Our pet trainer recommended this crate to us. It is much more durable than the wire crate our dog destroyed prior to this crate. The assembly was easy and we take it on trips with us due to the light weight. We have a have a 100+ pound dog and he fits in fine. I don't like the appearance as much as the wire crate but it seems much safer for our dog. It is a little expensive but our puppy is worth it.

I don't write reviews often, but my wife and I agreed that we needed to share about this kennel. We rescued a Great Dane and Labrador mix a year ago and it has been extremely difficult. Like a similar reviewer, he has extreme separation anxiety, and he seemed to have had a severely traumatizing experience with traditional wire crates when he was young. we were told that he was crate trained, but after the first few weeks, he began to have some scary episodes. He would chew on the bars of the cage, causing saliva to pool on the floor under the crate and creating a dangerous hydration situation for himself (my wife and I are teachers) while we were gone. He did this so much that the bars rusted and were no longer as effective. He started breaking out when we were gone, forcing us to try many ways of keeping him in like zip ties and carabiners. When he got out he was extremely destructive and, in several occasions, would get into dangerous things like medicine (which one time landed him in detox at the vet for three days). After a while, we gave up on the crate entirely, but he was still very destructive. He ate our wedding album, all remote controls, including an Xbox controller, and pretty much anything we left out ever. It was never fun coming home. We were so frustrated, and we just about gave up on our beloved pup. We thought we might look into crates again after summer and found this kennel. Is it expensive? Absolutely. As teachers, we saw this as a huge leap of faith money-wise. In the week we have had this, we have seen DRAMATIC change in behavior while we are away. It's so nice not having to worry about the mess he may have made while we are away or cleaning it up when we get home. He also seems much happier when we come home. He used to bark and howl when we got home. Now, he sits and waits for us to open the door. No more drool pools!! Even when we are home, he will walk in and lay down in the box. That is something that never happened before with the wire cage. If you are planning on purchasing this kennel, it is important that you make is "cave" a positive place. Our dog gets fed in his crate, any time he goes in the crate he gets a treat, his favorite toys are in the crate, we have put our clothing in the crate, and we have even spent time laying in the crate with him (this should also give you an idea of just how big this box is). Make it a happy place. They will want to spend time there if they know that there's something good coming out of it. UPDATE: 1/28/2015 Unfortunately, we have had to return our crate. We bought it during winter break, knowing we would have time to make it a positive place, and that his first few stays would be short. When we returned to school (we are both teachers), he became so stressed about going in that he would not even lick the peanut butter out of his kong the entire day. Instead, he began chewing on the metal bars on the door. After about 10 days of crating and chewing, he broke the soldering on one of the bars on the door and cut up his nose and gums. Mostly, our issue is the dog. He is a rescue who was abandoned as a puppy, so he has extreme separation anxiety. However, I do believe that the soldering on this box is the main issue here. If you notice that the dog has started bending the bars, act fast.

I bought the 90-125lb model kennel on a recommendation from a breeder, as she has 5 of them for each of her Berners. Our boy is 115 lbs. and stands as tall as out kitchen table. He has been getting into mischief when left unattended for the hour he is alone in the morning. The overall height of this kennel is almost up to my chest and I am 5'4" tall. The kennel holds both my Berner and my Golden to lay side by side and cozy. I am able to fit inside and I am also 200+ pounds. My husband was able to crawl in this kennel keeping his legs outside of the door and he is 300 pounds and 6'0 tall! With this in mind, make sure you have ample space for this!!!! It is a LARGE LARGE LARGE kennel for our LARGE LARGE LARGE breeds!! As for my Berner, he hates kennels so we are slowly introducing it to him. He wasn't a rescue, but he was kenneled by a previous owner and things did not go well. He has some issues. The kennel: It's LARGE enough for your Giant Breed. It's STURDY. It's easy to assemble in less that 20 minutes alone. Put the top on, secure in place with screw and plastic nuts. Make sure the door is the direction you want it to go before securing the sides or you will have to take it apart and redo it. The door is a little clunky when opening and closing, but I'm sure that will change with frequent use. The latch is husband proof. He had a minute when trying to open it. (Haha!) The latch is also pet proof. It's a dial and has a push button mechanism for opening. Great for those escape artists. This product as it stand earns its 5 stars in my book.

