THE HIGHEST OF ALL SPIRITUAL TOPICS The Srimad Bhagavatam (Bhagavata-Purana) is classified by the great saints of the East as the topmost of all Vedic literatures. Originally written some 5000 years ago by the sage Vyasadeva, this modern translatation into English was literally the life's work of His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Translated from the Sanskrit with full explanations as an act of love for his own guru and teacher Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami Maharaj ,it is the most authoritative version of the great text in existence the modern world. It's stories, and the philosophy contained within have captivated great minds throughout time, and are as fresh today as when they were first spoken by the ancient sages themselves. This book in particular describes the various incarnations of Vishnu since the dawn of time, and those still expected to come in the future. Of all the collections of spiritual teachings found in Vedic literature, Srimad-Bhagavatam is considered the topmost. Vedic literature is sometimes said to be a โdesire tree,โ a tree that can yield whatever one might desire, and of that tree the Srimad-Bhagavatam is said to be the ripe and most relishable fruit. Srimad-Bhagavatam is sometimes said to begin where the Bhagavad-gita leaves off, since it goes even further into the nature of reality and the relationship between all beings and the Absolute. This is the first book of an 18 vol set, in 12 canto's. The first canto ,part 1 contains all the secrets of spiritual life, it is the king of knowledge, the cream of all literature, because it reveals the nature of the self, the soul and the identity of the supreme personality, Krsna. This Bhagavata Purana is said to be eternal, and is written in the ancient sanskrit language, translated word by word into English, and then a full translation of each verse (sloka). That is followed by a commentary from the translator and author, drawing on all the leading teachers of Vedanta over thousands of years, from all spiritual traditions of what is collectively known as Hinduism. Beautifully illustrated, this gem of a book, may well be the most profound thing you will ever read , until you then decide to buy the complete set of 12 cantos, in 18 volumes ! Review: Spiritual enlightenment - If you want to know more about spirituality. Then any book includeing this is a must read. AC Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada explains in very azing way. Review: Excellent - Excellent book and condition.

The Story of the Fortunate One
I bough the whole set of Srimad Bhagavatam containing 18.000 verses and consisting of 12 books also called cantos. Started reading this 1st Canto which is on sale here at Amazon a year or so ago. Its an amazing book. I suggest you read Bhagavad Gita As-It-Is first then begin to read this. Its like the next level up and therefore should be approached systematically. If anyone is lucky enough to own this book you will know what I mean. It is a brilliant story that has been brought to the West by AC Swami Bhaktivedรขnta Prabhupรขda who undertook the daring task of enlightening the materialist westerners as well as the advanced philosophers and theologians, in order to help them to overcome the perils and loneliness of impersonalism and the philosophy of emptiness. Read and be Happy.

Some of the good stuff
This book is of high quality concidering its not a special edition or anything fancy. I bought it to go along with the rest of my set I've been slowly collecting over the years. Unfortunately it was much smaller than I expected. That is of coarse my fault as it says the dimensions. So pay attention to that and you should be on your way finding happiness buying this book.

Accurate and Complete Translation of Srimad-Bhagavatam with Interesting Commentary
Let me begin by saying, Srila Prabhupada's Srimad-Bhagavatam is an excellent translation of this immense "Krishnaite Bible". He provides the primary text in sanskrit transliterated word by word into English for each verse and his commentary on mostly all of the verses. Prabhupada certainly reflects his Gaudiya Vaishnavism views in his commentary and in his views of Sri Chaitanya. That, however, can be a plus or a negative side depending on how you view it. His knowledge of Krishna and his history is second best to none though he does resort to attacking materialists and impersonalists in his commentary. If you are a scholar looking to extract the prime message of Srimad Bhagavatam, much of Srila Prabhupada's commentary is immensely useful even though repetitive at times. The translation is definitely accurate and Srila Prabhupada certainly has the "authority" and experience to translate this text. He has a solid grasp of sanskrit and English and he is familiar with Krishna-Bhakti personally in his life, he is not simply a scholar, which can be a plus for seekers looking for "authenticity". For spiritual seekers focusing on Krishna and Bhakti, this text is essential. I can't think of another full translation of Srimad-Bhagavatam in English other than this text, though its certainly a fine translation. Scholars and Seekers of Krishna alike can benefit from this text.

Poor quality for devotional book. Spent for almost sgd40.
The book came without wrapping. And if the box get wet, the book will definitely get wet. Also, the size of the book is smaller than the usual. Doesnt look authentic. Was very excited for the book, end up got upset.

Great quality hardcover, beautiful artwork inside and out.
Excellent commentary for learning more about Gautiya Vaishnavism and devotional hinduism in general. I would suggest reading a commentary on the Bhagavad Gita (From any learnt individual, but if you want a devotional work as well as a Vaishnavist perspective go for Prabhupada's) before diving into the Bhagavatam.
