convenient tasty roast beef & gravy in a can. Good flavor hot or cold. Pantry staple
It's quite good, not sure if 5 star good but I think its good enough to warrant full rating. I would buy it again. I usually buy [[ASIN: B001E4Q4BU Libby Roast Beef]], but the price has been all over the place. Currently $96 for a stack of 24 ($4 per can), or $81.60 with subscribe and save ($3.40). Not "bad" but not great. Falls in line with current prices in store. Originally was buying it for $60 for 24, which still makes this Hormel a better find. But finding this Hormel brand for $24 for a stack of 12 was a very good purchase. I see that it is no longer available, so I wonder if when it comes back it will be jacked up in price. I dont rate on price, but I do comment. Was really nice to add to my food supplies and not spend a fortune. If Libby and Hormel were same price, and I was choosing between the two, I would likely select Libby. Taste wise, it is good. It tastes like roast beef with gravy. Lighter color gravy than Libby, but the taste is similar. Chunks of beef are big and tender. Heats up well, or if need be is not too shabby eaten direct from can. I like keeping food like this on hand for ultra convenience, but also as a means for having something on hand in case of emergency or whatever the situation may be. Food can be scarce in store, food may not look good, might not be able to get to store (weather, illness, car breakdown, etc). So I simply keep a wide assortment of foods readily available. I started with buying a few extra cans, jars, boxes, bags of whatever when doing a normal grocery run. Then I began pricing bulk items online, and really branched out. I never had roast beef in a can until recently, and am pleasantly surprised how delicious it is. I have a big appetite and can easily eat a whole can along side some mashed potatoes and vegetables. I have split the can between two servings for ore reasonable portion size and to see if I can stretch it a bit (trying to figure out how much I need for two people). Acquired 10/2022 with a BEST BY date of late 2025. For reals, I dont pay much attention to the date. It is NOT a safety date. Check govt sites, and all will say that it is not a safety date. It is JUST a "guaranteed" to be same consistent quality through that date if stored under proper conditions. That's it. For those that see the date and toss it, you are throwing away money (which they bank on ignorance). If cans are in good condition, then they are going to be fine for many many many years. If cans come dented, then plan to use them up soon. Only products that should be used in timely manner are acidic foods like tomatoes. All else will be fine. Might degrade in taste and nutrients, but safety is rarely in question. Comically they have this listed as vegetarian. Uh, no. It's beef.

Better than I expected!
The beef is pretty tender and not overly fatty. The gravy tastes very good. The product can be used for a variety of recipes that call for beef. The price was lower than one would pay at most supermarkets.

For a FAST, EASY supper, you can't beat this family favorite!
I grew up loving Bunker Hill Beef and Beef Stock over rice. Sadly, Bunker Hill discontinued their beef and beef stock! Learning they had discontinued was one of my worst days ever. I've been looking for a product to take it's place, and by gum, I FINALLY found that replacement! While Hormel Roast Beef and Gravy isn't an exact match, if you had a half can of water to the gravy, it turns out almost identical to the Bunker Hill Beef and Beef Stock. And my family loves it as much I do! Now I get a case of Hormel Beef and Gravy every couple of months using Amazon's Subscribe and Save feature. If you grew up on Bunker Hill Beef and Beef Stock, you REALLY ought to try this Hormel product out. You'll love it! When I prepare it, I use a wooden spoon to break up the big meat chunks the same way my mom did when I was a child. This product brings back some really great memories of my childhood. More importantly, I'm giving my children the same great quick and super easy meal that I so loved as a child. And STILL love as a grandfather! I'm SO GLAD I found this product! How to prepare it? Open the can. Dump the sauce and beef chunks into a saucepan. I use a wooden spoon in my cooking, and I use it to scrape out al of the gravy I can, then I use the tip of the wooden spoon to break up the chunks into small pieces. It only takes a few seconds to break up the chunks. Then I fill the can halfway with hot water. Using the wooden spoon I get all of the gravy out, and I do mean all! After that, the meat is cooked so all you need do is warm it until it is hot. Then spoon it over rice, and you have a very tasty, great smelling, filling, SATISFYING meal! I love it! For the money, you get a great 3 minute supper. The rice? 20 minutes, 1 small glass of rice and 2 small glasses of water. Just 2 pots to clean gives you a meal that will be a family favorite! Serve it with Southern cooked green bean s and potatoes and a tall glass of sweetened Southern iced tea - what could be better?

Just Like Mom Made...
Our first time purchase of this canned beef and we are sure to stock up this one soon! The gravy is real, not runny/watery. Salted but not overly so. The beef is Medium/Large chunks, no shreds, no bits. This is one fantastic addition to your pantry to add into soups, beans, ramens. Roast Beef Ramen is good alone but this puts it over the top. The price is right for what you get. Beef prices will eventually drop from the all time highs now. Buy This! Be Happy... Shelf Life Is Very Long But Even Better When Stored In A Cool And Dark Area As In A Basement.

Great on mashed potatoes.
I use this on mashed potatoes or over rice. The gravy is thick; not runny. This is the best canned meat that I've ever tasted. Makes for a fast quick meal.

Great flavor. Exactly what I expected
This roast beef in gravy is delicious! The meat is very tender and the gravy to meat ratio is perfect. I live alone and this is perfect to have on hand. I put it on instant potatoes, it would be delicious in a stroganoff type dish over noodles, or with rice. The possibilities are endless.
