Absolutely worth a try!
Full disclosure: Several months after purchasing this shampoo from Amazon, I was contacted by Maple Holistics and asked, if satisfied, would write a review in return for free product. I am a principled person and would never agree to this were I not A) 100% happy with my purchase B) compelled to help others who could benefit from Maple Holistics' Degrease Shampoo. It seemed overnight that my 13 year-old daughter's (thick, above-the-shoulder) hair went from beautiful and bouncy to SUPER oily and lank. We tried every clarifying shampoo (drugstore brands like Suave, Neutragena, etc.) being careful to wash thoroughly, but not to over cleanse, to use only the most minimal conditioner on the ends, brushing but not over brushing to 'distribute' the oils, etc. etc - plus dry shampoo in between washes- and nothing seemed to alleviate the problem. As soon as her hair dried, it looked oily and almost wet-- upsetting to her and vexing for me. (I'm cringing for her just thinking back on this!) I wouldn't tell her this, but her hair also had a persistently oily smell, whether she was just out of the shower or not. It even remained when she had her hair professionally washed at a salon! At wits end, I scoured the Internet and poured over Amazon reviews, finally coming across Degrease. The name was scary and intriguing at the same time, and I had never heard of the company or product. But, because it wasn't outlandishly expensive, I ordered a bottle with fairly low expectations. My daughter was slightly horrified to try a shampoo that sounded like something a mechanic would use to clean a garage floor; however, she followed the instructions and..... was really happy with the results. Finally, clean hair! But, even better, my daughter no longer frets about looking like she's just emerged from swimming in an oil slick. Hallelujah! Clearly, there is no magic bullet, especially when teenage hormones are involved. However, Degrease has made a big, big difference. My daughter washes her hair every other day, depending on sports or whatever, and still uses dry shampoo occasionally on in between washes. Her hair is pretty and shiny without that gluey, wet look - thank goodness - it had before. We have not experimented with using this product in tandem with an apple cider vinegar rinse or anything like that - maybe that would boost the product's ability to emulsify oil? - mainly because we've been satisfied as is. Her hair looks and smells fresh- the shampoo has an herby scent that I don't mind, definitely not a floral perfume, if that matters. In short, we tried many, many products and even some home remedies, but nothing worked as well as Degrease. I have recommended it to many friends and they've all liked it. Finally, I should also add that you can also feel good about using a product that is free of parabens and other nasty ingredients!

36 years old, fine hair that's oily and itchy, thank goodness I found Maple Holistics
I actually thought this would be just another gimmick. I have fine oily hair but recently due to another hair product line, I started having an itchy scalp. so itchy that I actually booked an appointment with my primary doctor thinking I had lice! My doctor told me that there was a resistant strand of live going around and referred me to an actual lice professional. Which I didn't even know excited. I just knew when she took one look at my scalp she was going to say....yep you've got lice. However, she told me what she saw was obviously allot of inflammation and she could see places where I had scratched so hard that I had scabs. So she then referred me to a dermatologist. Well I had enough of referrals, some might disagree with my decision to not see a dermatologist and that's okay but I decided to do some investigating on my own. I looked up reasons for why my scalp could be doing this. From my hard water, to products with sulfate, to allergies, to hormonal imbalance, to hair coloring, to my PH being off, to the medicine I take and to what and how I eat. The one thing I noticed on all these sites were they suggested to start with a gentle sulfate free shampoo, the more free of chemicals the better. Which lead me to searching for the top rated, voted, preferred shampoo and conditioner I could find and every site had this product showing as the most preferred. So this is my 3rd week using it. The itching is almost a thing of the past. I went from waking up in the middle of the night and taking my nails and scratching as hard as I can. Running to the bathroom at work just to scratch my head. Looking at my watch when I had appointments with my customers, not really listening to what they were saying. All I could think of is I cannot wait to get in the car and scratch my scalp......to now maybe sn average of 3 times a day I might have sn itchy place on my scalp that I can scratch once and the itch is gone. The oil that I used to produce, had me wanting to wash my hair everyday, I wouldn't bc that's not good for your hair but I sure as heck would want to bc the 2nd day for me would look like a week for others (gross). Now I can go 2 days and my hair still looks clean and fresh. I could probably go a 3rd day but I haven't tried that yet.Now for those who have oily scalp but dry brittle hair, don't worry you can use this bc the product is gentle. Yes it cleans. However, it does not strip and we all know the difference. I also have not felt the need to put other products in my hair like mousse or volumizer or hairspray. Not that I did that much in the first place but I found that my hair looks gorgeous without it. Also, I use the Argan Conditioner with this based on me going to the sellers website and it showed that they recommend this shampoo and conditioner together. I like the conditioner and I will continue to use it as well bc I believe that pairing the two could give me the best results, just my opinion. However, I love....no not love....I AM OBSESSED WITH MAPLE HOLISTICS DEGREASE SHAMPOO! I hope my review helps others to give it a try and not just for a couple of days, to those impatient brothers and sisters of mine who are like me. Actually give it a real whole hearted try. Then I would say after a month if it doesn't work for you then at least you truly know if it worked for you or not. I hope all my Amazon peeps have a blessed day.

