Danco Shower Drain, Hair Catcher, Chrome

somewhat gross
my hair no longer goes down the drain to clog my pipes, but instead it collects in a tiny bucket that is difficult to detach from the grill and near impossible to empty without needle-nose tweezers/pliers. removing the hair is also a bit disgusting since the hair also catches everything else that would otherwise wash down the drain. Before buying this, I had read reviews that the basket only needed to be emptied once a month or so. Well, my drain clogged and water was backing up into the shower pan after less than 2 weeks of use and the basket definitely did not seem full. What I wanted to buy was just a 4.25 inch replacement grill with small enough holes that hair would be caught at the top where I could pick it up and throw away. It makes no sense to me why all the 4.25 inch grills have such huge holes that hair goes through without any resistance. I found replacements that are 4.33 inches, but they don't fit. There are tons of oversized options for placing over the hole, but I wanted to have a smooth profile so where I step wouldn't matter. This option is a disgusting temporary option at best.

Wonderful product that really works!
I’m so happy with this product. I was spending so much time trying to keep my hair from going down the drain and so tired of clogs. I tried another drain cover that just sat over my existing cover and it let hair go right through. This product snaps tightly into the space where the old drain cover was and it catches EVERYTHING. The top cover does a great job and the basket catches everything else. It’s super easy to clean too. Highly recommended.

Cheap chrome-looking plastic cup holder . . .
After receiving and removing from packaging, the piece that fit inside metal rim and holds the hair-catching cup is made of chrome-looking plastic. I was displeased as I am not sure of the longevity of this piece since it is plastic and not very heavy duty. I also attempted to remove the cup to see how that worked, I had a some difficulty, and was worried I would break plastic cup holder. I hate it when manufacturers go cheap.

Flimsy feeling
I was on a mission to find something like this for so long and finally found this, and it fit! Yay! It definitely feels a little cheap, and looks it too with the water spots and grime after a couple uses. I'm not sure how long it will hold up, but it has been useful for us, as it's the first one we found that fit. I have attempted to try and remove the filter a few times but had no luck...so not sure how to clean it out...

Takes care of the problem!
I would just like to say that this cover was awesome. The center section pops out and the basket is attached to that. The center section becomes seated bit I just use a screwdriver to gently unseat it for removal. Once you remove the center, you have to unsnap the basket. I agree that this fits in snuggly. You have to put a little force to unsnap it. The basket is plastic but the ring is metal so it will be fine. I take the basket outside and blow it out with the hose. Make sure that the basket snaps back into the ring so it does not fall down the drain. It is secure, just make sure you hear the click. My dog hair problems are gone.

fit well in my existing drain
I wound up only using the refill/cage piece of this and left my existing screwed-in cover. My intent is to unscrew the cover and empty out the cage when the drain gets slow. Simple idea for a hair catcher and I'm happy with it so far. If the main part had a different finish, I may have used it.

Works And Looks Good
Just pops right into the drain opening. My wife and I both have long hair and this has been a life saver. Being a shower drain it is to slick to pull out with your fingers. I have to use something to lift the basket part out.

Catches Hair and does it well.
This trap is great for capturing hair. We're using it in our dog bathing station so it appears to do exactly what it was designed to do!
