Powerful, long-lasting light from a stout, small, versatile device
SUBOOS Gen 2 Ultimate LED Rechargeable Tent Lantern and 5200mAh Power Bank This is a very bright, lightweight, versatile lighting device with impressive battery power and excellent 'build' quality. Its features and characteristics are explored below in some detail. Although this lantern was designed to light a tent (even a large one) very comfortably and is built to be water resistant enough to endure a rainstorm, it also can serve as an inexpensive and bright emergency substitute for house interior lighting during a multi-hour power outage. Unlike barrel-shaped lanterns built to be carried around, this was designed to be set or hung in place (but it can easily be carried around to provide light across large areas indoors or outside). Opening it unleashes surprising brightness. It uses 12 white and 3 red LEDs for 280 lumens on high (white light) and 100 lumens on medium (white light). This lantern apparently is Suboos 'Gen 2' version, so named because it uses a newer LED technology called 'Surface Mounted Devices' ('SMD') (LEDs), which allows it to produce more light from a smaller cluster of LEDs but with reduced battery consumption. Shipped with two 2,600 mAh batteries, the lantern's data sheet says that this power bank (5,200 mAh in total) will provide light on high for 7 hours and for 18 hours on medium. In red 'night vision' mode, the batteries reportedly power it for 100 hours or more. Details, capabilities, and features: To double-check the Suboos data sheet, I used a camera's internal light meter to do a rough side-by-side trial of this lantern against the Suboos Ultimate Lantern, which is rated at 180 lumens on its high setting. The light meter indicated this unit projected about 1.5 times more light on a wall when both devices were stationed at the same distance (about 48") from the wall. (And that's consistent with the data sheets for the two products, as 280 lumens at this device's high setting is ~55% more than 180 lumens for the other lantern on high.) After dark, wandering around the house carrying this lantern showed that it could adequately and comfortably illuminate even large rooms. The light cover is frosted, and so disseminates an even, non-glaring light. Suboos products, in our experience, reflect careful attention to design functionality and to quality construction, with stout casing materials and attention to weather protection. The manufacturer data sheet says this lantern meets water resistance IPX5 standards -- the industry standard for resisting a sustained low-pressure water jet spray, or, in other words, protected against that as well as dripping water, water splashes from any direction, and heavy rain). The dual rechargeable 18650 button-top batteries (2,600 mAh each) are delivered with a proper 'storage' charge (about 75% to 80% of full charge). Because these are wired into the lantern in parallel (not in series), the lantern can operate with only one battery installed (or in use) -- but having them in parallel makes the additional mAh available (for the full 5,200 mAh). With proper care, Lithium-ion 18650s can be recharged many, many times. These dual batteries also enable the lantern to serve as an emergency USB-device charging center. For that, the lantern includes a standard USB output port, located inside the weather-protected battery compartment. For devices that use a USB 'standard' to USB 'micro' cable for charging, the same cable that is used to charge the lantern (included with the lantern) can be used to charge their device. For those whose devices require other cables that terminate in a standard USB output port connector, any such cable can link to the lantern's charging port. (The lantern's batteries hold power sufficient to charge most smartphones with 2,000 - 3,000 mAh batteries fully at least once -- check your phone's battery mAh capacity to see how many full and partial charges the lantern could provide for it.) The multi-function switch cycles from 'off' through high and medium brightness, then to red mode, and then 'off', and it also serves as an LED-illuminated charging indicator, flashing while charging and turning solid red when the device is fully charged. When the lantern is being used as a power source to deliver USB power to an external device, the button glows blue. Weighing just under 9 ounces (with batteries installed), this unit is basically circular and relatively thin -- about 4.25" in diameter and about 2" in depth. The hanging ring is made of substantial metal, and 5 different 'click stops' for the ring allow the lantern to be angled to point straight down, or straight out to either side, or at a 45-degree angle to either side. Conclusion: Our household has included Suboos lighting devices for several years because of the consistent high quality of their products. This lantern appears to maintain that tradition. We purchased four of them -- two as donations for a local emergency shelter center (to replace antiquated massive and relatively dim battery-draining lanterns they had) and two for our own house, as emergency interior area backup lights for our regular mains-power interruptions (which occur in our area at least 3 or 4 times each year). The next time our house goes dark (and we know it will), we look forward to clicking these on immediately, confident that as a Suboos product they will work reliably, and that we will have good room lighting for many hours.

