NEW OWNERS OF PURE ARE SELLING THEIR CUSTOMERS SHORT BY THEIR SHAMBOLIC DISREGARD FOR STANDARDS
The evoke f4 is a disgraceful piece of equipment . Every time I go on the pure registration site to register my login is called invalid . My password was blocked twice and this after I HAD TO CHANGE MY PASSWORD NINE TIMES. Also the radio will not allow me to register on it so you are then limited to only ten favourites. The new owners of Pure in June 2017 discontinued their Radio Portal flow site on their computer and 25.000 radio stations disappeared and could only be accessed via ios and android unlike Roberts Radio who actually make the effort for their customers. One of my telling complaints to the pure customer service this morning went through but mysteriously was not picked up on. Perhaps it was too close to the bone for comfort. Having purchased three previous pure internet radios from the previous owners of the Company this fall from grace ispainful to me, but fortunately I have a a Roberts with record facility to console me. I would caution anyone seeking a PURE radio with record facility or any kind of pure radio to think again until these new owners put their house in order and open up an internet portal website that computer users can access. A better option would be to switch to a more competent electronics Firm or Roberts Radio. There is much more that I cannot say for obvious reasons but these people seem to think we all wear blinkers.

This model is absolute rubbish!!
Pure should be ashamed of themselves. I bought this product a few years ago but after 3 years the digital display could not be seen. On reporting to Pure they said out of guarantee and not fixable. They offered my 10% off a reconditioned model which I found quite insulting. I have a friend who has the same problem with his. The product has been discontinued because I suspect that this was an ongoing fault. Not good enough at £179 a pop. Pure is now off my preferred brands.

PURE Recommended
This is my third Pure DAB radio from Amazon. The first one is now 10 years old and has travelled extensively with me even surviving 4 months in a part derelict building on an RAF site (don't ask!) and is still completely functional. I also have the alarm clock version (Pure Siesta) with its intelligent light detection - auto dimming the display according to light conditions so it doesn't illuminate the whole room in the dark. Also excellent. This particular model is miles ahead of both. Looks and feels robust, nice display and the best thing is - it sounds great. The unit is deeper and the single speaker has a rich sound with lots of natural bass - which the earlier models couldn't quite achieve. Improves the louder it gets. I use this model to stream internet radio stations I can't get on DAB due to a rural location and it does this with ease. No difference in quality compared with DAB. It is also a great DAB player and can stream your own music once connected to your home network. I genuinely love it. Highly recommended.

It's okay
I bought this to replace a Pure Evoke Flow, which looks so similar that you could mistake one for the other. They are digital radios that have two configurable wake-up alarms - I use one for weekdays and one for weekends. The Evoke Flow was regularly freezing and requiring a reboot to make it work - so far, the F4 has behaved itself. However the Evoke Flow had a useful remote control as an optional extra, whereas this one doesn't have one. Finding channels and programming these radios using the buttons and knobs on the radio requires a lot of hit and miss practice and actually a remote control makes it a bit easier, and I wish they'd make one. I keep going through the menu, then opting to step back and try something slightly different. You connect the radio to your wireless internet and you can then access DAB, FM, internet radio broadcasts and podcasts, and save your favourites. It takes ages to scroll through the many different channels/services to find what you might want to listen to.A pleasant feature of these radios used to be the "Pure Sounds" you could get. By linking to the Pure website you could get a large range of sounds to listen to or to use as your wake up alarm - birdsong, rain, babbling brooks, cicadas in a field at night, all that sort of thing, dozens of sounds. To my great disappointment I now discover that as from July 2016 the Pure Sounds have been discontinued. I wouldn't have bought the radio if I'd known, because there are plenty of digital radios that give you podcasts and internet content, many of them much cheaper and some with pause/resume which this one doesn't have. And although you can connect to other devices via bluetooth, I can't see why you'd want to play your iPhone through this set, because the built in speaker is mono and isn't brilliant quality.

Minor quibble
Yes, I support all the positive things said in other reviews - the quality of the sound, the ease of access to internet radio, the solid make of the radio and the way it sits firmly on my desk - but why is it not possible for either Amazon or Pure to supply the rechargeable battery that goes with it? It was promised in June, and then July, and now September or October - this expensive kit is meant to be portable, and at present it's tied to its main lead to work at all. It suppose the battery will come in time, so this is a relatively minor quibble, but be warned - at present the F4 batteries are not to be had.PS: Recording to a memory stick works well and the format is MP3.
