Great product!
I am really loving my first Maple Holistic product, the Shampoo For Oily, Itchy and Greasy Hair. I tend to have oily hair (especially around my hairline) even when I wash my hair every day or two. But a few months ago I resolved to washing less, most especially to avoid using as much heat to style so often. So now I go several days between washes, usually washing on the third or fourth day... and my hair can get pretty oily! I like that the natural oils are nourishing my hair but I like for my hair to feel clean after I wash it and other shampoos were not doing the trick. I would have to wash really well two times to achieve my desired level of cleanliness. With the Maple Holistics shampoo I only have to wash once, saving me time and money AND it is less impactful on the environment. I rinse my hair with very warm water to loosen the oils up and then I split my hair just above my ears and put a little more than a quarter size amount of the product on the bottom half of my scalp, concentrating on massaging it into my scalp and the roots of my hair and letting it set (not pulling it through to the ends) while I do the same at the crown of my head. I usually let it sit for a minute or so while I wash and then I add a bit of water and a little conditioner and massage it into the rest of my hair. After rinsing I condition, concentrating mostly on the ends and trying not to massage into my scalp too much. Then I rinse with cooler water after a minute or so. Now back to the bit where I said I add a little conditioner when I lather the Shampoo for Oily, Itchy and Greasy hair... I found in the first times I used it that, although working nicely to break down the oils, that it was maybe a little too effective, leaving my hair feeling very dry. So I tried letting it set on my scalp for less time but it didn't change the result (and I have found that that step is really beneficial in helping to calm the sebaceous glands, so much so that, at about the half-used mark of my first bottle, I have already noticed that my hair is less oily for the first couple of days after washing). So I decided to see what it would be like to add the conditioner and, wa-la! It felt much better! Before, I didn't feel comfortable running my fingers through after washing, before conditioning, because my hair felt too dry. That being said, the result of having overly-cleaned hair was something I actually expected, given the nature of the product, and it most certainly isn't a deterrent to me continuing to use it. My one suggestion would be to search for a way to make it a little gentler on hair, perhaps coconut or Moroccan oil, if that doesn't tamper with the effectiveness of the product. I will continue to use this shampoo and can't wait to try other products too! I have already told a couple people about it at Thanksgiving dinner! Oh, I almost forgot the mention that it smells great and gives a nice little tingling feeling. Cheers!

Actually works. A lifesaver.
Update the second: If you're still struggling with greasy hair while using this, you may have hard water. I got a weekly clarifying shampoo to complement this shampoo. (Odele is great for getting hard water deposits out!) Combined with a silicone shampoo brush and a weekly salycilic acid conditioner, my hair is finally normal, and this shampoo is the center of my hair care routine! Update: I first purchased this in November of 2023, and have only had to buy a new bottle once. Just a little foams up beautifully, and the shampoo itself lets me go 3-4 days between hair washing so one bottle lasts a good long while. I haven't had any major issues with dryness, but I apply a protein mask to my hair ends once a month. Most importantly, I have MCAS, and my immune system often reacts to shampoo once I've used it enough times, but I haven't had that issue with this shampoo. It doesn't trigger any reactions, and it's soothed my itchy scalp. I'm sold. I won't need any other shampoo. I'm disabled, and I'm often bed bound, or I don't have the ability to wash my hair (can wash myself but not my hair), leading to long days between showers, which leads to greasy hair that makes my scalp a nightmare of itching. I've tried a lot of shampoos, and all of them were "clarifying" or simply "invigorating," or they have Sodium Laurel Sulfate- which I'm horribly allergic to. I was close to simply buzzing my hair out of desperation, and to ease things for me- this shampoo was literally one of my last two options. I waited a few weeks to see how it worked, and I am so glad I ordered it. This shampoo has let me go up to 3-4 days between washes, and it's eased the itching of my scalp. My hair is soft, manageable, and doesn't get as greasy as quickly. It has a very herbal scent, which some people might not like, but I love it. It smells fresh and clean and almost reminds me of a rainy forest morning. Also, despite the lack of SLS, it still lathers up well enough, and I haven't needed conditioner afterwards. It's a bit pricey, but I will continue to get this shampoo, because it's increased my quality of life in the hygiene department!

