Would this work for household electric? I live near the water and there's a leak somewhere in the walls!

You need to buy Romex. That is approved to go inside walls. This wire would work for wires not inside a wall though but does NOT meet standards of amp load and fire safety to put inside a closed wall.

are these actual verified AWG? some amazon wires have thick insulation with wimpy copper core which is several gauges less in actual core diameter.

Ancor is known for making the highest quality marine wire and connectors. I have used it for years, but never actually measured the gauge. However, all the various gauges I have used fit snugly into the appropriate size connectors, so I'm pretty sure the actual wire core is the correct diameter.
