Which is better,  the artist or the tri action?

I've only ever used the Artist. The bulk of the hardware is above the fret board, out of the way of the back of your hand. It's easy to use and the range of tension adjustment is prefect. The Tri Action has the release lever behind the neck, right where your hand is if you're playing chords anywhere near it; I can't imagine that not being an annoyance. I never tried a one, but don't plan on ever using anything but the Artist.

when i am done with the capo i like to clamp it to headstock.  can you clamp this capo to the headstock when not in use?

I’m not sure if others approve of this storage method, but I’ve been clamping the capo to the headstock for over a year with no discernible damage. When clamping it to the headstock, I always have the flatter string bar on the front. The hard ‘rubber’ padding seems to prevent any issues.

Question 4

Does the tension adjuster really help keep the guitar in tune? Most capos detune the guitar.

Accepted Answer

The tension may not actually be what is detuning your guitar.  Different fret boards have a different radius, so the curvature of the capo used may make more of a difference than the tightness (not that the tightness of a capo doesn't detune guitars, it totally can!).  The type of capo that works on a Martin may not work well on a Taylor, etc.  I have a Larrivee OM-03, that has a slightly less curved fret board than other guitars, and this capo works well for that guitar.  I also have a Paige capo that works well on my Voyage-Air, but is terrible for my Larrivee (even though the tension on it is also adjustable).
