College/University Sampler
The Insider's Guide To The Colleges (41st Edition) Students On Campus Tell You What You Really Want To Know (compiled and edited by the Staff of The Yale Daily News) features a sample list of colleges/universities across the United States. The address of each college andor university mentioned, the year that the college andor university was founded, the deadline and approximate application fee at the time of the writing of each college/university featured, an educational place on the east coast where a multiple number of students in their free time are known for working at their places of employment andor volunteering, a university listed in this book on the east coast where a significant number of students feel that there are a variety of options to study college major wise (listed to be a commuter type of school in a wealthy suburb page 506), a school with an abundant range of extracurricular activities and clubs (page 110) and more. The caveat is that a multiple number of colleges are unlisted in this book. Still this book is strong for gathering some ideas.

A few tiny problems, but overall a good guide
I love the book. The lists provide a good place to start researching colleges and the descriptions offer a nice insight into the schools. However, there might be a mistake here and there, for the Kindle version at least UCLA has 33% acceptance rate. Not saying it's too high, it's at the very least inconsistent with the lists before: "Schools Accepting <25% of Applicants." Also the search option is off for Kindle, making it hard to navigate to each college. (Would be nice if the schools on the lists were links, but on the other hand that would be a bit messy). All in all, it's a must have, but not as an only guide. Have more resources to back up your college research!

Strongly recommended!
Interesting for college wannabes to read what current students are experiencing at a significant number of some top institutions country-wide.It's like the missing ingredient to Fiske, which I'd strongly suggest as a companion.

It has information she hasn't seen elsewhere and is helping her to make great choices for her potential school list
My 11th grader thinks this book has been very helpful. It has information she hasn't seen elsewhere and is helping her to make great choices for her potential school list...

Great resource.
Have given this to two high school seniors. Great resource. My daughter used it 30 years ago and I thought it was valuable resource.

Mediocre at best
Decades ago, this was a super book. I think it has lost out to on-line reviews and competitors. It is no longer particularly fresh or insightful.

A waste of money
A waste of money. Some of the data listed is flat out wrong. For example, in the 2015 guide, tuition at Northwestern University is listed at $38,088, when in fact the tuition is $46,868, and the Percent Accepted rate is listed as 26% when in fact it is 12.9%. The authors clearly don't fact check or update their information which calls into question everything presented in the book. Buy another guide.

Not as zesty as it was when I was in high school (1970's)
The Insider's Guide has become much more corporate, bloated and schematic than it was originally. The charm of the original editions was its unapologetic iconoclasm and its eschewal of statistics, which were the meat and potatoes of the mainstream college guides. The current Insider's Guide wants to be an all-in-one machine, totally unnecessary with the Internet as a research tool. So I'm not so thrilled about it. I don't think it's going to fire the imaginations of my teenage sons, honestly.