Only shampoo that brings me relief!
I have tried various shampoos to combat my oily hair and irritated scalp. I can't name them off the top of my head, but they were mostly the ones you'd find at local drugstores. I do recall having tried tea tree oil shampoo as well, but no luck. I saw this online and was really excited to try something new. The biggest turn off for me, however, was the price. I feel the asking price is rather steep just for shampoo. Well, I have to say that this stuff works well for me. My hair is short, average thickness and tends to be wavy as it grows longer. I tend to have an itchy scalp towards the upper back of my head, but no dandruff. I would experience around 1-3 small bumps at a given time that appeared to feel like pimples...but I was never sure what they were. Either way, the itchiness would drive me insane at times. When I gave in and would scratch my head, the number one thing I would notice was how greasy my hair felt. This led me to believe that my oily hair was to blame for the bumps and itchiness I was experiencing. After using this shampoo, I felt relief from the itchiness and the overly greasy hair. My hair used to get so greasy that I could style it without any products (of course, this was later in the day, not right out of the shower!). Now, I don't experience that anymore. It's a huge relief and I'm glad I was able to find something that works. No more itching, the bumps are completely gone and goodbye grease. Since I'm a guy with short hair, I don't know how this would affect someone's hair that is longer and of a different texture. But I think if you are willing to put out a little more money to relieve your itching scalp and greasy hair, this is worth a shot. I took one star away for the price. Sorry! Works great for me, I just feel it's rather expensive just for shampoo.

Gorgeous Scent and Doesn't Dry Hair
I am obsessed with the scent of this shampoo. With any hair product, the first thing you notice is definitely the way it smells, and the smell of the Degrease Moisture Control is absolutely gorgeous. This shampoo contains lemon, rosemary, and basil, and that is definitely the smell that comes across. It's a very herbal, soothing scent that reminds of the products used in nice spas. It's odd - I find the scent relaxing at night thanks to the rosemary, and invigorating in the mornings thanks to the lemon. It's such a unique, beautiful smell. But the scent alone isn't why I adore this shampoo. While a lot of degrease shampoos leave hair incredibly dry, even when you follow up with a conditioner, this product leaves hair soft and vibrant. One of my biggest priorities when styling my hair is achieving volume at my roots, and this shampoo does an amazing job of that, even though it isn't sold as a volumizer. However, by truly removing excess product build-up and oil at the scalp, it allows my hair to no longer be weighed down at the root, and to have a lot more volume. This shampoo works a little differently than normal shampoos, and you have to make sure you read the directions, which tell you to let it sit on your scalp for about three minutes. It tingles a little bit, but by no means stings or irritates. My favorite trick when using this shampoo is to copy what stylists in salons do when they prepare your hair to be washed. Before you get in the shower, brush your hair thoroughly, and give yourself a light scalp massage with the pads of your fingers. This breaks up the oil and dirt at the roots and allows you to really thoroughly cleanse your scalp when you shampoo. Between using that trick and this shampoo, my scalp has never felt cleaner, and the health and vibrancy of my hair at the roots is absolutely stunning. This shampoo is a perfect solution for anyone with an oily scalp. It's incredibly effective, but also very gentle. My sister has a very dry hair type and no issues with oil at the roots, but she actually likes to borrow this as a once-a-week clarifying shampoo. I think it is perfect for that, and can be used to deeply cleanse the scalp, even for those who only need such a thorough cleansing once a week or month.