A tale of lousy hair (with a happy ending)
I normally don't write reviews, but I rely on them when purchasing products, so I decided to give this a go. I have been using Maple Holistics Degrease shampoo for a month now. I had been continuously searching for a shampoo that worked for my hair type which is long, fine, oily/greasy, and is falling out quite a bit lately. Other things that were important to me in a shampoo were the ingredients - no sulfates, parabens, etc. A bit about me - I have oily, acne-prone skin, so it is not surprising that my scalp would have similar issues. Recently I was diagnosed with iron-deficient anemia, which is what has contributed to my hair loss. Otherwise, I have no hormonal imbalances or otherwise that would cause oily, shedding hair (just genetics, I happen to be Italian-American). While dealing with my horrible hair, I had tried many different techniques including the "no poo" method, just using baking soda and ACV to rinse my hair. Not a good idea. I also tried Wen, and again, this made me practically go bald! After doing some research about this, I learned a lot about hair and scalp and I just wanted to share that here, in hopes that it may save someone else the frustrations that I went through. Generally I had been washing my hair every-other day, or even every 2 days, as recommended and encouraged by systems like Wen or "no poo". But now I know that it is important, especially for those of us who have oily or dandruff-prone hair, to wash every single day. The buildup of oils on the scalp can block the follicle and cause the hair to fall out. Once I started washing my hair daily, it stopped shedding in massive amounts. What a relief! I use the Degrease shampoo as directed - a quarter-sized amount worked into the scalp and left to sit for a few minutes, then rinse. It produces a rich lather and rinses clean easily. It does feel a bit drying, so I follow with the Maple Holistics Silk 18 conditioner on the ends of my hair, and it is the most pleasant-smelling hair product I have ever used. After showering and blowdrying, I am left with soft, silky, healthy-feeling hair that smells really good. Oh, and it doesn't feel greasy or oily at all. Living up to its name! Moral of the story is: when in doubt, wash your hair every day, especially if it's oily. Washing 1x per day will not cause it to be more oily or dry. Your scalp is still skin, after all, and you need to care for it in order to have healthy hair, by washing to remove the oil (sebum) and environmental toxins it is exposed to daily. This shampoo is great for people with oily, fine hair, and the ingredients are natural and safe. I will definitely be sticking with this shampoo from now on.

