If by on its own you mean automatically, then no. It is, however, articulated to allow for posing.

Does this action figure come off the base

Yes. There is a small peg in the base and a hole in the figure's left foot so it can stand on the platform, or you can take it off completely.

is this for kids or collectable?

It could absolutely be for kids. It's rubbery plastic and comes off the base, so a kid could run him all over the place for adventures! But it wouldn't look bad on a shelf with other figures in a collection, either.

It stands about 7 in. Almost exactly the same as the newer Marvel Legends Thor. In fact, I swapped out this one for the ML version for the improved articulation.
