Crafting with Wood Pallets: Projects for Rustic Furniture, Decor, Art, Gifts and more

One of my hobbies is browsing the free section on Craigslist, and I've recently been noticing a lot of pallets up for grabs. Continuing with this train of thought, I called some local businesses (grocery stores, home depot, etc.) to see if they had pallets to give away as well. I wanted to make something with all this wood, but I wasn't sure what, so I bought this book. I was really happy that it offered suggestions on where to get pallets, and many of the suggestions lined up with my own searching, and was most excited that it included a section on pallet quality. One of the things I had trouble with on my own was collecting a lot of pallets, and having discrepancies in quality, size, and color. Thanks to this book I now know why!Beyond this basic information I was quite happy with the things this book recommends to build with pallets. The projects range from easy (key hanger) to pretty hard (wine bar), and each instruction is easy to follow. Lamb also includes overviews of all the tools one may need while working with pallets, and includes which auxiliary parts may be necessary (metal hooks, etc.). I also love that Lamb includes ideas for what to do with pallet scraps such as a memory game. Since one of the main reasons I got this book was to reduce global waste, and get into recycling wood into art, I very much like her 'use every part approach.' Very cool book for the handyperson of any age! Could see it being a really fun time for a dynamic parent/child pair.

Some great ideas in this book. Waiting for the snow to melt to try building some. Very pleased!

I purchased this book for my father to give him some ideas on what he could make with the pallets he has. The book has some nice ideas with easy to follow instructions. I just wish the book was longer and had some more complex projects. I would say this book is suitable for a beginner craftsman/woman and not someone who already is good with building things. It seemed the projects would be too easy for him, but definitely some good ideas in here.

The media could not be loaded. This book is not a book like I thought it was going to be. Although filled with several amazing ideas, I thought that this was going to be a larger book than what it was. I'm not 100% dissatisfied though, there were some really cool ideas I can't wait to make!

I was honestly hooked from the Introduction. I loved the personal touch that her mom made her and her sister things on a budget. That's the kind of mom I want to be. So much of the stress of life comes from being uncentered in your home and I loved having all these tips at the ready to make something truly my own (ON A BUDGET--sheesh! That's such a crucial part that stores out there just do NOT seem to GET!). I have so many great ideas now. I am so thrilled that I just moved into a new place because I have so many ways to make it my own now. It's like having the best elements of pintrest on your shelf but you don't have to be at a loss for how to do it. (That's where I always get stuck). The steps, pictures, personal anecdotes and the connection to the need for books like this to be out there makes the experience reading it engaging and I had my notepad out taking notes on her tips the entire time (and I even knew I was gonna keep the book and could look at it for reference--I just wanted to have this incredibly helpful info at the ready!).Her style is JUST my style also (so that helps me love this book and totally rave about it). Everything is just so cute and I want my future fully-settled-family-with-kids home to look like that. It was so great to see that this could be accessible to me on a budget, and not just a dream!

This book is amazing! I have loved the trend of creating and upcycling/recylcing products. This book is an amazing way to get inspired with pallots. My boyfriend often complained about the idea of taking on a project so instead I picked up this book to look into how I could do things without his help. I have loved this book! It's been great at giving step by step instructions [ pictures included - yay ] for newbies like me. Without much experience at all, this book was incredibly helpful. The book even includes supply list, tools, time it takes and level of difficulty! This made things super easy and efficient. I would have hated to waste time on something that was so far beyond my scope that it asn't possibe. Looking forward to finishing my first project. Up next: Trying to find room to put it!

Great ideas in this book

Great little book! Lot's of ideas for doable projects.

Intéressant pour celui ou celle qui débute dans les projets DIY à partir de palettes.Les processus de réalisation sont explicites accompagnées des photographies adéquates. Un peu basique pour ce qui est des modèles mais ne boudons pas notre plaisir, ça donne de bonnes idées d'autant que l'auteure a écrit une deuxième livre, peut-être la suite du premier?En tout cas ce livre n'est accessible qu'à ceux et celles qui maîtrisent la langue de Shakespeare.Nul doute que les bacheliers ne sont pas au niveau...leurs parents peut-être???J'ai quelques doutes mais sait-on jamais...

I have recently decided to try and build a rudimentary bar out of pallets for my garden and wanted to get a book to give me ideas about how to do that. It arrived within about 18 hours of purchase and looks great! Lots of different ideas of what to build, carefully laid out and in different categories such as storage, garden, decor etc. There is even a chapter to use up odds and sods left over as well as some really simple garden games like tic-tac-toe and a memory game for kids.I love it. Exactly what I wanted.The only small downside (and this is a design issue) is that at the beginning of the instructions for each item, the book designer has sometimes put in a picture which has been cropped for artistic effect. You then need to go back to the beginning of the chapter to see the whole piece. It's not a huge thing, but a little annoying.I would love to see Becky write another book with more ideas. Perhaps not so rustic next time as I am sure she can come up with more contemporary designs which would fit into more homes. But I'm a huge fan now!

GIVES YOU SOME GOOD IDEAS

Great book. Husband will love it. We started getting pallets to split for kindling for our stove but my husband has also used them to build shelving which look fantastic once treated and varnished. Then he built a hedgehog house that is currently being used by the garden hogs. This book will give him plenty of ideas now : )
