Drop Spindle Top Whorl Yarn Spin Hand Carved Wooden Tool for Beginners

This spindle is light weight and perfect size. It is a beautiful wood and great for beginners like myself.

Buy this first before you buy an actual spinning wheel. It’s not worth it to get the more expensive ones when this one does the job just fine- if you need it smoother some fine sandpaper will solve any rough spots. I started backwards with a spinning wheel and somehow find this to be faster while allowing for a consistent spin. Cons: For starters doesn’t include instructions, but can easily be found online with tutorial videos. Could be sanded smooth- has a tendency to grab loose fibers sanding smooth recommended. Could use multiple notches to park the working bit of string.

This is my first drop spindle so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I was easily able to take my plotulopi and spin it. Haven't tried with roving yet because I realize it'll be more difficult, but I had to add some twist and maybe even ply my plotulopi because I'm going to be tablet weaving with it. I'm essentially creating a tight lettlopi with my plotulopi which feels kinda wrong but the marsh was such a pretty color I couldn't pass it up. Anyways I digress. This drop spindle was very easy to pick up and start spinning. Seems to have a good weight but I am sliiightly worried it's too heavy for roving but again I haven't tried and I'm new to this. Overall if you're curious about spinning and don't want to spend a lot of money, I highly recommend this little beauty. It's so much fun and so easy. The only complaint I have is that the loop that holds the thread during spinning was too tight and actually broke my spun thread when I tried to take it off. Easy fix though, I just grabbed a pliers and turned the end of the metal loop out a bit and haven't had a single problem since. I imagine I'll be using this a lot. I kind of don't even want a wheel now because this is so much fun

Very sturdy and works well. Not to heavy. It does take a little bit of getting use to in order to spin yarn. Great for a beginner spindle.

It is as advertised. It is a good top whorl spindle for beginner spinners. Spins wool or wool blends well. The hook does tend to unscrew, so gluing it may be necessary.

The shaft was snapped in two pieces, but I think that’s Amazon’s fault for putting in an envelope instead of a box.

Ordered this spindle and when it arrived, the bottom 2 inches were broke off. Ordered a replacement and the second one, the hook on top was bent to the side. Instead of replacing it again, I was able to have my husband bend it back straight. Once fixed, the spindle seems to work pretty well.

Works perfectly, right weight for spinning.

The drop spindle itself seems to be of good quality but the item arrived with the screw-hook snapped. I can't get the piece out, so can't repair it. I will have to return it.
