I saw Myra Melford's performance of a beautiful piece based on this series that got me to get these books. These books are an introduction to South America and the history we don't know in the United Staes. Time to learn more about our neighbors. Hugo Chavez gave these books to President Obama.

Start with volume I and read all three. Beautiful writing. Informative, dramatic, compelling, essential.
