I had the same question and e-mailed customer service. This is their encouraging answer! Rarely can you get a reasonably priced item without flame retardants, BPA, PVC and phthalates! The board is still MDF, but maybe it can be sealed to reduce off-gassing or left out of your home for a few days. MDF is always a concern for VOC and formaldehyde emiting. How far in do the clamps go? (measurement from edge of table until where it clamps)

Hello, The clamps on the chair extend 2.75-4" underneath the table.

What is the distance from where the clamp tightens underneath the table to the edge of the table? Thanks!

From the center of the clamp, you have a distance of 3.5 inches to the outside edge of the table. If you are concerned about whether you have enough overhang on the table, you need to add another full inch to accommodate the total length of the clamp that fits under the counter...you need 4.5 -5.0 of clearance under the counter. This counter seat/chair is very nice, very sturdy and very durable. Hope this helps. Edward

Has anyone tried machine washing the cover?

Hello, As per the care instructions for the Fast fabric seat cover, the chair is to only be hand-washed in cold water with either a sponge or garment brush.
