Sharp KC850U Air Purifier with Humidifier Combo

Greatly improves air quality. Purchased via Amazon Prime two months ago, new, for 299. Prices fluctuate a lot on these, and other vendors charge even more. In a dry climate, on high fan speed (I have it in a larger bedroom and as such it really only works on high) you have to refill the H2O tank twice a day. It's worth the hassle. Over the years I've tried Winix, Honeywell, Friedrich, Austin Air, Holmes, and others too cheap to mention. This Sharp has worked the best of the bunch. Not a miracle worker, but does what it says it will. Vastly superior to Winix, no contest. Filters - expensive & not available everywhere. Wish the unit came with at least one extra charcoal filter. 3-5 year filter life seems impossible, could happen if your air is already pretty clean. I'll be surprised if I get two years out of this filter set. Looks great, which is a nice bonus. The color-changing air quality indicator is a very nice feature. The clicking of the Plasmacluster is noticeable on lower fan speeds. The unit is designed & built well. Plastic, but doesn't feel cheap. Recessed handles make it easy to move. Really has improved the quality of sleep in the bedroom.

I've used it for a little over a year now, and it's fantastic. I had to move in middle of the pandemic due to the rising cost of rent. But with rising demand in apartments, we didn't have much choice aka carpeted floor. Dad suggested me this, and you can tell it works cuz whenever there's a power outage and i forget to power it back on for a few days, I'll be sneezing haha. Just remember to vacuum or wash the rear filter cover. I forgot to, and dust was caked on - which explained why it felt like it wasn't working properly at one point. The picture is when we were cooking bacon and it smoked lol. It immediately knew there's something's up. (Orange color) So when the light changes color, there's a quiet ticking sound. Honestly it doesn't bother me. In fact, I'd rather it make noise since it let's me know something's in the air. I don't have a great sense of smell, so I can't tell if something's burning. But this does! I know that's not it's intended purpose but it helped me a couple of times. That said, it's soooo quiet. If I have anything going on in the background, I won't hear it. I don't use the humidifier part, but the humidity sensor is helpful!

I was in Japan and this brand is used in every hotel . I love it so much I got me one asap I got back to states . I have used so many high end air filtration system but I like this so far .

So far, lots of good impressions: - Easy to set up - Clear instructions and manual (usually don't use, but did this time) - Brought humidity in a fairly large area (larger than unit should be able to handle) up to a comfortable 50% - Although I can't measure how clean the air is, it seems good. Really no major downsides at this point. Only minor quibbles. Water container for humidifier is a bit tall, so a little awkward to fill. If it were a couple inches shorter and wider that might be ideal (although from a design standpoint I see why they did it). It hasn't been an issue, but it would be nice if you could set a target humidity level. I'm not crazy about he "quilted" design on the front, but don't really care about the looks. All that said, still a 5 star product as there is nothing else like it on the market. NOTE: they have a smaller unit that doesn't have the humidifier, so be careful when ordering if that's important to you (it was to me). If they had the target humidity level (like dehumidifiers have, so it doesn't seem that hard), I might volunteer to sell these door to door (almost).

Purchased this product (KC850U) in 2015 - used about 5 months each year in the hot dry season. Works really well for use in bedroom while sleeping. Now the BAD: my unit still works fine except a Styrofoam Float (bottom of page E-17 in owners manual) is on its last legs. This is an item that needs to be cleaned. I have tried to get a replacement part with no success - so I have a good running machine that needs an inexpensive part and not able to obtain it. Calling SHARP support is terrible, they say they do not sell to consumers and recommend a 3rd party that does not offer the part, and the ones they do have say unavailable. BEWARE customer support for this unit seems to be non-existent. I realize I've had mine a long time, but you would expect them to have parts support for units that are still sold - this unit is still available for purchase here and on the SHARP website.

