Sweet story for gentle weaning
I’ve been exclusively breastfeeding for two years and got this book for gentle weaning. I wanted to start with night time and then move to day weaning. This book is so special. I read it during our final nursing session of the day for a week with my toddler. The book features a conversation between a toddler and the mama about weaning and it shares all of the concerns that a little one may be going through. It empathetically connects to both mama and baby’s emotions about the weaning process. My little one was successfully weaned during the night without any major problem. I’d like to thank it was thanks to this book. For all mamas who want to assure your little one that even when “ milk goes, your love will grow,” get this amazing book! Thank you to the author and artist for this work!

I wish I had this book years ago when I was weaning my most sensitive child!
Weaning can be a physical and emotional journey for a mother and child. When I read this book, I was impressed with how its beautiful illustrations complimented its dialogue perfectly. This would be a helpful read for a mother and her child but it would also be helpful for just a mother to read. Its simple and important message could provide a sense of peace to a mother who needs to wean a child for reasons beyond her control as well as a mother whose child abruptly weans his/herself for reasons unknown. It is certainly the perfect read for a mother and child to read together to accompany the weaning process. Mrs. Elder demonstrates her sensitivity, insight and wisdom through the words she chooses to explain this journey.

Sweet book for a weaning toddler
I didn't love the way the book was written - it was a little abstract for my 18 month old - but the pictures are very cute and I could easily adapt to more descriptive and direct language. It might be better for a 2 year old. Nonetheless, it was helpful to read a few times when we dropped our final 2 nursings and I think it did really help my little one understand the transition. He did request it / select it on his own, not a favorite, but it served it's purpose.

Wonderful not only for child but for the mama
I am a lactation consultant and have breastfed my own child well into toddlerhood. I wish this book was around when I was weaning because I often lacked the words to explain it to my daughter. I recommend this book to clients as a wonderful tool to help them with the weaning process. Weaning can be a difficult time for a child and also for the mama, even if she wants to wean. It brings up so many emotions as this is the end of a journey both mother and child have been on since birth. I love the rhyme which always appeals to children and how it explains to the child that this does not mean the love of their mama will go away despite the milk going away. The tips for the mama at the end are especially helpful since I feel like weaning isn't discussed much in our society. Great tool to help a family who is weaning their child!

Helpful book
I like this book because it asks questions from the child’s perspective as well as the mothers. It’s like a conversation they are having about nursing ending and what that will be like and I found it helpful for my daughter and myself. My daughter likes the page when the baby is looking into the mothers eyes. She also likes the page where the toddler asks about being scared and needing milk. I think it’s a great book to have for starting the weaning conversation with your child. I bought this one with the book “Loving Comfort” and found that they work well together. My toddler prefers the other book probably because of the pictures being more relatable for a child.

Reassuring to a weaning child
I wish I had had this book when I was weaning my three sons. It presents weaning in a very matter of fact way, which can be helpful when weaning a toddler, while at the same time, shows the utmost respect for the precious nursing bond between mother and child. The author, Jessica Elder, does a wonderful job presenting the feelings and emotions that may arise while a mother and child are undergoing such a significant change in their relationship. She gracefully emphasizes that although the ways in which we express our love may change, the love itself never goes away. How reassuring to a weaning child. This lovely book would make a wonderful baby gift or keepsake.

Useful and nice but not great
Purchased to read with my toddler who I am in the process of weaning. I purchased this book and another for this purpose and this is not the favorite. The story doesn’t flow well as it’s written, it goes back and forth between the mother and child’s voice with only context to help determine who’s speaking. I add “baby says” or “mama says” when reading aloud. Also the pictures aren’t as polished as you see in most kids books but really it’s the colors. They’re on the dull/ gray side and my son isn’t excited to read it. I really like the sentiment and how this gives great respect to the child’s perspective on the topic but think this book could use a good rewrite to make it less clunky to read aloud and fresh pictures with bright colors.

I must read for all parents and toddlers about to wean
I really can’t say enough good things about this book. I purchased it several months before we started weaning and made a habit to read it to my daughter every night. As a first time Mom, ending our nursing journey after two years, and three months was bittersweet. This book helped create sweet conversations to help my daughter adjust to the idea that “milk will go but Mommy will stay.” I will definitely be reading this to my babies on the way.

Relatable storyline for my toddler
Really loved this book. My little one is 1 month shy of 3 years. I have been strongly trying to wean since last 2 months. All feeds have been weaned except the nap and sleep time. Tried every trick under the sun. She wouldn't let my husband or her grandparents to put her to sleep. Only wanted to feed would not have it any other way. No matter how hard I tried she would not budge. I was at my wits end without knowing a proper method to wean. Finally met with an LC on tips and she said the only way to wean now is to communicate and be empathetic as she is almost 3 years old. I later came across this book suggestion in a Facebook group for gentle weaning and it has helped immensely. She was a boob monster and after showing this book she completely related to the kid. She started understanding the concept and is now feeding < 30 seconds and if I distract her she easily gets disctracted.. OFcourse compensating feeding with lots and lots of cuddles kisses stories and lullabys. But it is working. After she starts yawning she just hugs me tightly and is sleeping (just like in the book). For first 3-4 days she showed some repulsion and she told these boobs are mine and there was some crying. But all of a sudden as if magic she started hugging me and sleeping (we co-sleep). Thank you.

Excellent
Great book. Made me cry the first few times we read it. I used it to help teach my daughter that we would be stopping breast feeding. We read the book every day for about two weeks and talked about it. This book made the transition away from breast feeding much easier.
