Would this work for a one year old?

Yes as long as your child can sit up on a chair without side rails. I bought this for my 1 1/2 year old and he still uses it at now almost 3

Why is the pink paw patrol st $20 more?

The pink/purple item toys are always a tad bit more than the basic colored items like red/blue/yellow because apparently making a toy those colors (pink and purple) raises the prices. It is supposedly called the "pink tax."

What is the size of the chairs?

Chair backs are about 20 inches tall. My 3 year old granddaughter fits perfectly!
