Yes, this set can be used by both girls and boys. The set includes holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, St. Patrick's. The set also includes flowers, trains, cars, fire truck, animals,beach items, fish, airplanes, birds, dinosaurs, buildings, letters, and numbers.

Do they have a lower case alphabet?

Correction: They were a gift and we thought they had upper and lower case. Checked with our sister-in-law and they DID NOT have lowercase letters.

can you use these on fabric?

I don't see why not, as long as you used fabric appropriate paint/markers. The stencils are a thick plastic so they would probably work well.

Would these stencils be too large to use for painting on 2 in. x 2 in. baby blocks? Or are the pictures small enough to fit?

I would say maybe 1/4 of the stencils would work ok. Many of the stencils such as trains, planes, dinosaurs, sea animals will be too large for 2x2 inch blocks.
