems sturdy to me and more so than the plastic sets I’ve seen. My son really loves his Crane and he makes whole construction sites around it. It’s also so cute and looks great displayed in his room. Hope this helps!

Feels cheaper
Cute toy. It is not built as sturdy as I would have liked. Expensive for it to have these problems. Kids still enjoy it and the size is fun for blocks, animals, etc.

Wrong dimensions
The picture in the description says it’s 42 inches tall. It’s only about 21 inches. Plus it is not sturdy and hard to control. I do not recommend.

Wooden crane that lifts.
We bought a new one after he was gifted a well loved one that finally broke. The construction of this crane is really good. My little one was excited to see he got his beloved crane back.

Bought for my 5 year old great nephew who loves it as do the adults! Looks great, works well, made of sustainable wood so will last a long time but not forever like plastic toys. I try to buy wood and metal toys where I can and this one made me happy as well as the child it was gifted to and his eco aware parents. It was the biggest hit of his Christmas along with the beautiful dumper truck by the same company. I took it them other out the box and had a little play myself before wrapping. Lovely strong, simple but beautifully made toys.

My son (3y) loves it - easy to use and great fun! We’ve built our own extra construction things (pipes, ropes, pallets, baskets using cardboard and string) so we have lots of things to move now!