I have fine, oily hair and it's been great so far!
I've only used it a few times, so I can't speak for the long-term effects, but this shampoo has been great so far! I have very fine, soft, silky hair, which is great for a day, but by the time I wake up in the morning, it's very oily. I try to avoid washing my hair every day, because I dye it frequently and want to preserve the color as much as I can. Unfortunately, that can be difficult considering how greasy my hair gets. I can usually get away with skipping a day if I use dry shampoo, but never more than that. I've used it every morning for the past few days. On the first day I washed twice (per the instructions), but I don't think that is strictly necessary. If I have a lot of leftover product in my hair (which I usually do, since it is cut short and lacks any natural volume/texture), it doesn't lather up a huge amount, but I think that's true of most shampoos that I've used. If there is no product in my hair, it foams up even more than other shampoos. Either way, it gets the job done. I prioritize massaging it into my scalp and only lightly wash the ends of my hair. I have not been following it up with conditioner and my hair feels fine afterwards - not quite as silky as it would if I did use conditioner, but not so dry and stiff that I feel like I have to use conditioner. It's a small bottle, but you don't need to use too much, so I think it should last for awhile. That said, it is also pretty reasonably priced for a specialized shampoo, considering I've spent $20+ on "color preserving" bottles before. I'm hoping that over time this shampoo will help regulate the amount of oil my scalp produces, but I'm very happy with the purchase even if it doesn't go that far. It's great just for regular use, as it leaves my hair feeling fresh and clean, and will probably help reduce my scalp acne as well. Update: I shower every morning, so my hair gets rinsed every day at the very least, but I've only been washing it every 2-3 days and I haven't needed to use dry shampoo on the off days (like I used to). My hair is short, which probably helps, but I do put product in it daily (matte clay + hairspray). Despite my skepticism, this shampoo does seem to have actually reduced the amount of oil my scalp produces and my hair is less greasy overall than it used to be. I am very satisfied with this purchase and will be buying more when I run out.

a balanced degresser
I really do enjoy testing out products for my body. To see what works, the benefits, and the drawbacks. I was looking for a shampoo to address the sebum build up and my itchy scalp because my prior shampoo was just making everything worse. After my first wash, my hair felt great, my scalp was clean and refreshed and no itching at all! While using this product, my job was to sanitize laboratory equipment. That means there is a ton of alcohol being sprayed around my hair. With this shampoo I was able to clean the sweat and oil that built up from working, and at the same time restore my alcohol frizzed hair to balance. I loved the scent and exciting went ahead and purchased another bottle so I could have no delay in my routine. I quit my the lab job and continued to use the same routine and found the shampoo to actually dry my scalp and hair more than usual. The itching came to a point where I had to shampoo twice a day to relieve it. I wasn't even all the way through with the first bottle and now I reluctantly had a second bottle sitting around. Maybe my scalp grew accustomed to the formula. Their email support suggested it was a change of seasons, but I started using the shampoo in October till February and the winter didn't seem to have any effect all those months. Needless to say, I kindly requested Maple Holistics to stand by their satisfaction guarantee and send me another bottle of a different formula. After a long wait between emails, they stood by their claim and told me to provide an address where they will send me the new shampoo. I've still yet to see any bottle in my mailbox and that was back in February.... If my customer experience was a little better in handling my issue I would have enjoyed this shampoo a lot more. I would love to try out one of their other formulas, however the price is a bit steep to take the chance. ***UPDATE 06/26/14: Maple Holistics support contacted me and apologized for the previous mishap. They sent me another bottle of Degreaser and their Sage Shampoo right away. This interaction was with a different support member and much better than my previous experience. I'm now testing their Sage shampoo every other day and will produce a review of that when I feel I gathered enough data.

Great product!
I am really loving my first Maple Holistic product, the Shampoo For Oily, Itchy and Greasy Hair. I tend to have oily hair (especially around my hairline) even when I wash my hair every day or two. But a few months ago I resolved to washing less, most especially to avoid using as much heat to style so often. So now I go several days between washes, usually washing on the third or fourth day... and my hair can get pretty oily! I like that the natural oils are nourishing my hair but I like for my hair to feel clean after I wash it and other shampoos were not doing the trick. I would have to wash really well two times to achieve my desired level of cleanliness. With the Maple Holistics shampoo I only have to wash once, saving me time and money AND it is less impactful on the environment. I rinse my hair with very warm water to loosen the oils up and then I split my hair just above my ears and put a little more than a quarter size amount of the product on the bottom half of my scalp, concentrating on massaging it into my scalp and the roots of my hair and letting it set (not pulling it through to the ends) while I do the same at the crown of my head. I usually let it sit for a minute or so while I wash and then I add a bit of water and a little conditioner and massage it into the rest of my hair. After rinsing I condition, concentrating mostly on the ends and trying not to massage into my scalp too much. Then I rinse with cooler water after a minute or so. Now back to the bit where I said I add a little conditioner when I lather the Shampoo for Oily, Itchy and Greasy hair... I found in the first times I used it that, although working nicely to break down the oils, that it was maybe a little too effective, leaving my hair feeling very dry. So I tried letting it set on my scalp for less time but it didn't change the result (and I have found that that step is really beneficial in helping to calm the sebaceous glands, so much so that, at about the half-used mark of my first bottle, I have already noticed that my hair is less oily for the first couple of days after washing). So I decided to see what it would be like to add the conditioner and, wa-la! It felt much better! Before, I didn't feel comfortable running my fingers through after washing, before conditioning, because my hair felt too dry. That being said, the result of having overly-cleaned hair was something I actually expected, given the nature of the product, and it most certainly isn't a deterrent to me continuing to use it. My one suggestion would be to search for a way to make it a little gentler on hair, perhaps coconut or Moroccan oil, if that doesn't tamper with the effectiveness of the product. I will continue to use this shampoo and can't wait to try other products too! I have already told a couple people about it at Thanksgiving dinner! Oh, I almost forgot the mention that it smells great and gives a nice little tingling feeling. Cheers!

