A good piece of furniture
I don't like to do immediate reviews of items that are supposed to have any measure of lasting power, so to put that into perspective, I have owned this desk for 10 weeks. I chose it primarily because 1) it exactly fit the dimensions of a small nook I wanted to make into my temporary (1-2 years) workspace and 2) it's oak, which blends in with the rest of the decor in the room.I like this desk. It's sturdy and has a really solid feel to it. It has "heft." The top surface feels substantial, is smooth and enjoyable to work upon. The veneer has a nice grain to it and the whole thing just generally looks attractive. One corner (fortunately for me, a corner that is close against a wall) came slightly damaged in transit. Because it's mostly not noticable, we let it go, but if it had been on the other side, I'd have been bummed about having to return/exchange such a bulky item! (I've read a few reviews that stated similar things about shipping damage, so take that into consideration.) I didn't take a star off for that because I don't see it as the manufacturer's issue.I can't personally comment on the ease or difficulty of assembly beyond saying that my husband, who is pretty handy and will find a way to make something work one way or another, didn't seem to groan or curse more than usual when putting it together. There IS the issue of one very slightly crooked drawer but I'm not 100% sure that doesn't have something to do with the initial assembly on our part and being too lazy to care about fooling with it any more. You have to know you're looking for it to really even see it, so whatever.Overall, I'm satisfied with this desk because it served my purposes and I don't feel like I got a cheap-o solution to my needs. When the time comes to move my work space into a vacant bedroom instead of this nook, I probably won't take the desk with me, but it's nice enough that I probably WILL try to find another place for it in the house.

Great desk!
This is a REALLY nice desk for the money! I wanted an Arts & Crafts style desk because I like the style and simplicity. The problem I ran into over and over is that the distance between the floor and the desk was too low. I don't understand why we are still designing furniture for people who are no taller than 5'5". This desk is perfect because I can actually fit my legs under it even with them crossed. I'm a 6 foot tall guy and when I'm working I'm constantly shifting positions. This desk has plenty of room for that. I did not install the center drawer/keyboard tray or whatever it is because I wanted the space. The piece looks perfectly fine without it; you would never know that the drawer is supposed to be there. This piece is mostly real wood and some of it solid. The desk top is a veneer over some kind of pressed stuff, but you would never know it to look at it or feel it. It provides plenty of room and it was super simple to assemble. If you need a simple but very nice looking desk for not a lot of money, go for this one!**UPDATE: After almost 2 years of use and it still looks like new! I work at home 4 days a week, so I'm sitting at this desk for 8-9 hours a day. It still looks new! No wear at all. I think it's the best desk I've ever owned.

5 Stars for overall quality / price, 3 Stars for manufacturing quality
Quick summary: A amazingly nice desk for the money if you’re willing to deal with a few headaches. NOT for first time furniture assemblers.Desk was shipped via UPS not Amazon delivery which can be frustrating at times. Even so, the outside of the box had numerous tears most likely due to the weight. Inside, the desk was very well packed and I found zero shipping damage.Nearly all of the assembly hardware had extra pieces which was nice. The wood finish was surprisingly high quality. With the exception of a couple of small manufacturing goofs it was easy to assemble if you’ve assembled furniture before.Assembly issues: Normally the pictures in the assembly instructions stay oriented in the same direction but in step 3 they rotated the point of view 180 degrees for no good reason which might account for some reports of backward drawer hardware. I think it was because of the change in step 3. Next problem, a dowel hole was off about 1/8 of an inch on part of the base assembly which, had I not corrected, would have misaligned the holes for the top. Lastly, the outside drawer guides for both large drawers were too low by about 3/8 of an inch. Couldn’t see that until the drawers were put in at the end so I had to lower the guides to fix the problem while under the desk. But, in the end, for the money I am really happy. I was not expecting the desk to have that nice of wood - both the solid parts and the veneer are really good. I could have easily spent another $200 to $300 for something similar.

Quality Desk & Fast Shipping
I ordered this desk and got it 4 days later. The desk is well packaged. I noticed amazon shipped the desk from Toronto. I think that is the reason is not beaten up badly as someone had.The build of desk is solid but the colour is more bright orange than the desk in the picture. Overall, I like the colour.

Damaged on delivery and broke while screwing top on.
The front of the table top was damaged in two places when it arrived and because the top cannot be reversed the damage shows on the front edge of the desk top. Also, while screwing the top on the block broke off. This is totally unacceptable for $700.