My review is not directly on the item but on what appears to be a trend of Amazon selling broken/defective/previously returned items and a gripe about "2 day shipping". These crates are awesome. Buy one somewhere else. I ordered from Petco with free shipping after I had to return the one from Amazon which arrived with about a 5 inch hole broken in the back. It appeared to have been previously damaged and repackaged because there was no damage to the box in that area and there were no plastic shards or remnants inside from the broken area to be found. This situation has occurred on an increasing frequency with Amazon over the last couple years. Not sure the cause, but the fact that it has happened repeatedly seems to indicate it is not a coincidence. This is extra frustrating in this case because where we live, I cant leave it out for UPS to pickup, so even with the Amazon policy to provide a return label, (which is nice) I nevertheless got to drive 70 miles round trip, just to take this HUGE container to a UPS store to be sent back, and pay $23 in diesel because my large truck was the only vehicle I had that would accommodate the item. So with Amazon it seems like its becoming a bit of a guessing game as to whether or not your item will arrive in new condition, and in the advertised time. I ordered this on a Friday, it arrived on a Wednesday with "2 day shipping"...I won't bother complaining to customer service because the last time I did, I was told that "I needed to better understand how Prime works". I fully get that there was a weekend in there, but "2 day" in that instance, means Tuesday by my clock. I will now assume that any item ordered has maybe a 85% chance of arriving in new and intact condition and I will pay close attention to the "estimated delivery date" even though I paid for, and selected, "2 day" shipping with prime.

i owned a giant vari kennel for my yellow lab lance years ago and it was a must-have for our home with a high energy destructive puppy! as he became a senior, i got rid of it as it took up a lot of space. he was almost 16 years old when he passed this past march. we knew we would adopt another lab but were sure it would be awhile. less than a month later, we became foster failures when we adopted our year old black lab/great dane mix murphy. we will never know murphy's whole story but he has severe separation anxiety and although i was experienced with the breed, this was a whole new world of destruction when we were away. we bought a cage/wire training crate and after he hurt himself clawing out of it a second time, we spent another $200 for the tried and true giant vari-kennel. yes, it is ENORMOUS and takes up a lot of space, but it's the perfect size for our growing mutant puppy and it keeps him safe when we're away. because we're able to come home knowing murphy hasn't destroyed another door, window ledge or curtain, we're able to love him even more. i HIGHLY recommend this product! siempre - dorana

I needed this kennel for a 56 lb dog that has separation anxiety because the round door lock is one that is harder for dogs to figure out how to open. This crate is for dogs a lot larger than 56 lbs, but since he has separation anxiety, I am trying to train him to be comfortable in his crate and the larger the crate, the easier that will be. This crate is working wonderfully. He's learned that he can't use his teeth to open the door latch and he can't muscle his way through the door or the sides. In a previous foster home, he'd busted out of a metal crate, so he had already been conditioned to think he could bust out of any crate. I have a camera set up to watch him and within a few weeks, his attempts to escape from the crate petered down to nothing and now he just sleeps while in it, because he's learned that he can't escape, and that realization gave him the opportunity to learn that I always come back, so the crate isn't something to panic about. This crate is great for separation anxiety that is not too over the top, but it does require some initial training (by either setting outside under a window or using a camera to send verbal corrections whenever the dog tries to paw at the door or window). If you devote time to doing that training for several weeks, than this crate will hold up through the training and will become a sanctuary for your dog. One note, if your dog has such bad separation anxiety that he would break through glass or eat a full wooden door to get back to you, then you either need to devote A LOT of training with this crate, or you need to step up to a metal crate. This is plastic, which means a persistent dog could eat through it if he was inclined and unsupervised for long enough without the initial training.

We have not travelled with it yet but overall it meets every requirement we and the airline have.

The product was exactly what I expected. Except the seller advertised it was new with minor damage consisting of surface scratches. Which in actuality one of the corners was completely broken off.

No problems shipping a large Labrador retriever through Air Canada cargo with this kennel. Could be 5* except it's very expensive.

Mi perro es un schnauzer gigante de más de 45 kilos , le queda perfecto este tamaño, ya que no habíamos encontrado una que le quedara bien y cómoda. Hay que tomar en cuenta que es muy complicado viajar con esta transportadora, debido al tamaño es difícil de cargar y NO cabe en una camioneta tipo suburban, requerirás transportación especial o llevarla desarmada. Por lo demás muy bien y resistente.
