A good sample pack
The vet ran test on my fur baby & diagnosed her with kidney issues then gave us an RX for Hills Diet KD. We ran straight to find this special food but the prices are CRAZY EXPENSIVE. I purchased a couple of cans, got home & sweet Bella turned up her nose at it. While surfing the web I found this sample pack- a true life saver 🙌 With these samples of canned & dry kibbles in different flavors I was able to narrow down exactly what she liked before making another wasted purchase. This is definitely worth purchasing.

Great for a dog on a renal diet...
Our 13 year-old Chihuahua/terrier mix had to have all of his teeth pulled because they were in bad shape. The vet also said he had moderate kidney issues. It took him a couple days to get used to this food but it has made a huge difference in his quality of life! Even with no teeth, he eats fine. Dogs adapt to not having teeth. He even found a way to eat the Milk Bone 5 calorie treats we've always given him. No more weepy eyes/crusties. His eyes are brighter, he's acts healthier, his coat stays clean, his fur around his mouth doesn't stain like it used to. We'll be sticking with this diet.

It’s expensive, on top of the Ve’s bill!
For the price you pay to get this food, the “quote” settlement in the cans, not one all cans, is generally 1/2 to 3/4 inch, which is a meal. My dog is small/medium size and 3 meals w/kibble is all I could get. Very pricy food, plus not sure why it has to be prescription, added $$ on each order. We will see how long my budget can handle the gold plated meal on a 13 year old dog. Much as I love him!

Great way to try the products
My dog has been placed on Kidney care dry food and I was looking for a corresponding canned product to add to his meals. The starter pack was a great way to try the various canned products (and dry) with one purchase. I am very pleased and now know which ones he likes the most.

Please read, absolutely awful experience
My 14 year old dog was diagnosed with kidney disease and her vet suggested this food. Something in the food had her acting like an addict. She trembled constantly. Anytime she even thought about eating or we were preparing her food, she shook. We travel every weekend for about an hour trip. Previously did fine for years. After being on this food, she panted and shook the entire ride. At night, settling down, trembled. We had to keep putting blankets in the dryer to warm them and put them on her. Previously she ate Farmers Dog food and was on 350 calories a day. Recommended volume of food for her size with this food is 800 calories. We gave her a little less than that and we could not satisfy her appetite. She’d be up late in the evening stressing and wanting more. She was also pooping 4+ times a day. How can that be helpful to her kidneys if she has to process that much food? It was a horrible 4-5 weeks. After a month, we retested her blood and there was no improvement. Some markers were even worse, including her cholesterol which spiked. I finally found a dog nutritionist who specializes in recipes for dogs with kidney disease. I now cook these recipes for her and she is back to herself. ZERO trembling. And we have dialed way back on calories and she’s doing great. She is satisfied with the volume. Now pooping one or two much smaller poops a day. I read through reviews and am surprised I’m the only one reporting this type of experience. I don’t like giving bad reviews, but when a product has the potential to have such a negative effect on our babies, my conscience wouldn’t allow me not to post. I have not yet retested her blood and will update this when I do. Please be careful. Listen to your vet, but you know your dog better than anyone and don’t be afraid to change course if you need to.
