This is a small pocket book with excellent illustrations of a large number of butterflies and moths. While not all inclusive it does contain the great majority of those likely to be encountered. It is a very good buy

Exactly what she was looking for. High quality paper, purse size.

I saw this and it reminded me of a deep interest I had when I was young. One of the best impulse buys I ever made. Spent hours reading it and it sparked me to get my sketch pad out. Hours of enjoyment for very little money.

Helpful information. Appreciate drawings of different stages. Ready to put it in my pocket and walk through a botanical garden! There are so many butterflies that I’ve learned about…now I would like to see them in person.

I bought this book as my first book to begin designing my own crocheted butterflies and possibly some moth designs, and I wanted a basic coverage of butterfly and moth shapes without a great deal of scientific and technical detail. This book fills the bill admirably with good pictures of butterflies and moths. According to the forward, they "...included all the more common, widespread, important, or unusual kinds..." of North America. They also have range maps for many of the examples. The illustrations are beautiful--incredibly detailed drawings (paintings?) by Andre Durenceau. I wish I could capture their full beauty in crochet, or even beadwork! Perhaps some day.... Anyway, this book will provide many, many design ideas for me. I believe you could identify most any butterfly or moth pictured in this book because the illustrations are superb. The first half of the book is given to butterflies, the second to moths.

This guide is surprisingly helpful for its size. The drawings are pretty good. I wish the distribution maps were more detailed and the drawings showed wings from both sides. It even includes the scientific names of the species showed in the book.

This is a small book, but has lots of information for its size. Excellent introduction to appreciating butterflies and moths.

great little book

This book just arrived today and I must say for the money it is above what I expected. It is clear and concise. The pictures and illustrations are of an extraordinary quality. The compact size makes this book the perfect take along to be added to my camera equipment bag for my next outing. An excellent choice in my opinion.

Superb resource for anyone interested in a quick concise guide. I use it for programming.