Second purchase was far inferior — what happened to the amazing product?
Updated Review 2026 (3 stars): Has the formulation changed? The concentration, lather & effectiveness I loved in the first bottle were all simply not there when I purchased a second bottle. I absolutely raved about this product, but unfortunately it’s lost sight of all the things that set it apart. I will not be purchasing this again. Original Review 2023 (5 stars) Overall, this is a great product that does exactly what it claims. My hair has always been on the oily side, requiring washes daily. Many shampoos and conditioners leave my hair initially clean yet noticeably oily by the end of the day. The instructions call for a “quarter-sized amount” - I was skeptical but this shampoo is far more concentrated than others I have used. A quarter sized amount was plenty! It forms a very rich lather. I prefer to use a shampoo brush/massager with this shampoo. The scent is a bit medicinal and while I don’t necessarily like it, there is no residual scent after rinsing. I try to keep the product to the roots only, it lathers SO much, it inevitably ends up on the length as well. That said, the shampoo is fairly drying to my hair. I tend to use this bi-weekly and like to follow it with a lamellar rinse (L’Oréal Elvive 8 Second Water, I believe it is called) and a light conditioner (neutrogena clarifying conditioner). I will definitely purchase this product again, although as concentrated as it is, it will be quite some time before I need more!

I have fine, oily hair and it's been great so far!
I've only used it a few times, so I can't speak for the long-term effects, but this shampoo has been great so far! I have very fine, soft, silky hair, which is great for a day, but by the time I wake up in the morning, it's very oily. I try to avoid washing my hair every day, because I dye it frequently and want to preserve the color as much as I can. Unfortunately, that can be difficult considering how greasy my hair gets. I can usually get away with skipping a day if I use dry shampoo, but never more than that. I've used it every morning for the past few days. On the first day I washed twice (per the instructions), but I don't think that is strictly necessary. If I have a lot of leftover product in my hair (which I usually do, since it is cut short and lacks any natural volume/texture), it doesn't lather up a huge amount, but I think that's true of most shampoos that I've used. If there is no product in my hair, it foams up even more than other shampoos. Either way, it gets the job done. I prioritize massaging it into my scalp and only lightly wash the ends of my hair. I have not been following it up with conditioner and my hair feels fine afterwards - not quite as silky as it would if I did use conditioner, but not so dry and stiff that I feel like I have to use conditioner. It's a small bottle, but you don't need to use too much, so I think it should last for awhile. That said, it is also pretty reasonably priced for a specialized shampoo, considering I've spent $20+ on "color preserving" bottles before. I'm hoping that over time this shampoo will help regulate the amount of oil my scalp produces, but I'm very happy with the purchase even if it doesn't go that far. It's great just for regular use, as it leaves my hair feeling fresh and clean, and will probably help reduce my scalp acne as well. Update: I shower every morning, so my hair gets rinsed every day at the very least, but I've only been washing it every 2-3 days and I haven't needed to use dry shampoo on the off days (like I used to). My hair is short, which probably helps, but I do put product in it daily (matte clay + hairspray). Despite my skepticism, this shampoo does seem to have actually reduced the amount of oil my scalp produces and my hair is less greasy overall than it used to be. I am very satisfied with this purchase and will be buying more when I run out.

