No hate speech, thanks
Have to negatively review this on principle. Experience ruined by understanding the philosophy of these developers. This game contains hidden hate speech, and the developers refuse to remove it on the grounds of "freedom of speech"... Yuck. It's 2021, and basic decency comes first in getting a good review.

Ion fury is a fantastic game on the 3D realms build engine. Duke nukem on steroids
Having played this game on the pc and loving Duke nukem 3D. This game is fantastic. Lots of levels and enemies to keep you guessing, also lots of secret areas and the weapons are sick!!! Just ordered this on the Nintendo switch. Love this game. ☺. I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of Duke nukem and even new fans will find this game fun.

They don't make them like this anymore..apart from this
One of the best FPS' alongside Doom back in the day was Duke Nukem Total Meltdown/3D. Voidpoint in partnership with DN3D creators 3D Realms have created a nostalgic love letter to Duke Nukem, using it's original but updated and pushed to the limit Build engine. It has that same offensive and hilarious humour (much needed in a weak day and age of censorship where it's fashionable for many to pretend everything offends them) yet somehow as much as this game feels like the Duke Nukem classic for all the right reasons, it also feels really separate thanks to it's neo noir theme and new mechanics. It's a FPS' starring a take no s*** cop called Shelly 'Bombshell' Harrison, also known as iron maiden or ion fury (after a legal dispute). Futuristic DC is ravaged by a small army of cybernetically enhanced serial killers and mutants, led by a psychopathic scientist, Heskel. Shelly's police force GDF are also attacked and she wants revenge. Her mission is to hunt him down and eliminate all the criminals she comes across, using an array of meaty weapons and some classic "where am I supposed to go next" brain usage.Visuals: 09/10The visuals of course aren't RDR2 as using the Build engine and with a distinct art style, but this art style is brilliant and the game somehow still manages to be pleasing on the eyes despite it's more retro look. The only reason I give it a 9 is I would've liked to have seen greater variety of the cybernetically enhanced bad guys (the gun toting enemies).Sound effects: 10/10Easy 10, the weapons all sound meatier and better than most modern AAA games, and the music is brilliant, perfectly capturing the gritty neo noire feel of the game. The voice acting though not a huge part is also nicely done with the talented Valerie Michelle Arem, who gives a tonne of attitude and personality to the protagonist Shelly. Coupled with the many one liners and humourous quotes and zero virtue signalling, this is how a strong female character is made. Not that most writers in the West these days are able to understand this.Gameplay 10/10Can't really think of anything to fault with the gameplay, maybe other than wanting a greater variety of enemies. The gameplay itself is smooth, quick and fun. The maps are brilliantly designed and diverse, with many weapons and some equipment/perks to find. There's lots of good puzzle sections (the puzzles being learning how to proceed through the area). Like DN3D here's quite a lot of secrets on each stage to find as well, which are well hidden. There's even some boss/climatic fights. The game even has a bunch of 'mega' stage secrets and pop culture references (from Carmageddon and Silent Hill 4 The Room to Chopping Mall).Storyline: 8/10The story won't make you weep like RDR2 or FF7 remake, but that's not what the game's about. It's a pretty straight forward story and despite that is done well, giving the game good momentum and reason for the player to keep progressing through levels.Overall: 5*Whether you played DN3D, Blood or those classics and miss them. Or never heard of 3D Realms, this is a unique and fun FPS that's definitely worth getting, or at least checking on YouTube. It's practically the sequel to DN3D we never really got, only with the awesome Shelly instead of Duke.

Love letter to 90s FPS
This is a great 90s fps. Anyone who played and liked Duke Nukem 3D have to give this a try. My only complain is regarding the controls, this was made to be played with a mouse and keyboard, aiming with a controller is not all that great.Still recommended!

90s Nostalgia FPS done right
I had originally seen this getting reviewed by youtuber 'civvie 11' and really liked the look and vibe I was seeing. Picked up a copy off amazon for about 35$ and dove in. Was everything I was expecting, fast paced classic FPS with 90s build engine graphics that have been taken to almost an artform. Great weapons that all feel unique and useful. Lots of enemy types that will keep you on your toes. The game is fairly long, levels are all pretty varied and if your looking for all the secrets this thing has to offer... well good luck without a guide. It would take weeks and you still probably would not find everything. Sounds were all spot on and I really enjoyed 95% of the soundtrack. I played through on easy difficulty and the hardest setting, easy was indeed easy, and maximum fury (hardest) was an absolute challenge. The game allows you to save at anytime in the pause menu which made things easier all around. Overall great throwback, the developers put a lot of love into this one. Check out some youtube videos of gameplay if your on the fence. Game only has a euro physical copies but PS4 is not region locked so it works just fine on US stations.