Surprisingly well-designed product, great value.
For car-camping people, this light will be hard to beat. Several thoughtful design features, the best being that it takes beefy 18650 rechargeable batteries. The battery compartment holds two, but the lamp can run on one. There are several operational modes, including night-time red. Even comes with an "S" clip hook for hanging. I like the idea that when or if the batteries wear out, they are EASILY REPLACEABLE! - - unlike so many cheap battery-powered products today. This light can be used as a power pack to charge other devices. Seems reasonably well made without weighing a ton. Probably heavier than a serious backpacker would want, but that's not a concern for me.

Versatile Rechargeable Light for Camping and Emergencies
This SUBOOS rechargeable tent light is the kind of item that can be useful for more than just camping. While it's designed as a hanging LED canopy or tent light, I also like the idea of having something like this available around the house for power outages or anywhere you need portable lighting without having to rely on an outlet. The hanging design is especially practical. Being able to position a light overhead can illuminate an area much better than a flashlight that's only pointing in one direction. For a tent, canopy, RV setup, patio area, or other outdoor space, that style makes a lot of sense. The product is also rated at up to 500 lumens, giving it the ability to provide substantially more light than a small personal flashlight. Another feature I appreciate is that it's rechargeable. For something intended for camping or emergency use, I prefer rechargeable lighting because you don't necessarily have to keep a supply of disposable batteries specifically for it. You can charge it ahead of time and have it ready when needed. The compact lantern-style design also makes it relatively easy to keep with camping supplies or emergency essentials without taking up much room. I think this is particularly useful as a multipurpose light rather than something that only comes out for camping trips. Between outdoor use, RVing, backyard activities, and keeping it available during a power outage, there are plenty of situations where a portable hanging light can come in handy. It's a practical piece of gear to have available when you need hands-free lighting.

Nearly perfect for hanging in tents, screen houses, and shelters
Likes: + Directs all of its light in a wide downward flood rather than out to the sides + Uses standard 18650 button-top batteries + Hangs easily with the included clip, and it can be angled 45 degrees + Lightweight even with two batteries + Compact + Low price Dislikes: - Powers on to the brightest setting - On/off button could be easier to find by feel - Only takes button-top 18650 cells, not flat-tops We just got back from a camping trip where we used one of these lights hung from the top of our screen house over a picnic table and another one in our tent. We mostly used it at the medium setting in the screen house, which was bright enough to play cards or read or prepare food. The lowest setting was great for the tent. This is the best small hanging light we've used and it's nearly perfect for camping. Our one complaint is that the light always powers on to the brightest setting, which is the opposite of what you want for a tent light. For nighttime use in a tent with people potentially sleeping, it should start at the lowest setting. It's also annoying for the user to be temporarily blinded when powering it on in the middle of the night. Another downside worth mentioning is the power button. It's small and located in a spot that takes some fumbling in the dark to find. I think if the button was located on the back, it would be easier to find by feel.

An awesome little lamp that packs a lot of punch
I already have a Suboos collapsible lantern (sadly, discontinued). It continues to serve me well. When I spotted the listing for this camping lantern, I knew I had to get one, because Suboos makes top-quality lighting products. I ordered one, and am quite pleased. I use it in our RV, and at home on the patio. The lantern provides plenty of light, and has 3 brightness modes. At its brightest, it gives plenty of light for reading. My only gripe, which is not enough to lose any stars: I wish it had the ability to change color temperature. If it had a 2600K setting it would be great for late night relaxing. Maybe something for the Gen 3? In any case, I am very happy with the lantern, and I know it will last a long time.

