How its the smell?

I used several bottles of this before permanently switching to Sawyer.  I love picaridin as a repellent.  The Natrapel has kind of a sweet powdery odor...not terribly strong but strong enough that it bothers me (it's not nearly as overpowering as any of the lemon-eucalyptus products, and it only lasts several hours whereas the lemon you can smell for weeks).  The Sawyer is about as close to truly scent-free as you can get, just an extremely light non-fragrance smell from it that goes away very quickly after application.  Natrapel is cheaper and easier to find in stores but the fragrance was a turnoff for me.

What are the other/inactive ingredients?

Per the EPA's guidelines for personal insect repellents, all ingredients (both active and inert) must be listed on the label on the box. Only active ingredients are listed by weight. Inactive ingredients are not listed because they are a proprietary blend. I hope that is helpful!

will this work to repel ticks? we live in heavy tick area

I went to the actual website and played their video and it says it does contain deet.   why does it say deet free  here?
