Mid-East 12" Metal Doumbek With Jingles

Love this drum. Excellent quality.

Drum head was dented (not just loose from being untuned, actually dented), one of the brackets was completely missing and another was bent.

I knew exactly what I was getting when I ordered this drum as I have played several before. This drum has a nice deep sound, but can still produce crisp high tones as well on the edges. If you are a hand drummer you should know the distinction, and the sound of this drum is great once it's tuned (arrives untuned, but it is easy to tune up, you will need a socket for it as it doesn't come with one). The construction on this drums is not stellar and could be improved, I'm going to have to pad under the tuning ring to tighten it up a bit, and also do some padding on the edges to make playing it more pleasant on the hands, but at this price point you can't expect perfection and the sound of the drum is great, the jingles add a nice touch to the sound and also give you another sound you can make with the drum, which is always nice. There are also some tricks you can do with this style of drum that don't work as well on the alexandria style and the tone of the dum is much deeper which is a nice addition when playing with other doumbeks.

Very nice addition to my hand drum collection. The jingles were greatly enhanced by loosening the connection of the internal tambourine and making sure the drum head is angled downward while playing. Despite its size, the drum is relatively lightweight and easily adapted to a strap for playing while standing. The raised nature of the tuning bolts is a little award at first, in regards to hand placement, but it's easy to adjust to. Playing with a wedding ring on also adds another percussive element to this versatile doumbek.

Perfect addition to our kirtan music. Sound great with harmonium.
