So far so good, and mine came with WD Red drives!!
So far so good! Only been up and running for two days so i'll make sure to update if something changes. I have mine set up as RAID 5. Backing up mostly photos, and Time Machine. Photos range from 20-75MB each. Editing the photos in Photoshop and Lightroom over USB 3.0 is fast, and changes are pretty much instantaneous.Buffalo does not make there own drives so what I have been told is that this could come with drives from any of the big manufactures. Mine happened to come with WD Red drives so I'm happy about that. Fan is not to loud and the Quadstation runs well so far

A GREAT LOCAL BACKUP SOLUTION
I purchased the 16TB version. I Set it up as RAID 10 for local backups. It's fast and paired with a decent backup software and backup routine, it allows me to set and forget. Not cheap, but totally worth it for that extra piece of mind.Don't forget to have an online backup solution also, if you can.

16Tb is measly 10.9Tb of usable RAID5 space. Really????
I am reserving rating this product depending on reply I get from Buffalo folks. So my 16TB unit set to RAID5 is supposed to use 1 disk (4TB) for partiy for fault tolerance. However, After setting up this array on Windows 10 to RAID5, total usable space reported by Windows is only measly 10.9 TB. That's not what I expected. I expected to get around 12TB. Can someone tell me what's going on here? It seems that somewhere the space wasted. is it by Windows or by Buffalo?

Drive has trouble when computer sleeps.
I am ambivalent on this product. I bought the Quad and the Duo. I have the quad on TimeMachine and my Photos library on the Duo. When the computer goes to sleep the drive is improperly ejected and will not remount unless I turn the drive off and turn it back on. The duo does this but remounts when the computer wakes. If Photos is running you will have to close the propgram and open it again because it loses where the library is located. My Western Digital drive never did this. I will try a different brand next time.Update: I changed my energy settings to where I never put the computer to sleep but put the drives to sleep when possible. No problems now.