Very useful, bright, multi-function light in a small package!
This light worked perfectly on our last camping trip and is well worth the $19.97 I spent on it. If it continues to work well, I'll never need to buy another tent light. I have not compared it with other similar tent lights, but my guess is that, at the time of this writing, this is one of the best ones on the market (this is the Gen. 2 version of the SUBOOS light). Size ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The light takes up very little room (which is great for camping). I just packed it in with the tent. The Light ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The light itself worked flawlessly. I had it on the dim (medium) setting mostly, but the bright setting is quite bright and filled our 15x10' tent really well. The red setting was nice to use as we were getting ready for bed, so we weren't being exposed to blue light right before getting some shut-eye. Hanger & Hook ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Clip Hook - The included clip hook is a nice touch; without it, I would've had to buy my own. - Hanger - Rotating the hanger is awesome, as it stops at 0°, 45°, 90°, -45°, and -90°. In our large tent, I hung it in the middle and turned it 90° to my side to not bother my sleeping kiddos. Charging ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Charging the Light - I charged the batteries with the included cable (plugged into the mini USB port on the side of the light housing) the night before and knew it was finished when the blue light (on the on button) stopped flashing. - Charging Phone - I even used it to charge my iPhone some (with my iPhone charging cable), and it worked well. I just wish I didn't have to open the battery compartment to access the USB port. What I'd Change ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The only useful addition I can think of would be a remote switch. In our large tent, the light hangs at about 6'8", so my wife cannot reach the button to turn the light on/off. Of course, adding a remote would increase the cost, so... Conclusion ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I recommend this light ( SUBOOS Gen 2 ULTIMATE Rechargeable Camping Tent Lantern - The Most Professional LED Tent Light Available -Super Bright 280 Lumens - 3 Light Mode - Outdoor Durable - Light Angle Adjustable - Flexible Batteries Option - Water Resistant - Cell Phone Recharge - 2 Rechargeable 18650 Batteries, 1 Hanging Clip Included ) for camping or any other use in a space you don't have light but do have something from which to hang it. Hopefully, I'll never need to purchase another tent light!

Fantastic light for ice fishing
I have tried several different lights for ice fishing, and this is a keeper! I do a lot of ice fishing at night, and fish out of a few different shacks. This light provides ample coverage for both my one man filp-over and a two-man 6X6 hub on the low setting. On high, it provides good coverage for a three-man 8X8 hub. I never use the red light, but it is nice to have the option. I love that it has replaceable 18650 batteries, and on board charging (no need to carry extra disposable batteries, or another charger when traveling). You can power the light via the charging port, and the charging the device is very intuitive (unlike many other lights). I get very good run time on low even in extreme cold conditions. On high I obviously get less run time, but I carry a 20000mAh power bank with a USB extension cable, and have never been concerned that I was going to run out of power even on multiple day trips. With some Velcro strips, it is easy to mount the light on any type of tent pole, and the angle adjustment works very well. Great power options, long run time, two brightness settings, good throw & color, lightweight, small footprint, easy to mount, simple to operate, and simple to charge……….very satisfied with this purchase, and one immediately buy again if I ever lose the light down the hole. I have added some pic of the light in my one-man flip-over (on the low setting).

GREAT LITTLE LAMP
EDIT ON 3-6-24: I contacted the seller about the cord problem (mentioned in the review below). Their response was exceptional and came the day after I posted my review. A few days after this I received a package with the correct USB to USB C cord in it. The company rep said they will fix the cord problem in other packages that might have the non-fitting cords. Kudos to a good and responsive seller and I'm therefore adjusting my review and changing my review to 5 stars because it's a great little lamp. I'm using it to light up my closet, and it's fantastic for that purpose. This lantern came with a little USB cord. The end that should go into the lantern absolutely WILL NOT FIT into the lantern. I happened to have another cord (USB to USB C cord) that I had on hand to charge a headlamp I bought. The USB C end fit perfectly into the latter slot. I don't really know what the small end of this cord actually is, but it's not USB C. So if you would be depending on this lantern's supplied cord to charge it, don't buy this lantern. You would either need to buy the right cord or perhaps use one that you already have as I did. Otherwise, I can say it's small, lightweight, and puts out a bright light. I can't yet evaluate the length of time it will stay charged. I happen to be using it to illuminate a closet so I won't be leaving it on for long periods of time and with that kind of use, I don't expect it to run down quickly. If it does seem to run out too quickly with my limited usage in the closet, I'll update this review.

Great light
Super great value camping light. Decently bright even at the low setting. Lasts long on the included battery (replaceable) and easily charged with a USB charger. I use mine for camping and as a work light in the garage.
