Very solid. Worth it.
I previously owned a much cheaper shock collar which functioned but after a year, no longer held a charge. This one has a much more solid build than those. The quality is evident. I was torn between a few different models from Sport Dog and decided this one had the most flexibility. First, I wanted the ability to use either the audible beep, vibration or shock. I also wasn’t sure what level of shock was needed for my 70 lb Golden who is mild mannered but occasionally very stubborn. This one provided all 3 levels to allow me to find the right level. Turns out, it only took low at level 3 to get his attention. I like that it’s orange, in case I misplace it— easier to see where I dropped it. Like the screen, it provides exactly the info I need (shock level, battery remaining) What I really like is that it’s water proof. My dog loves to swim, run in the snow, splash in mud puddles, etc and I don’t worry about having to take off the collar for those environments. As far as the shock, I only had to give him the juice twice. The first time, I had it set at medium and dog nearly jumped in the air when I hit the button. From there, I only needed to grab the remote and he knew I meant business and would follow the command provided. A few weeks passed and only a beep was needed to correct him. Then he decided to test the boundaries again as he ignored a command to stop as he was headed towards a place I didn’t want him to go. Hit him with the zap, at a much lower level then previously used. He stopped in his tracks and returned immediately. Have not had to provide any correction since. Overall, it’s expensive but it’s good quality with huge range, lots of options and the battery seems to last forever between charges. It is well worth the piece of mind it provides when hiking with my dog, off-leash.

Solid collars
I have American Bullies. Cheap collars just do not hold up well for this breed. They are chewers and are also great at ignoring you at times. These collars are not cheap but you get what you pay for. Great training collars. Be sure to read section on training.

Life changing - absolutely!
Got this setup for an adventurous Golden-Lab mix. He’s a little over 2 yrs old and developed a habit of taking off into the wild with his friends when I’d let him out to do his business or even when we were all hanging out in the backyard and didn’t pay attention to him for a few minutes. Truthfully though, he had way worse habits before. Over time, patience was hard to come by and we do love this creature, so had to do something to keep him safe. We quickly learned that he doesn’t like electricity, and within days he’s been a better more obedient dog and even playing fetch is a better experience. Both the collar and remote are easy to charge, and the charge holds fairly well, meaning it’s enough to charge the collar once a week, the remote holds a charge even better. Like I said, after about 3 instances of vibrating him he quickly learned what comes after the beep so he’s been soooooo much easier and better. I’ve made the mistake of not purchasing this product earlier thinking it was inhumane, basing that on very little knowledge really. This device could have spare the dog from being hit by vehicles 2x and us from a whole lot of heartache and frustration when going through the chewy youngster stage. Also, it was dropped in water and it didn’t affect the device at all. Wonderful product. I wish there was a tutorial video that’s easy to locate and explains all the different settings. For a beginner user it wasn’t so easy peasy to figure those out. Update: A year or so later, this is still going strong, working as it’s supposed to. The collar needs weekly+ charging, but the remote can go on one charge for months. It’s been in rain, mud and still works like a charm. From pups perspective, it’s really really a rarity to have to buzz him, a beep is enough to get his attention back on track. Blessing! Update 2 - review has been hidden by a sensitivity filter. Really wonder why. It’s a wonderful product, let that be known.

Good products, but a few problems
This is the 2nd Sport Dog collar I have purchased, the first being a yard trainer for my 1st dog, which I love and have used for about a year. No complaints. I decided to try a better model as my younger dog is more of a challenge. So far, it seems great. However I’ve barely gotten to use it due to the box not containing a user guide, leaving me to figure out the buttons and modes by myself before using the collar on him. Then day 1 of putting the collar on and taking him out to start training, by the time i attempted to head home I noticed the antenna must have come unscrewed and fallen off. I have no idea where. Tried to order a replacement and they are out of stock, and I’ve seen other reviews about the antenna falling off so easily. It’s a great product but a user guide and stable antenna are quite important or it’s useless. Now it’s sitting around not being used until whenever the antennas are back in stock which is very disappointing after only 1 use. **Update: Called the customer service phone number with low expectations, but they were extremely helpful and very quick. 10 minutes from the time I dialed until it was resolved. Since receiving a new antenna, we’ve used the product a few times and couldn’t be happier.

I use this with most of my dogs, great training tool, vibration and stimulation. Has 2 different buttons for low stimulation then second bottoms automatically goes up 2. Vibration is separate button. Easy to use. Has long lasting charge.

I’ve been using e-collars for over 30 years - sportdog makes a reliable and functional unit. Easy to add a second collar. Robust. Used daily. I like the way this unit attaches to the charging interface - string upgrade compared to the attachment system 10 years ago. Easy to switch among dogs. Well designed screen layout. Buttons easy to use and understand. Would buy again.

Overall very good but had one issue with it.. I lost the antenna after it unscrewed itself and fell off! I am using this to train a hunting dog and will graduate to a larger distance product later. Pro's: - very rugged design compared to other brands out there - Clear screen - easy to use and understand - buttons are configurable to different functions (beep, static - continuous and/or one-time and vibrate) - Charger uses contacts and not pins which I think will ensure it will last longer and less susceptible to water/other damage - Comes with a good clip and a lanyard - Battery life seems good, I have only needed to charge it once since getting and that was a couple days ago.. battery still says full and I have used it 4-5 times Cons: - The antenna is detachable and it screws in, I didn't think to use thread locker so I lost it! - The antenna is long so it sometimes can make the unit a little awkward (small gripe) - The beep sound seems a little quiet to me but the dog is responding to it... I would suggest you use some thread locker to make sure this doesn't happen to you or just be aware of it. Its cool you can replace the antenna but I wish I thought about this before I lost it. I contacted SportDog customer service to see if they can help me out. The collar still responds without the antenna but I don't know how much distance I lose without the antenna. Overall, very good and heads above the other options out there IMO so if your thinking about it then this is a very good option.

Bought this a month ago for our two year old Aussie, Jax. After losing our last dog to a porcupine encounter I was reluctant to let Jax off lead for fear of another similar incident. His call back was a work in progress, but not yet tested. This was the cure all with a little time and patience and he is off lead with me all the time now with fantastic call back. The HUGE BONUS related to his constant alert barking. We have a wrap around balcony that overlooks a lot of nature and his barking at every sight or sound was a pain......but we understood he was just doing his job. One accidental zap (it really was an accident on my part) and he automatically came to understand what "quiet" meant. No more 2 am barking at the slightest noises. He still barks when the coyotes howl but that is to be expected. A couple of "quiets" followed with "good boy" reinforcement and we are back to sleep. A real game changer ........freedom of lead for our big boy, and a more restful house for us all.

Have been using it everday all day for the last 4 months with our GSP and its great. Its been holding up well and the remote is great. Really like the screen and being able to customize what buttons do what so you can tune it to how you want to train your dog. I would recommend it.
