Same story as the last ROKR kit — and that’s a good thing. This wooden car puzzle is fun to build, the pieces fit together like they were laser‑whispered into existence, and you don’t need glue, clamps, prayers, or patience you don’t have. Everything snaps together cleanly, and when you finish, you get a display piece that looks like you spent way more time and skill on it than you actually did. Another solid, satisfying build.

My husband loves these models. They do take time and precision and an exacto knife. Any curved pieces must be handled with extreme care or they can break.

So far I like it, but I havent had the chance to start building it

It arrived in good condition, like all my kits from ROKR/Robotime. What can I say, this kit has been my most challenging one yet but fun to put together. Lots of small and delicate pieces and some of the pieces were very tight to assemble. Had to be very careful while concentrating on the tight ones and not forget about the fragile ones. A few fit loose so had to add a dab of glue to keep in place. I like the etching and the cutting was excellent, as always. And...I didn't break any of the pieces :-)

I enjoyed building this 3-D wooden model of a European 19th century steam locomotive. I wish someone made one like this of an American locomotive, but this makes a very nice display. It's not a toy, not for little kids. I had a few problems building, even though I am an experienced model builder and model railroader. This is not a standard model railroading scale model. It is 1:80 scale, in between HO scale & O scale. The miniature plywood parts are sturdy and usually easy to remove from the precision laser cut sheets. A few needed to be cut out from the sheets, using a craft knife. Most of the parts need some sanding along the edges and some of the tabs need sanding with the supplied fine grit sandpaper, which wasn't quite enough. Most parts snap in place and hold together well, but I needed to glue some in place with CA (super glue) type glue. I only broke one minor part of the over 300 parts, but there are a lot of extra parts, especially the ones that are easy to break or loose. The instructions are good, easy to follow pictures and most of the parts are laser imprinted with the part numbers, except for the smallest ones. You have to carefully follow the instruction sequences, because it's easy to miss a step if you aren't careful. This is my 3rd wooden 3-D model. I enjoyed building this model and will definitely build more.

I have a number of ROKR 3D wooden puzzles and they are fun and challenging to complete. Be aware that Prime Steam Express is much smaller than most of the ROKR products. See the attach photo for a comparison between ROKR's full size LK701 locomotive on the right and this model on the left. If this is your first 3D model I would wait until you have tried one of the larger models. Although this is a great model when complete, IMHO it is not for a first time builder. Contains many small parts that WILL break even when careful. Fortunately many of these are duplicated, but it's still a good idea to have some tacky glue available in case you need it. Do I recommend it for an experience builder? YES Took be about 4 hours to complete taking my time and ensuring I was following the instructions correctly. It makes a very nice display piece, especially if you are into trains.

Purchased this as a gift and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves trains/puzzles. The most impressive part of this product is how well it is made, especially for the price. Take special care when removing the pieces from the sheets, they are fragile but not ridiculously so (AND BE SURE NOT TO TAKE A PIECE OUT UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO USE IT!) With patience and care, you will be able to create a beautifully designed model with incredible detail. It really was a delight to put together.

This is my second wooden construction. I was doing the Metal Earth kits but my eyes would get so tired of trying to focus on the miniature parts, and even with my magnifying glass they can be quite tedious. Plus, I was running out of models that interested me. Looking forward to more wood kits, as they have larger parts and the first kit was amazingly sturdy. This kit I found to have many parts that were breaking and so I spent a lot of time glueing what was left of the splintered parts. Sometimes they would splinter when I would remove them from the boards and many times it was while I was trying to insert them into the holes while putting them together. I think it is a combination of the parts being smaller than my first project and the wood seemed more brittle.

This is a great kit and you get a lot for the price. I am a VERY experienced plastic modeller but still found this kit to be a challenge. I made it with my 5yo Train-mad son and it was WAY out of his league; he loves the finished result though. The biggest issue was just how fragile some of the parts were but even here the kit most often provides replacement parts. You are trying to manipulate and occasionally force small, thin laser-cut parts into tight slots and unless you do it just right they can snap. The kit is a marvel of design - it is like putting together a very well engineered 3D puzzle.

Easy to put together

Really enjoyed putting this together. The instructions were flawless. Detailed images were clear and labeled properly. Broke one or two of the smaller and fragile pieces but they had spares. As usual, just need to be careful when putting these together. This is my second time putting this type of puzzle together. This was fairly easy and the complexity was mild.

some of the tabs that push into holes to join 2 parts are very tight fits. I used a hobby knife to trim the tabs then used tiny bit of glue. Means you may have to let it sit so the glue dries.

Definitely, worth the price, it is going to cost you for a couple of hours or even days. We got the truck, difficulty five stars; if you are looking for an adult puzzle to build during the quarantine, this must be a good option. My boyfriend loved it when he received it; the sense of accomplishment can't be hidden.
