Matte Black Is Good For the Budget Minded (See Edited Review for Gold and Rose Gold)
ETA: I bought these in the matte black and really liked them a lot. So, I also ordered 2 sets each in Gold and Rose Gold. What I have written below this paragraph is for the black ones which I do like. This paragraph is for the Gold and Rose Gold varieties. They are TERRIBLE!!! The flat bases are scratched up, and the holes in the bases do not have even colour around them. I would say they looked used because of the scratches, but the poor colouring around the hole say they are just very cheaply made. The Gold is not a nice, deep gold-gold. If I saw these at a store in this condition, I would not buy them for $5 a set much less $25 a set. I am stunned. I do not recommend these AT ALL.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------These candleholders earn a *somewhat* reluctant overall rating of three stars from me, but I would rather curve upward than downward on stars if possible, and it is indeed possible in this case considering the appallingly overpriced competition found at big department stores and specialty stores.Christmas is sadly passed, and I am already counting the days until next November. I literally live for Autumn, Winter, and the holidays, so It always saddens me to take down my decorations not least of which are my window candles. I use the GE electric window candles which are nice enough for the price, but the electrical cords are a bit of a headache, and if one of these falls over, even by less than 2 ft., and even if the bulb does not break, the fuse will blow, so they are indeed a bit of a headache even though they look nice and are very bright seen from both outdoors and indoors.Since I am always reluctant to lose the warmth of glowing lights at night, and since I want to save the electric window candles as the "special" ones used for Christmas, I bought some flameless candles to replace the electric Christmas window candles. (I have become a bit of a flameless candle junkie actually. Seriously.).Although the flameless candles will stand on their own in my windows, I wanted something to raise them a bit higher for a better effect, so I began looking at candleholders. I read tons of mixed reviews on many brands offered on Amazon, and eventually I decided to purchase two sets of these Sujun candleholders in the Matte Black Colour. I personally think the prices (and not just candleholders) at large department stores and speciality stores such as Pottery Barn are unreasonable for what you receive, i.e. soulless, mass produced items that are usually made in China and not so well made as to be of heirloom quality, yet they want near heirloom prices for them. Those folks who want to spend their hard earned money at such stores are welcome to do so, but I would rather either spend a lot more for fine quality antiques or spend a lot less for the soulless, mass produced items made in China which are of mediocre quality at best but are priced much more realistically for the average buyer. Enter these Sujun candleholders.Firstly, let me say that this sort of minimalistic style is not my usual cuppa. I naturally gravitate toward an antique style---the more 19th-century-like the style the better for me, but something about these candleholders appealed. I think their varied height combined with their small bases which would fit my window sills with room to spare, plus their matte black colour which mimics cast iron won me over, and the price point was/is utterable without the buyer gasping and fainting. I purchased two boxes. Thankfully, they look just like the photos.Secondly, the quality is just okay, but I really did not expect much more. If you saw these candleholders at the dollar store, you would not expect to pay more than $5.99 for the three piece set. I do not know what kind of metal they are made of, but it is fairly lightweight, yet it can pass as cast iron from a distance. These candleholders hold my flameless candles just fine, though, and so long as they are placed out of harm's way, i.e. somewhere neither children nor pets nor clumsy adults such as myself can knock them over, they should do their job well enough for a considerably long time. I may look for a clear matte acrylic spray with which to spray them to help protect their surfaces because with use, I can envision the black colour chipping off pretty easily and fading if left in direct sunlight. UV rays are deadly to even the finest objects. I recommend handling them as gently and as infrequently as possible. I would never use more than a barely damp, soft cloth to wipe off dust, and I would only recommend using flameless candles in these because the bottoms are not heavily weighted. Always do everything possible to avoid fire. The upshot is (1) they look like the photos and were child's play to assemble. Note, if you are screwing in one end and it does not seem to want to go in very easily, turn the stick around and try the other end. Above all, be gentle and take your time. None of the pieces are marked since they are supposed to be universal components, but I think some cups and some bases work better with different ends of the sticks. For those who had problems with assembly, they should have tried this if they did not.(2) If you place them out of harms way and are careful whilst handling them, they should hold up pretty well, but a coat or two of a good acrylic spray to harden and protect their surfaces should help. Of course treating them with an clear acrylic spray adds to their cost slightly, but it will also prolong their useful life by quite a bit, so I think it is worth it to spray them. I would not put them in direct sunlight either. Sun fades even the best made products. Gently clean with a barely damp, soft cloth, and gently wipe dry with a clean soft cloth. That should be all the care they will ever need whilst they grace your tables, mantles, windowsills, and bookcases. These holders are overpriced for what they are in my opinion, and I wish they were *at least* 10 times heavier than they are, but the style is both pleasing and functional, and if they are well cared for, they could last for years and years and still be worth something on the aftermarket some day should you decide you ever want to sell them. Therefore, I recommend them whole heartedly with these provisos, and I would buy them again, until/unless I am able to find more beautiful and better made vintage ones for a reasonable price. I might even purchase two more sets of the Sunjun candleholders in Gold if I can get true Gold tone and not Rose Gold as many reviewers have said that their Gold candleholders turned out to be Rose Gold upon arrival. I do like Rose Gold, but the reason I chose black is the same reason I would buy two sets in Gold as well---they would work all year long with virtually any colour scheme, so I could use them all year and even mix them in with seasonal holiday decor for Autumn/Halloween/Thanksgiving and Christmas. The White colour would be a nice touch for Spring/Easter, too, although I am not sure I would invest in a couple of White coloured sets at this point in time.I agree with other reviewers who wrote that these candleholders look nice enough all on their own without candles, but they look quite nice with the flameless candles that have moving "flames." From a distance, the candles look real in these candleholders even during the daytime, and they look even more real at night in a room with low ambient lighting. I like that the holders's height lifts up the candles to make them stand out in a room's landscape, and their tall, skinny profile allows them to fit into even tight spots on small tables, buffets, window sills, etc. Very importantly, too, is the fact that they will not break the bank, so they are good for the budget minded. However, please do not expect old fashioned high quality here because you will be sorely disappointed. Adjust your expectations downward a few notches, and I think you will be quite pleased with these candleholders and be very glad you saved the extra money that you would have spent for similar brand perhaps only slightly better at a large department store or specialty store such as Pottery Barn. The money you saved either can be spent on some nice flameless candles to go with your Sujun candleholders or something else you need or want. All in all then, at the end of the day, and not to put to fine of a point on it, for the reasons stated above, these candleholders rate three stars and a reasonably enthusiastic thumbs up from me. With Amazon's money back guarantee, you really do not have much to lose if you want to send them back, save a bit of time, effort, and tape, which is not a bad bet, but I think you will end up keeping them and probably even buy a few more sets.

Nice accent piece
Stylish. A little wobbly. I wish they were a bit taller, but that’s on me for not reading the dimensions before ordering. I’d buy again.

Fantastic candle holders
I love these candle holders. I won't lie when I first opened the box I was disappointed because they seemed so small and fragile. You do have to put them together as each candle holder comes in 3 pieces. You take the stick part and screw on the bottom and then screw on the top. Once I put them together and got the candles in place I fell in love with them. They are perfect and gave me the look I was wanting on my mantle. I would absolutely recommend these and will purchase as gifts.

They were ok. I was a little disappointed. I expected them to be a little more steady.

Very pretty set
I bought these in rose gold. They had the potential to look nice but sadly the bases arrived scratched. One has a minor scratch that I can ignore. The other is quite ovbious and makes the candle holder unusable. Pity. I can't recommend them.Update: the company promptly replaced the set with another one that is perfect.