A+ Game Changer for those struggling with an Oily Scalp / Greasy Hair
I have been struggling with a greasy scalp & combination skin for as long as I can remember. I recently learned the cheap crap shampoo I've been buying is actually stripping my hair of natural oils and therefore causing my scalp to hyper-produce oil to try to makeup for it. Think you've got oil issues? I can not go a day without washing my hair. If I don't, I look like a sleazy car salesman with all that oil. And my skin feels even worse. My skin is so oily that even if I take a Mexican shower in the sink for my bangs so my hair looks acceptable, my skin is still so oily (even after I wash it) that I can hardly stand it. It feels disgusting. So after some extensive researching, this was one of the few products I could find that didn't have s*** ingredients, but was still somewhat affordable. Since Maple Holistics doesn't have a conditioner I also decided to buy the Wen Cucumber Aloe Cleansing Conditioner since so many people seemed obsessed with it & that one is for oil control. Here is what happened: I got Degrease first & while my stylist said that it could take up to 1 month to fix my issues, the difference after 2 DAYS was insane. For the first time in my life I could go 2 days without washing my hair. My scalp didn't get as oily as usual & neither did my skin. That day was amazing. And my hair just felt SO much better. It was less tangled, more voluminous, all around awesome. And it just feels so clean. Do you know how relieving it is to not worry about all the oil for the first time in my life? It's way better than Wen. I actually dislike the Wen product, my scalp/skin reacts no differently, it gets just as oily, if not worse. And for $30 that was a huge waste. Plus it has Cetyl Alcohol. ONLY Con: It's a small bottle. I wish it came in a much larger bottle with a bulk price tag. I did just notice on their website that if you buy at least 2 bottles, you get them for $12/bottle. Which is certainly much better. (PS if anyone else struggles with oily/combination skin, I just discovered Vasanti BrightenUp! It's unlike any product I've tried for help with my oily skin. It is A+ amazing.)

I had itching scalp with painful swelling blemishes and scabs.
1st-Having always had sensitive skin, I had adjusted as well as anyone to the limited availability in the marketplace for personal care products that address sensitive AND oily skin. When appealing to the masses, it seems most companies neglect the needs of this group of individuals. Having become extremely ill early this year, the resulting impact on my liver seemed to be the culprit behind the devastating skin eruptions, painful swelling knots and scabs, etc all over my head/scalp. Use of both prescription and OTC products resulted in zero effectiveness. I had to cut my short hair almost to the scalp so I could just deal with the scalp problems. One OTC "clinical" shampoo was helpful, but the effectiveness only lasted for part of the day. By evening, I had to rewash my scalp to fend off the "blemishes". After seeing a list of "10 Shampoos for Oily, Itchy Scalps", I started trying the shampoos on this list... one at a time. After 3 fails, my next attempt was Maple Holistics Degreaser for itchy, greasy scalps. And miracles of miracles....this shampoo is nothing short of AMAZING! Blemishes, scabs, etc began healing on day one. The infernal itching stopped immediately. Nothing else I tried up to this point stopped the itching AT All. I can now go all day without a breakout and the gross scabs that just pop up all over my scalp. And how happy I am to get to the end of the day and my scalp is still clean and not already greasy in dire need of rewashing. How I use this product: to save money, my first lather is with a clarifying shampoo just to cut through the dust and oil of the day. THEN I squeeze a quarter size amount of product in my hand (and yes, that is ALL it takes). This small amount wonderfully creates an emollient that covers my entire scalp. I massage it in (it feels wonderful) and just leave it. The directions suggest 2-3 min. I don't time it...just leave it while I complete chores, brush my teeth or whatever. It rinses so quickly and effortlessly, it's actually enjoyable now to wash my hair. For me, Maple Holistics Degreaser is an answer to prayer. 2nd- It has been a few years and life changes many things for us all over time. Since I first reviewed this product, I have had a number of occasions to try other "degreaser" shampoos that have come out on the market that were supposed to heal all manner of scalp maladies. Some were suggested by "professionals" at hair salons. The results? NONE...NOT ONE of the varied (and often expensive) shampoos worked.... Maple Holistics Degreaser stands alone, in my opinion and vast experience with shampoos to treat scalp issues AND greasy, oily hair. So many of the companies that produce products to treat problem scalps do not really get it...problem scalps are NOT exclusive to people with dry hair. Even when advertised "for oily scalps", they are NOT for seriously oily scalps, much less for problem scalps. Hands down, Maple Holistics Degreaser shampoo (awa the great conditioner) is the best product of it's kind.

Only suitable for oily scalp
I have combination (dry sensitive and oily) scalp and this caused my scalp and hair to be super dry. And in turn causes my hair to drop even more. On the other hand, my partner has oily scalp only, and he said it combat his scalp condition.