80% reduction of itchiness
I've held off writing a review to really give the product a lengthy try. I've had oily hair/scalp my whole life. However, the past 2-3 years it's really amped up, not in a good way. I don't know if it's peri-menopause, hormones, psoriasis, or all the above. I've tried every shampoo out there for dandruff, itchy scalp, etc. None of them really made an appreciable difference. They may have exacerbated the oily, itchy problem. So a few months ago I found myself on amazon once again, searching for something new to try. Anything to help with the itchiness. It has gotten so very untolerable. The itching leads to flakes which leads to embarrassment- if you suffer from flakes and itching, you know this drill well. I was ideally hoping for a complete solution to help what I *think* is psoriasis- and was initially looking at the tea tree shampoo by maple holistics. Almost on a last min whim I decided to go with the degrease shampoo- I hate the name by the way, it's somewhat repulsive to think of degreasing oneself. Anyhow as my overwhelming issue the night I was browsing- has been itchiness, I've been desperate to find something to give some modicum of relief. I can stress enough how horrible the itching has been the past few months- I'd completely curtailed going out in public as much as possible. The itching has lead to scabing in some areas on my scalp and serious pain, both physical and sadly, emotional. It's a horrifying humiliating problem. Maple Holistics shampoo for oily itchy greasy hair really surprised me. I did buy it based on the positive reviews but still I was skeptical. I've been using it for a month now and it has made a huge difference in the itch factor. I have a definite reduction in the amount of itching. It's not gone completely but I'd say conservatively it's about 80% better! I have less build up of scaling. It's not gone, it's not a total solution but my god it's the best thing I've tried thus far. No change for me in the greasiness- I still have to shampoo daily, but I've always done that my entire life, so it's not a drawback and certainly not a reason to discontinue use. I am thrilled with this shampoo. It has an interesting scent- I'd describe it somewhat like a Pine/Redwood forest after a rainy day. I find it pleasant although I'd prefer something more floral- again, that's just personal preference as a woman. The one thing you should know, especially if you are a woman with med to long hair- this shampoo leaves my hair horribly tangled. I also bought the silk conditioner and I love it! It smells fabulous but I'll leave a separate review for it... just know that you MUST use a conditioner, or you'll be tearing your hair out trying to comb/brush through it. I will definitely continue using this shampoo and will also try the tea tree shampoo to see if it can help with the flaking/scaling and maybe a combination of the two shampoos will help control my problem a bit more. Overall, I am very happy with my results so far, after using the product daily for the last month. A+

Get it!
This is the real deal! I’m only able to wash my hair every week or so, and it was not actually getting clean and the oil out of it. One wash with this and several days later my hair is still not greasy or oily. I don’t know how they do it, but I will keep using it.

Only suitable for oily scalp
I have combination (dry sensitive and oily) scalp and this caused my scalp and hair to be super dry. And in turn causes my hair to drop even more. On the other hand, my partner has oily scalp only, and he said it combat his scalp condition.

Gran producto. He usado distintas marcas para cabello graso (muy graso) y sin duda está a cumplido con MI objetivo, mantener 24 horas el cabello sin aspecto mojado y sucio. A mí me ha funcionado.
