Art for Kids: Drawing: The Only Drawing Book You'll Ever Need to Be the Artist You've Always Wanted to Be Paperback – April 1, 2014

My son wanted to learn shading and this book taught him well! We did one lesson based on the shading chapter and he's been shading everything he draws every since. Straight forward and great for kids. I love this book!

The book has all the basics needed by a child interested in learning the tools and techniques of drawing. I purchased Drawing, along with “Advanced Drawing” for my granddaughter.

This is really a 4.5 but had to round up. Very detailed book. Soft gloss pages. Pastel shades for various sections.Content: Everyone Can Draw (motivational/encouraging); The Drawing Toolbox (basic supplies); Chpt 1 Open your Artist's Eyes; Chpt 2 Line Drawing; Chpt 3 Light and Shadow; Chpt 4 Proportion and Scale; Chpt 5 Perspective (great chapter on the lines and views; Chpt 6 Drawing Faces (focus on individual elements them combining); Chpt 7 Drawing Bodies (seeing the joints and proportion); Chpt 8 Anything Can Happen (imagination and creativity vs reality)...112 pages of instructions, examples and tips.It loses half star only because I feel it is a little too wordy for kids...not really child reading. My daughter flipped through the book and didn't want to read just wanted to try. She wants new to read it and relay the information and she is an avid reader who loves to draw. She started on the eye as she got the book today. But I rounded up because the content is great and she may read it if she is having problems following the diagram.Will update over time...she's jostling me for it as I was noting the chapters. Watching details and not reading. We'll see.

I can't believe this was only $5! Most bang for you're buck that you'll get out of a beginners art book. They even cover sightsizing.I am honestly surprised at how much they cover - perspective, portraits, and proportions are all here.If you're looking to get into detail on a specific subject, you will have to look elsewhere though. If you want to cover all your basics, this is a great start.It's well organized and written clearly. Would recommend.

I got this and now I am so much better at drawing! It is amazing, I wanted to learn how to make hands and arms and eyes and it has it all. Me and my friend looked up all the stuff we needed. I totally recommend for kids and beginners. I mean even people who are already advanced could find something useful in this book. Great buy. Very good quality.

This book is part of tapestry of grace home school curriculum. I'm very thankful for that. I would not have found this book otherwise. It's not just a how to draw a certain thing kind of book. It teaches technique. My son is learning skills he will be able to use to draw whatever he'd like.Being a home school mom, I can't be every teacher he would have in a public or private school. I think this book takes the place of the art teacher as far as drawing is concerned. In fact it is much better than any drawing instruction I received in school. I'm highly impressed. So much so I looked up the author to find that she has another book. I ordered it. I'm still waiting for it to come in the mail.

Flipped through the book after receipt and thought it was a bit mature for younger kids. I read other reviews that say it is appropriate for 8+ but it seems a bit much for that age group. I admit I don’t have children (this was for a friend’s 9 yo.) so maybe I just don’t appreciate the modern kid. Either way, perhaps keep in mind the maturity level of the child you are buying for. If they are really serious, would be a good book. If you’re wanting them to have fun with it, maybe not.
