Teach Yourself Visually Knitting Design: Working from a Master Pattern to Fashion Your Own Knits (Teach Yourself Visually)

This book is Indispensable for beginning knitting designing! I've had this for about a month and I've learned so much that has made designing almost anything effortless and fun! I highly recommend this book if you're interested in designing knitting patterns and how to make writing them a breeze!

I will start out with the worst thing about this book: The binding. It will come apart with any regular use. My original copy of this book was so mangled that I was actually relieved when it went missing during a move, just because it meant I could get a new (hopefully) sturdier copy of it. Nope. My new book actually came to me with the same pages beginning to come out. Don't let this deter you from buying it- just be prepared to take it and have a new spiral binding put in at Office Depot before it gets too bad.OK. Other than that, this book is amazing. If you have a pattern idea in your head, know your what size you are making it and the gauge of your yarn, you can knit virtually anything with this book. I consider myself a fairly experienced knitter and I have a huge library of knitting books, yet this is the ONLY one I ever use on a consistent basis. It has a tutorial section in the beginning that is a good Knitting 101, and everything is explained very well. Lots of useful pictures, good glossary... this book has it all.Teach Yourself Visually also has another knitting book entitled "Knitting". I bought this by mistake once. Don't waste your money on that one. The Knitting Design book has everything you need from the Knitting book, plus so much more. I love this book. I would recommend it to anyone that knits, novice or advanced.

So sad - I really disliked this book. The math and process were difficult to follow as you had to jump all around the pages to follow a project...also just made knitting sort of boring instead of a fun adventure. I am sure there is a type of knitter who loves it - just not for me.

I purchased a bunch of book but they were still missing something. My knitting instructor recommended this book. It has everything I need... from sock making to tailoring your own sweater. Every knitter should own this book! Hopefully they make a book for crocheters.

This is a wonderful book to add to your knitting library. With master patterns for scarves, hats, bags, socks, mittens and gloves, vests, and sweaters everything is just about covered. Many variations are offered to make each knitted item your very own design. And I really love being able to use the yarn and needles that I have on hand rather than having to buy more yarn for a certain project. This book will give you inspiration for a lifetime of knitting.

I have only been knitting (effectively) for about 5 or 6 months now, but I am hooked!! This book is wonderful. It didn't go into as much detail as I was hoping on how to actually design one's own knitting patterns, but it is certainly a great text for helping you customize other patterns or ideas. It is thorough, clear, informative and LOADED with options. A great book for beginners and pros -- if I am any judge.

I love that the numbers are done for me. Before I purchased this book I didn't realize that many of the patterns I was buying I bought because I wanted to use the basic idea...not the entire pattern. This book has been by my side for many original projects since it arrived in the mail.

I'm an accomplished knitter, been knitting for years, made lots of things, and this book is THE KEY to creating your own patterns. It's perfect for intermediate & up knitters who wish to make their own patterns. I have 2 books that are going to help me with creating my own knitting software, and this is one of them! It's crutial to know how to work off of a 'master pattern', and how the pieces are shaped & made to your preference & exact body measurements. This book is DEFINATELY not for those who wish to learn to knit, you'll just be lost, but for those 'accomplished' knitters, who are bored w/the same 'ol patterns and would like to spice things up and make a 'one of a kind' item, THIS BOOK IS A NECESSITY!

A very good book telling all about how to knit, and explaining patterns

Just what I needed for design work.

Have only worked from the glove master pattern so far, but everything was clear, well laid out and easy to understand. If the rest of the master patterns work as well as the glove pattern then I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to get started in designing their own knitwear.

I love this book! I am a reasonably good knitter and this book has given me the confidence to try new ideas using the master patterns. A big thankyou to the author for writing an publishing this ook
