COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTION - DEMYSTIFIES FILIPINO CUISNE MAKING IT EASY AND ACCESSIBLE TO ALL
Decades ago, when I was in college, a Filipino classmate shared some of her mother’s chicken adobo with me. This was back in the day of Gen X before internet really was a thing, so the world was less connected. Filipino food was unique and different… and I was sold on the adobo from the moment I tasted it! The rich vinegar flavors were delicious! Now, Filipino restaurants are everywhere and my family and I regularly eat at them. But… I’d really like to save some money and make the food myself. That’s were this book comes in.Wow! This book is packed with all the major hitting dishes and then some. I was relieved to see a chicken adobo recipe… it’s simple and very easy to make. I like that the book begins by describing all the regions of Philippines and the various cuisines unique to each. The external influences from other nationalities is also fascinating. Pantry ingredients are discussed. If you have a well rounded collection of spices, you should be good. The book is broken down into the following sections:1. Appetizers2. Rice and Noodles3. Vegetables4. Chicken5. Meat6. Fish and Seafood7. Snacks and DessertsI love that there is also a chapter entitled “Party Menu Inspiration.” It has some traditional meals served for various special occasions.Overall, I am very pleased with this book. In some cases, there are recipes that I might characterize as “Filipino Soul Food,” and I am glad for it. This book is totally authentic. As a non-Filipino hoping to eventually excel at preparing this marvelous cuisine, I can whole-heartedly recommend this book!

Great Addition to my Cookbook Collection
I'm so glad I ordered this compendium of 100 classic Philippine recipes, including regional Pinoy favorites. The recipes are well-formatted with easy-to-follow steps. This compilation of Asiatic gastronomic treasures is a welcome addition to my trove of cookbooks from around the world. More importantly, this publication serves as a hallmark and relevant contribution towards preserving and documenting Filipino culinary heritage for future generations of foodies to savor. So proud of the Author Chef Roline Casper, the proprietor of her successful Uniquely Filipino Restaurant, which is the preferred caterer of the University of California, Davis. What an exemplary accomplishment!

Wish there were pictures
So far, 5 out of 6 recipes that I’ve tried have been delicious! I can’t wait to try more. They’re super easy to follow and I appreciate that she offers substitutes for each recipe.I read other reviews stating that they wished there were more pictures. Before buying the book I didn’t think it’d be a big deal, but I agree that the book is definitely missing more pictures. It reads more like a colorful novel than an enticing cookbook. Also, for dishes that I’ve never heard of, it’d be nice to have a picture reference instead of having to search for what it looks like.

Very nice cookbook
The media could not be loaded. The book is made of thick pages which seem like they will hold up very well. The print size is very readable. In fact, the entire layout is great. The pictures it has are vibrant and enticing. However, there are few pictures for individual dishes. This cookbook seems like a very good deal to me.

Very good
Easy to follow directions with each recipe. I've found one recipe that I've adapted to better suit my taste, and I make it at least once a month. I won't say which recipe it is as I don't wish to unnecessarily influence anyone.Just buy it and judge for yourself.

No pics of the food
I like the cookbook recipes but it's difficult to know what you're making because there's no pictures of the food. There's a lot of Googling and it seems I should have just found recipes online.

A wonderful addition to my cookbook collection
What I especially like is that the author made the dishes easy to make without falling into the fusion fad. She sticks to the basics, the tried and tested methods for the dish. Stories about the dish’s origin makes it even more inspiring. The ingredients are also reasonable. Substitutions are also indicated if applicable. There are pictures in each chapter but I hope that additional pictures can be added to future publishings. Thank you, Chef Roline!
