WRONG WRONG WRONG!
I was ASTOUNDED BY WRONG/BAD INFO! Apparently this author has little ACTUAL KNOWLEDGE OR only culled from other literature info on orchid care. Just a quick run down on WRONG INFO: pg 34: USE ICE CUBES TO WATER ORCHIDS... NEVER! Great way to KILL them slowly(see Ice Cube Orchids Review). Tepid filtered or rain water & most knowledgeable books explain watering for the difference species.Pg 39-REPOTTING-"Keep repotted plant in SUNLIGHT for 1st few days" WRONG- unless you want to FRY THEM! Put newly repotted plants in a moist cool(65`) SHADY SPOT for a week or two.Pg 41- PRUNING-"TIME FOR IT TO BE PRUNED HAS ARRIVED SO THAT IT CAN FLOWER AGAIN NEXT SEASON.... EMERGING BLOOMS"-REALLY BAD ADVICE! The few orchid species that REBLOOM from the flower stem-called a SPIKE-are phals & only IF THE SPIKE IS LEFT INTACT! If you cut it off IT WILL NEVER REBLOOM & DOES NOT REBLOOM FROM A CUT STEM AT ANYTIME-EVER! A new spike will emerge from the NEW GROWTH-NOT old growth or spikes except when you leave a phal' s spike alone & it flowers FROM THE END or sends up a side shoot."DRY & WILTED STEMS & LEAVES" there are NO LEAVES ON SPIKES! "GREAT CARE......NO HARM COMES ON THE EMERGING BLOOMS" plants NEVER REBLOOM from ANY OLD STEM the next YEAR!Pg 42 "ANOTHER PRUNING METHOD INVOLVES CUTTING THE FLOWERING STALK JUST ENOUGH SO THAT IT WILL FLOWER AGAIN" IMPOSSIBLE for ANY OLD SPIKE to REBLOOM if it's cut! In fact just THROW OUT pg 42 ENTIRELY. NOTHING is CORRECT!Pg 43 "#7, FINE MEDIUM SHOULD BE USED FOR ORCHIDS THAT HAVE FINE ROOTS" BULL! Potting medium is determined by the type orchid, Terrestrial, Epiphytes & Lithophytic. Then there are also multiple growth types. The "Bible" of orchids is " The New Encylopedia of Orchids" by Isobyl La Croix. Others by Albert P. Hollingsworth is 1 of the BEST, Judy White is also knowledgeable.Find a book written by an orchid expert & you'll never go wrong. The $10.99 I spent on this book is WASTED! DON'T BUY IT!Hope you find the best knowledgeable author & buy, grow & flower a multitude of orchids. Orchid CACTUS -EPIPHYLLUMS-are also wonderful & much easier to grow. I have over 50 orchid plants, 5 blooming right now & over 3 dozen Epi s. I've grown & sold orchids since 1970s & Epis for over 22 YEARS. I LOVE BOTH! KNOWLEDGE IS THE KEY! ENJOY!

Easy to follow
This is a great guide to get started with if you are also into growing orchids like me. Advice offered is very clear and easy to follow. I really appreciate that there is an FAQ attached at the end of the book, so that I can also be awareness of things that I didn't think of before but should need to know as well. The "Simple Tricks and Ideas" offered in the end also gives me a lot of important information like the sequence of watering and fertilizing, using fan for air circulation, what I can learn from deformed flowers and etc. All in all, I believe this introductory guide can save you both time and money to help you do your homework before growing your first orchids;)

Judge Not by the Cover
The cover was so pretty I bought the Kindle version. However, for a "thumbnail sketch" about growing orchids this "booklet" is just OK. There were quite a few typos or editing mistakes and made me think it may have been written by a person who has English as a second language. I did get enough information to determine I need more research before I decide to try raising orchids in dry Nebraska. I don't recommend buying this book but the inexpensive Kindle version will be only a general introduction to the subject.

Disappointed
Massively disappointed with the value for money of this item. This is not a comprehensive guide to Orchids by any means so beware. Take out the contents, copyright notice, preface and FAQ and you are left with only 24 pages of "book" printed in super big text. 10 pages of the 24 contain largish pictures It just feels like some photocopied paper with a binding.
