So if i bought this? Would i need to add an insulation layer on top of the pro sound deadening material?

There are two types of noise that cause problems in a vehicle; The first is structure borne noise, the resonance that actually travels through the structure of the car, and can be caused by the road as well as loud speakers, engine, or exhaust. To absorb this noise, use Damplifier, Damplifier Pro, or Spectrum. These products are applied directly to the sheet metal,fiber glass or carbon fiber, where the butyl acts as a medium that any vibrations travel into, mechanically induced or natural. Our 6.5mil annealed aluminum foil layer then constrains the vibrations within the butyl rubber, or in Spectrum’s case the paint acts as one giant, dense constraint layer, preventing the structure from vibrating and letting the vibrations through to turn into sound waves in the air. The Spectrum is as effective - and occasionally a little more effective - than the Damplifier Pro when applied at 3mm thick (3 to 4 coats). Whichever product you choose to go with, you will want to apply it on any sheet metal,fiber glass or carbon fiber you can find, primarily in the doors, floor, and trunk areas. 
 
There is a second type of noise we call airborne noise. This noise is a higher frequency over spill that the Damplifier Pro or Spectrum can’t absorb/block. To help block this, install Luxury Liner Pro (Mass Loaded Vinyl + Closed Cell Foam) on top of the Damplifier pro or Spectrum on the interior of the vehicle. The closed cell foam acts as a decoupler to the sound waves that are blocked by the mass loaded vinyl. These two products in conjunction make one of the most effective and highest quality Thermal-Acoustic barrier available on the market today, so your vehicle won’t only be insulated from sound, it will also be insulated from extreme temperatures as well!

Thank you for your interest in Second Skin. Yes, both our Damplifier and Damplifier Pro are manufactured with the same 6.5 mil annealed foil with ghosted black logo. The foil is the top layer in the picture, the 2mm butyl is bonded to the foil and the brown layer is the wax paper the butyl is attached to. What is the difference between the damplifier pro and the just the regular damplifier?  there seems to be a substantial cost difference - is it worth

Thanks for your interest in American made Damplifier products. Both Damplifier and Damplifier Pro have the same high quality butyl rubber with no asphalt or tar fillers and the same 6.5 mil annealed matte black foil. The only difference in the two is that Damplifier has 1mm thick butyl and the Damplifier Pro has 2mm thick butyl rubber. The Damplifier Pro does perform better but if your build doesn't have a huge stereo system or very large engine upgrade then the Damplifier is just fine. If you are pushing 155+ db or stomping on a 450 HP engine then I would recommend you use Damplifier Pro to kill the structure borne noise.

Question 4

I have a terrible noise from my headers! What do you recommend for engine side of the firewall?

Header noise is an air borne noise. you will need a vibration mat like Damplifier to kill the vibration noise first. Then you will need a barrier layer on the inside cab of the firewall like Luxury Liner Pro Mass Loaded Vinyl or an absorber like Mega Block Hydrophobic Melamine Foam with 1,000 degree heat shield on the engine side of the fire wall. You can also use our Heat Wave Pro Jute material to insulate from heat and sound instead of the Mega Block on the outer firewall. Headers and Turbos are some of the hardest noises to block out, you would be best suited to apply the products above each side of the firewall as described above. Luxury liner Pro is the best barrier layer in the industry but can not be used inside of the engine bay. All of the above products can be found on our Amazon catalog or our actual website.
