Dimensions Chickadees and Lilacs Paint by Numbers for Adults, 11'' W x 14'' L

Dimensions brand paint-by-numbers is, in this user's opinion, the best brand out there. Quality: The final product looks almost exactly like the picture. There may be slight differences because you have to mix colors and sometimes it's not perfect, but overall you end up with a painting that looks very professional. Other brands end up looking like cartoons. The quality of the paint is excellent too. They may require some mixing, but that's typical with paint. The paints are labeled clearly as to what they are and there is always more than enough paint to finish the picture. They also dry very quickly. Difficulty: Not very difficult, but very fun. If you're unfamiliar with paint by numbers, it comes out of the box blank and all the outlined spots have either a letter or a number inside of them. The number reflects a color from the paint selection by itself, and the letters represent a mixed color. The instructions have a key to let you know what letter is made from which mixed numbers. It's an even mix as well, so none of that "2 drops of color 3 and 4 drops of color 5" crap. Just half and half. Some of the parts you have to paint have no number or letter in them and you need to look at the instruction slip to find it. Sometimes it's annoying, but the spots are too small to print a letter or number in them so the alternative was placing the letter or number in another spot with an arrow pointing to it. Most other paint by number brands do the arrow pointing thing, but I'd rather look at the instructions because you end up painting over the arrowed number/letter anyways and then have no idea what's supposed to be there. Time: It takes a little time. I worked on mine for about 2 weeks on and off, but I could easily see someone being able to finish it in a couple days if they were diligent. If you like painting, but you suck like I do at free-hand stuff, go with Dimensions. It's the best brand out there and it's really fun!

Beautiful picture and easy to do. More than enough paint and not dryed out at all, as some have commented. I wasn't crazy about having to mix some of the paints to make the required colors but I got used to it. Would have been nice to have all colors included so I didn't have to mix. Others I have done from other companies included all needed colors.

This is the second paint by number I have done. The first was the hummingbird at the hibiscus, and it came out so great I ordered this one. I am almost done with it and, just the like first, I am amazed that it actually looks like the picture on the front of the box. When you start doing the paint by number, you think "this isn't going to come out looking like the sample on the box", but, it really does. One thing about this paint by number is how good the colors are. They are very rich and deep, and especially the lilacs against the darker background are spectacular. I did notice that when you painted some of the numbers, the numbers still showed through (with the "2's" and the "8's") especially; so I have to go back and go over them again, and maybe even a third time. Make sure you have lots of brushes, including teensy tiny ones. To get the correct result, there are lots of very small spaces and you'll have to very carefully line them with very small brushes. The set only comes with one. I've already got my third paint by number, and the next one is the huge vase of peonies. That's going to take quite awhile. What you need for these is patience and good brushes, and you will be rewarded with a fine looking painting.

I wrote this review the entire time I was working on this painting -- in my head I mean. I got the Chickadees and Lilacs. At first I was really annoyed because it's different than any other paint by numbers I've done -- I didn't read the description carefully enough. It's smaller than I usually do and on cardboard. Then I was even more annoyed because you have to mix the paints to get the right color. Plus many of the numbers aren't on the actual board because the space is too small and they have arrows pointing to the right spot. So, you have to wait till you're at the end to do the ones you're missing. Then there's the dry brushing. Sounds fun but it's not as easy as it sounds I didn't want to ruin it after all that time I took painting it. BUT the board feels quality and is smooth so the paint goes on great. Some of the paint is too thin so getting a sharp edge was hard, but most were good. And with all that detail, the end product was pretty cool looking. My husband keeps saying we're going to frame this one. If you don't like change, skip this one. If you want easy and relaxing, try something else. If you like a challenge, go for it. And if you like going for super detail, this could be fantastic for you.

I decided to do paint by numbers for everyone for Christmas and so far this has been the most difficult but rewarding one. The paint quality is amazing compared to the other kits. They supply a paper with the diagram of what paints go where which was necessary for this piece. The worst part was the blending of the background as I didn’t do that until after I had already painted everything. I think it turned out great and is the only one I’ve done so far that doesn’t scream “paint by number”. Beware the canvas is not a traditional one, more of a board but works great! The painting was daunting at first but ended up great!

I always wanted to paint, and this set, the first I’ve ever done, made me feel like a pro! Family members have tried to steal the finished, framed product because it came out so beautifully! I bought this kit in 2015, but was scared to try it until now. Some of the paints were dry, but I added water and they stirred up fine. I used a palette for mixing the colors, which I thought was a fun part of the process. At 66, my eyes aren’t what they used to be, and it was intricate work. I just took my time. I did have to use other brushes than what came with the kit, but that was fine. It was a fun and satisfying experience!

This is my third paint by numbers by Dimensions. The results took me at least 5 weeks to complete and it turned out very nicely. I found the birds had a bit more tight spaces and I needed to use a finer liner paint brush for it which I had already had for my previous paintings. I had done the 'Garden Bluebirds' a few months back and found that this Chickadee birds was a bit more challenging than the bluebirds. The background blending was challenging as well and it didn't turn out the way I had hoped for but overall the painting still looks lovely. I now have a new painting that I am working on which the background has less blending (Hibiscus Hummingbird) and I am enjoying that one. All the dimensions paintings that I have ordered so far arrived in time with good package and good paint pots and brush. No complaints yet.

Im Lieferumfang befinden sich neben der Leinwand 12 Farben, 1 Pinsel, eine Malanleitung. Die Farben reichen super, selbst wenn man öfters zu viel mischt oder sehr großzügig aufträgt, kann man die Töpfe kaum leer bekommen. Einen Pinsel finde ich defintiv zu wenig. Da im Hintergrund Farbgradienten gemalt werden müssen, braucht man mehrere Pinsel, auch größere oder zumindest ein kleines Schwämmchen zum Verwischen, sonst bekommt man den Effekt einfach nicht hin. Die Qualität der Farben und Leinwand ist wie immer super. Auch für Einsteiger geeignet und nach etwa 50 Arbeitsstunden super anzusehen! :)
