Love the walnut and stilton cheese soda bread – plus a note on editions
Love spelt, a sweet and nutty grain, and made the lovely walnut and stilton cheese soda bread. I want to try other recipes, but wish there were more for the whole grain. Take note, however: there are various editions. This is the American edition (ISBN 978-1-84899-196-5), so the measurements are by volume only. If you want measurements also by weight, imperial and metric, look for the world edition (ISBN: 9781848992290).

A great book for baking with spelt!
This book is very helpful and inspiring! I just started using spelt after trying my hand at einkorn. (Also get Carla Bartolucci's Einkorn cookbook!) I have successfully made several recipes from this cookbook to my family's delight! The recipes are easy to follow and turn out great. If you are trying to figure out how to use spelt flour this is the right cookbook. Spelt is especially easy to bake with after working with einkorn. I have found my new favorite sandwich loaf in this book, Sharpham Park Farmhouse Loaf.

Wow, I bought this book because of the cover and the title. The online review at Amazon sounded very interesting. But I am so glad that I went with my gut and purchased the book. The book is a delight to read and the recipes that I have tried so far have been great. In fact I just made another batch of the "crackers" that go with the smoked mackerel dip. I think this is the 5th batch, or maybe 6th batch. They are so addictive and so easy to make. I have them with cheese and Italian dry salami, heaven. If you are thinking about getting a book on Spelt start with this one. There are others available, but not as elegant, in my opinion. I am think of giving this as a Christmas gift for a friend who has a wheat allergy but can east spelt. This book is really, really, good.

better for a hobby cook than a busy mom
This is a beautiful book and I really wanted to love it. The textured, embossed cover and the gorgeous pictures and the fact that I already love spelt, are in its favor. However, I was looking for recipes that are family friendly and healthy. These are more gourmet, with high time requirements and not mostly appealing to my children. Also, the majority call for white spelt flour, when I prefer to use whole grain.

Good recipes I'm looking forward to trying
Good recipes I'm looking forward to trying. Disappointed that there are not more recipes for spelt berries; most are for spelt flour, still glad to have purchased the book.

Very inaccurate and uninspiring
spelt sourdough loaf, the recipe is very inaccurate. Take just the weights for example. 600 ml water, 250g starter, 500g flour. The total loaf weight is given as 600g. The recipe also results in a thin slop which is very thin, like goo, not at all anywhere close to a bread dough. I know btw, I have been making beautiful sd breads for 40 years. I would not at all recommend this book, it is all about selling spelt items made for sharpham. I thought the book would inspire me but in fact it was a complete waste of money and I would not recommend

Style over substance?
Some excellent recipes but many require the use of just white spelt, I was hoping for more healthier wholemeal options. Also I don't really think it's fair to include recipes for soup that are finished with cubes of spelt bread or arancini that are dusted in spelt flour before being coated in panko breadcrumbs. Didn't really need an expensive cookbook to work out I could make that substitution. A lovely book to look at with some good recipes but more substance and a bit less style was more what I was looking for.

Disappointing
Disappointing. Only one sourdough recipe which is surely wrong. 500g of flour, 600ml of water and 250 of starter just leaves you with a soup. Perhaps they mean 250 of a solid starter? Still very high hydration. Added a lot more flour to bring it together but keep it sticky, will see how it turns out!As others have said, the lack of recipes with whole grain flour is a shame.

Boring and not helpful
Most of the recipes are for the white spelt which is hard to find in our supermarkets and a lot of the recipes are meat based. Wanted more of the baking side, but it was lacking in those. A bit naff. Now stuck with a bag of wholemeal spelt and not much to cook with it.
