No matter what your current level of experience and expertise this easy-on-the-brain book will take you by the hand and lead you through today's acceptable bidding sequences. I learned the game more years ago than I'm willing to admit but times - and standards - change. Unless you want to have your partner constantly offering editorials at the table you'd better keep abreast of the commonly accepted methods. This book makes that possible in a clear, no-pain format. You can pick it up and put it down at your leisure. The logical arrangement makes it a snap to locate any particular areas of concern. An index might have been helpful but the detailed Table of Contents serves the reader quite well. There is also an Appendix explaining bridge scoring for both duplicate and rubber games and a useful glossary of terms near and dear to all bridge players. Red headliners and bold print draw your eye immediately to important points and the pages have room to make personal notes should you want to. Published by the American Contract Bridge League, this book is an excellent addition to your bridge library. If I could only afford one book, this would be the one.

I do not understand as nd many bridge books and frequently am left wondering “why?” After reading about the issue under discussion. This book has been more clear to me than others. Helpful.

Easy to read, practice hands to play, and good summaries

Very detailed and well organized on how to bid correctly. Takes a complicated issue and makes it simple to understand. A must have for anyone trying to navigate the concept of bidding. Makes bidding possible to grasp rather than exasperating. With this in hand you will not get lost in the forest.

I took this book to class as a brand new player. After a few lessons, I no longer carried it with me, but used it at home. It is really a wonderful tool. It gives you text, then hands to play using the techniques described in the book. I followed the chapters as I went along, and had no trouble understanding the concepts as I reached them. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Yes...I would recommend this book to any beginner and I would buy it again.
