Excellent Electronic Combo Lock
I now have three of these electronic combination locks. Two are on exterior doors, one interior. They are excellent. The lock is easy to install, easy to program and easy to operate. It features an LED that illuminates the keypad in the dark, but you need to know the secret button to press to turn the LED on. (You press the word "Schlage" above the keypad.) For multiple users, different combinations can be programmed in or removed. The locks have worked well for me in our extreme heat desert environment. Batteries are easy to change, but you need a small Phillips screwdriver to open the access panel. The reason to install a combination lock is so when the door closes, it is locked. This lock does this. However, if you want the door to remain unlocked, you simply turn the knob on the inside 90 degrees and the lock becomes a simple passageway latch. The lock comes in various finishes and handle styles. I chose bright chrome with a modern handle, to match my other hardware. Can install in 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" setback, 1-3/8" or 1-3/4" thick doors. Fits standard 2-1/8" hole. The keypad is easy to see and easy to operate. Overall look and feel is great. Most importantly, the lock has been very reliable. Day in, day out, hot or cold, the lock functions. Other battery-powered combo locks I've owned have failed (keypad became dicey; rapid battery failure) or had a poor design (difficult to grip and turn; keypad difficult to see and touch). This is Schlage quality -- a strong, reliable, long-life lock. Great lock.

Junk spend the extra money and buy a new one!
Junk, scratch and dent item and the lock never powered up. This was definitely a very poorly refurbished item. The levers slid on and locked into place but were very loose. Initiated a return right away and spent another $30 to buy from a local hardware store. The new lock powered up as soon as the battery was connected, no dents and levers connected well. Easy install. Spend the extra money and buy a new one to save the aggravation.

Pretty good for the price
This is a decent residential entry lockset. It looks very nice and quality is about average for this grade. There are some cast aluminum parts inside and would certainly not hold up for heavy use in a commercial environment. It's fairly secure, but my entry door has a big glass panel in it, so I rely on other things for that. The keypad works well, the beep can be turned off (I have too many beeps in my life) and it has several useful programing functions. Also, if the battery fails and you're outside, it has two small contacts that a 9 volt battery can be applied to and allow entry. Keep in mind that the thumb lever is a switch, not mechanical, so if the board fails, the door won't unlock (or lock). There is plenty of warning when the internal battery is failing, but you should consider changing them annually or more often depending upon your use and climate. Installation is typically not very difficult, and programming isn't much trouble either. Pay close attention to how the wire that passes through the door is routed; it can easily be pinched by the rotating mechanism. When looking at the unit from the inside, the wire should go upwards and to the left. You'll see a channel that the thumb turn lever wires are in; that's where it goes. But then, suddenly: the one I received was inoperable. The outside handle would not operate the latch under any condition. This operates by a small motor that causes a pin to engage a slot and allow the outside handle to turn the latch; a type of clutch, if you will. The motor is driven from the PC board that the keypad is attached to. I ran through the included troubleshooting guide, which, in my case, told me to call customer service. They confirmed that I had diagnosed the problem correctly and immediately sent me another. Before I boxed it back up, I pulled the back cover off to see if I could see anything obvious. The small connector socket for the wires that drive the lock/unlock motor had broken off the PC board and been replaced using superglue. Soldering is the recommended practice when attaching things to PC boards, and superglue is normally used for pranking people you don't like, so that was it. I soldered it back on properly and it then worked fine. Obviously, this did not come this way from the factory, and I suspect that it got that way through some sort of post-production tomfoolery. That said, I'm going with it.

Wish I would have purchased this a year ago!
I am using this to replace a keyed Schlage doorknob on the door from the garage to the mud room. This was a breeze to install! Maybe it helped that I was replacing an existing Schlage doorknob or maybe it’s just really easy to install. It took less than 10 minutes, and that included taking out the old doorknob. It was extremely easy to program a new code as well. Eliminates the need to take a key with me when I am walking the dog or fumble for a key when my hands are full. Also I can set up a separate code for our dog walker and change it if needed, without having to rekey the house. One other tip- we do not have latitude levers throughout our house. We have Schlage Plymouth knobs. The beauty of Schlage is that all levers and knobs are interchangeable. So I put the lever on the garage/keypad side (easier to open with grocery bags in hands, etc). I ordered an extra Plymouth doorknob and placed that on the interior side so it matched the rest of the knobs inside. The levers and knobs just slip on and off the assembly when you push in a small clip on the assembly. (I actually love the look and ease of the latitude lever so much though, I may just replace all the knobs in my house.) So if you were hesitant to buy because you have Schlage knobs or levers that don’t match what’s offered, there is a simple solution to that.

just what I needed
Very happy with this lock as well as other Schlage products. The quality, fit and function are excellent. For my application, the action of the lever is ideal. Lock enabled, lock disabled. It’s not keypad enable, keypad disabled. In other words, in one position, the lock is in pass through (unlocked), so you don’t have to key in a code. If you are using this lockset on a closet, as I am, this is ideal.

Schlage is quality and reliability
I purchased the Schlage Century smart deadbolt for my front door and have been really happy with its performance. So purchasing this lock from Schlage was a no brainer when we installed a separate entrance door. Installation was super simple, same as the other smart lock. There are no smart features with this lock, no alerts or anything, but for what it is, it’s a great lock. The black looks super sleek, especially with our french door. I was a little concerned during install when I saw that the two handles sit at different heights (see picture) but everything has worked perfectly. No issues so far that other reviewers have mentioned so hopefully this one lasts a while.

We bought 6 units 4 out of 6 failed within a week of use. Do not use these these in cold weather..
These will fail in cold weather leaving you with no way to enter your house. Not recommended..

Pretty Slick.
Honestly these locks are amazing. We used the dead bolt version on one door for two years before buying one of these. I’ve now got 3 electronic lever sets. So easy for the kids coming home from school and no worries of lost keys!
