It's worth it to buy as your beginner knife
I didn't buy this knife to begin. I purchased a different common brand knife, and I was so discouraged. I bought this knife because I was sharpening the other knife so much, and I was so mad. I was mad at myself for not spending the extra $10 and buying this knife in the beginning! It came sharp, and it has stayed sharp. The handle is very ergonomic so my hand doesn't strain. I can get through a project a lot quicker now, and my cuts are so much cleaner. It's worth the cost to get this knife when your learning.

You had better be wearing a glove or two when using this knife. Sharp right out of the box.
I am fairly new to carving but certainly not new to knives. This is a fine knife, sharp out of the box and ready to use. I did strop it a few times to bring it to a polished finish but I wouldn't have had to if I was just going to start whittling some basswood. The handle is very comfortable in the hand and the blade holds an edge for a good long while. Also, the handle has a light finish of lacquer that can be easily sanded off if you prefer bare wood. I, myself, prefer the look and feel of finished wood. Of course, there are better knives out there if you want to spend more money, but for the beginner or intermediate carver this is a great knife and I challenge anyone to find a better knife at this price point. I, personally, have yet to find one.

great knife for carving
I struggled with beaver craft knifes.. so I tried this (flex cut) knife and its so much better. Looking at this knife ..its angle is more and carbon steel holds the sharpness way longer. this knife is smooth in it slice as a beaver craft you have to push harder and cuts are wavy and rough.. this knife is smooth and easy to slice thru wood.. I highly reccomend this knife as higher quality and better knife. For 10 dollars more.. get this knife and enjoy your carving time..plus its made in the USA..

Sharp as the devil
Fits nicely in your hand, and makes carving super easy. Id stick to soft or green wood with this blade thickness..beant the tip in hard dried maple. This little blade is so sharp, and keeps on edge for awhile. Great craftsmanship, definetly wirth the extra money

Works well for Wood Sculptures
Very sharp and works very well. It gets dull pretty quickly though, and requires frequent sharpening to get the best cut.

best carver for the money
The cheaper carving knives are pathetic compared to Flexcut. The more expensive ones are better, but not so much so that I feel they warrant the price. Overall, it's hard to beat the quality, edge retention, comfort, and value of a Flexcut knife...FOR THE MONEY. The closest competitor is OCC, but good luck getting your hands on one. I tried several vendors and they gouged you on prices when they had them in stock. This 1.75" rouging blade is the most versatile size I own too. I find myself doing 3/4 of the work with this blade. It's just big enough for removing a lot of wood, but still small enough for most roughing and a lot more detail than I expected. This size blade is also easier to maintain than the really small ones. I've had this a long time and have never had to sharpen it. I just hone it about once per hour of use and it's held up phenomenally!Overall, this is my go-to brand and I'm glad I chose it, but someday if I get better, I may splurge for a Helvie. My carving mentor, Doug Linker can't be wrong about Helvie, but until then Flexcut will get all my money.
