Solid, precise, and surprisingly satisfying to use
I’ve been using the Staedtler Mars 780C at my desk for a mix of note-taking and sketching, and it honestly feels more like a proper drafting tool than a regular pencil. The metal body has a nice bit of weight without being tiring, and the knurled grip section gives you good control for detailed lines. The 2mm lead feels smooth on paper and doesn’t snap easily like thinner mechanical leads, which makes it great for quick jotting and rough sketching. The push-clutch mechanism is simple, reliable, and kind of addictive to click if I’m being honest. A couple tradeoffs to know before buying: this isn’t a clicky 0.5mm mechanical pencil you use straight out of the box and forget about. Because it’s a 2mm lead holder, you’ll want a lead pointer to keep the tip sharp, otherwise the line can get a bit thick for fine writing. There’s also no built-in eraser, so you need a separate eraser on the desk. None of that bothers me personally, but it’s something to consider if you wanted a all-in-one everyday school pencil. Overall though, the build quality feels premium, the lead advances smoothly, and it’s the kind of tool that makes you weirdly happy to pick it up and write with it alot.

OLD SCHOOL STILL THE BEST
Same excellent quality as the first one I bought in 1980 for a drafting class in college. Will last a lifetime if you don't loose it. Industry standard. Comfortable to hold and no slip lead. Must try as this is THE BEST! This is my honest and truthful experience and I have not been paid or compensated in any way

Still the best
I actually use these pencils for weekend construction projects (rather than whittling the end off of a rectangular carpenter's pencil) as it always produces a more precise line, and the end cap is a built-in sharpener. I bought my 1st one about 38 years ago as a Freshman in college for drawing class (the last year before CAD), but it recently got misplaced. As I needed 2mm lead as well (assuming I will find my old one), I ended up purchasing a China brand that looked similar, and came with 24 lengths of extra graphite an eraser, and separate hand sharpener - all for the same price as the Staedtler pencil alone. Although the China made one worked well and even had a better system for indicating the graphite hardness inside (in my opinion), the end cap was surprisingly heavy, and without enough friction between the body of the pencil, it kept falling off under normal use. It was well made, just too heavy and/or without enough friction to keep it in place. Long story short, the end of the China brand pencil came off on the job site, and was never found. I ordered the Staedtler to finish the project, and never had an issue with the cap ever coming off during normal use. Maybe if you are using as an indoor drawing pencil a cheaper version will work just fine for you, but for me the Staedtler pencil remains my favorite for excellent outdoor job-site performance!

Thin lead holder and feels great in my hands.
Clutch holder is nice in the hands and easy to use. It's nice and slim and works great when writing for some time. Only complaint is that I did not receive any extra leads or eraser that is supposed to cone with the pencil. Kind of a bummer.

Essential!
My go to pencil for the past decade. I keep one in every bag I own. The included pointer in the cap puts it over the top. Beautiful to look at and in the hand. Excellently designed. Essential.

Absolute beauty! Works like a charm, most pencils would not work after 60percent of the lead is consumed, but this one let's you use up to 95 percent of the lead. Came with a super long lead as well :)
