Is it possible to rip from 4kUHD disk ?

There was a makemkv forum thread update in March 2022. The BDR-XS07UHD should support 4K UHD ripping now.

With the HDMI output, could this puppy be used as a standalone player hooked into your TV?

The drive has only a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port that output speeds of 5 GB/s. The drive is only intended to be used as a external computer optical drive. It is not intended to be used as a TV Blu-Ray player. The firmware doesn’t work on a TV. It only works on a computer. Please note that it will not work on modern multi-touch screen tablets, such as iPad Pro. It will, however, work on a Mac with an Apple chip, or any Mac or PC with an Intel or AMD processor.

Will this drive load and read 8 cm discs?

No! I had to load a 4.75-inch disc in halfway before the drive grabbed it. The Nintendo Wii’s optical drive was made like that, but not this one.

What is the difference between this one and bdr-xd07uhd?

The main difference is the connection between the DVD player ad your PC: USB A 3.0 vs USB C 3.1 Gen1
