ROCKLER Five Piece Power Grip Carving Set (Japan Import)

Could be the best $30 I’ve ever spent! I have since bought much more expensive carving tools, but these gouges are real workhorses. I return to them again and again for carving wood blocks. Holding up great after two years.👍

I have owned these this set for years and these have worked extremely well on just about every wood I have tried. They came incredibly sharp out of the box. Sharp enough they are able to slice through endgrain on soft wood like cedar/pine without any tearing. (Very difficult to achieve!) Size is perfect for doing small/detailed carvings and the edge retention is incredible!

Razor sharp edges right out of the box.

I use the tools for linocut. Sharp, easy to hold. However, two of the tools can only be used by right handed people. So, just be aware of that. I am left handed and cannot use those 2 tools. The "V"and U shaped tools work great though.

The handles are a comfortable size and shape. The carving blades are set firmly in the handles and are sharp. Good beginner set, reasonably priced. I've used them successfully on wood and lino.

I bought this set to carve a woodblock on cherry plywood. I've been happy with the tools, and mostly use the two u-gouges. Fairly easy to hone with a slipstrop block.