I have had this product for about a month now, and it works quite well. I live in Salt Lake City, which is basically a desert environment at an altitude. It gets quite dry. I bought a humidistat, hygrometer, or rather, a device that measures the moisture in the air. I have tested this device and in about an hour, it took a 200 sq ft room from 20% humidity to 45%. I have no real way to tell if it cleans the air better than just a normal HEPA filter. However, I do seem to wake up less congested. That could be an artifact of the humidity. The filter it uses to generate the humidity is also cleanable. Most humidifiers will calcify from the hard water, or leave a fine white residue all over your house. This filter I guess can calcify slowly (haven't cleaned it yet). Normal household science would dictate to let it sit in some vinegar and/or ascorbic acid (lemon juice) to clean it up and return it back to normal functioning. Why is this not 5 stars then? Two main reasons: 1.) How is a 350 dollar item NOT programmable? I have a cheaper air filter device from Honeywell that is programmable, and this feature is amazing and works well, saves, energy, etc. A giant let down in my opinion. 2.) At night, this things plasma generator starts to harmonize in its plasma job. Kind of hard to explain, but you can hear the plasma device working when you first turn it on. It sounds like little clicks and sometimes a low level buzz. However, at night, these sounds go from being separate and every few seconds, to all at once and it has woken me up more than a handful of times, forcing me to stop running it at night. Running it at night is probably ok since it generates low levels of ozone, which is how it destroys the mold/spores/etc. Ozone also can destroy tissue at high levels...just a heads up. Other than that, it is a nice little device.

So many air purifiers in the $100 to $300 range are essentially the same thing: fan + HEPA filter + carbon pre-filter. You'd think for that much money there would be more to it. On top of that the designs are typically more industrial than consumer oriented. While Sharp KC-850U at its core is still just HEPA + carbon prefilter, it's leaps and bonds better in all the other regards than the market norms. Pro: * The embossed front panel design looks clean and modern * It has sensor that monitors air quality and humidity and adjust itself accordingly * LED light's brightness can be adjusted and turned off Con: * The humidifying functionality is rather weak, it's not enough to replace my stand alone humidifier in the living room * replacement filters are expensive, according to the manual the HEPA filter (around $100) and carbon filter (around $60) good for 5 years, humidification filter ($35) is good for 2 years. You can wash the carbon filter and humidification filter, but in my experience they can only be washed so many times before they wear out. * These Sharp air purifiers are far from mainstream, makes me worried how long I'll be able to purchase the filters before they are discontinued I'm tempted to -1 star for the lackluster humidification performance, but the unit is so well designed with great attention to detail comparing to everything else I've seen, it deserves a 5.

I think this air purifier/humidifier is worth the money. You can barely hear it running. The air is so much cleaner. I've noticed my husband and one of our house pets has stop sneezing. Very simple easy to use controls (that I love) easy to fill water reservoir. We have two lap dogs and a cat in the house and its so hard to keep the pet hair swept up. The hair was always blowing around but with the humidity being higher its easier to sweep and keep house cleaner. Love it.

The Sharp humidifier has been an exceptional addition to my home. It’s quiet, powerful, and keeps the air perfectly balanced without feeling damp or stuffy. The water tank lasts a long time, the controls are simple, and the air just feels cleaner and more comfortable. It also runs smoothly with no weird smells or noises. Overall, it’s a reliable, high-quality humidifier that works exactly the way it should, and I’m extremely happy with it.

I already have one Sharp KC -8500 but I wanted to have a second one. But just when I ordered it I noticed that there was an other one the KC-8600 which has a larger water capacity. But when I wanted to cancel my first order I was told that my order was already prepared for shipment . Anyhow I like the sharp KC-8500. It is very expensive ( espelely the filters) But you always get what you pay for. I am more than happy with It. Over night I have both running an Auto and you don't hear nothing.

I find this product very good for the money. I placed it in the hall between two bedrooms. It circulates the air quite well and humidifies just enough. Very quite, doesn’t disturb our sleep. The water tank is enough for one days use. Would recommend.

It is extremely quiet, but you do notice the difference in air quality.

Half garbage. I bought it in November 2023 and I'm using it only during the winter as a filter and humidifier. Now there's a noise coming from the electric motor that is used for spinning the water filter inside. Due to that noise I can't sleep in the room when using the humidifier function. For a 700 dollar device that was used intermittently for 2 years, I consider that is a piece of crap. Shame on you Sharp.
