Beautiful , informative paperback.
The whole guide to imagery books are a delight to hold, read and absorb. The quality of paper used is glossy and thick. The printing and colours are bright and good. The art chosen beautiful. The information down loaded is quite interesting and on the whole it is a very heavy good value book to have and enjoy.

Exactly what I needed
This book was exactly what I was looking for and helped me write my dissertation at uni. It is interesting and not too wordy.

Not great for serious art addicts
I was very disappointed about this book, mainly about the format. It is my fault that I didn't check it before buying it but the book has a size A5 format hence the pictures inside are bound to be small as well. It is very difficult to examine them closely and since it is hard to open the book properly, it is impossible to see the pictures which are printed on double pages. The whole book reminds me of the Eye Witness guides, with lines drawn on the pictures. As I am not a fan of the Eye Witness Guides, I am very disappointed in it. I should have checked it out in a real store before I bought it.About the content, I have only had a little time to review it. The book has 5 main chapters, around the themes of Food in the Figurative Context; From Allegory to Still Life; The Places and Rituals of Dining; Food and Drink; The Dining Table and Its Furnishings. The text is informative enough for non-serious addicts and they give a nice background of the subjects, such as about the socio-history of ingredients and their representation in art, which is the best part of this book.Overall, I wouldn't buy it again for myself but it is a great gift for someone who likes food and art equally but who isn't bothered about the formatting of the book.
