A LOT OF NICE DRAWINGS BY SARGENT
I really enjoyed these pictures by John Singer Sargent. He really had a lot of talent. I plan on looking and studying these pictures in future.

Excellent Portraits for Study and Inspiration
This book is a fantastic, high quality collection of Sargent's charcoal works. For someone like myself who isn't particularly interested in paintings but rather pencils and sketches and lineworks, this book is a godsend. It is fairly large and the drawings take up a goodly amount of space on the pages. The binding is sturdy for it's size and the pages have a good feel to them, none too thin and whatnot. It arrived in excellent condition. My one complaint that I wish there were more drawings. However, while forty-two works may seem like a paltry amount, and the book itself is worryingly thin, there is much to see and appreciate in this. Hopefully some day very soon there will be a book released for the grand collection of Sargent's dry medium works, which the book makes an astute mention of that they are under appreciated and quickly discounted due to their nature and number. In regards to the text of the book, it's only a couple of pages and none to obtrusive. I've seen reviews in other Sargent collections complaining of amount of text in them in contrast to the amount of actual plates. If you're worried this book is more of a lecture than a showcase fit for study, don't be. However if you are looking for some insight as to Sargent's techniques you will be rather put-out.In all, I expected no less in quality from Dover. I still wish there were more pages however.

Excellent reference
Although Sargent was an American, I consider him a European, having been raised and educated for much of his life in Europe. However, I claim him as America's premier portraitist. The man was a bloody genius. All of the books which show his work are well worth purchasing. This little book is no exception and is a good edition to any artist's bookshelf, or for those interested in Sargent's work, and who wouldn't be interested in this great artist.

Excellent resource for portrait practice
Bought this to practice portraiture by copying and analysing the masters' works. I got Sargent's collection because he was one of the portrait artists that I look up to. When the book arrived, it did not disappoint. Gorgeous content and quality. It arrived earlier than expected and with no damage.

Nice Book "Antiqued" by Amazon
The media could not be loaded. Well, this is my first complaint about an Amazon purchase. The book came just this morning, and it's pretty crunched. Came in a bubble envelope, but no stiffener was used so it was "antiqued" on its way to me.Amazon should have known better. It's a thin book, paperback, with stapled binding - it clearly was not going to survive the shipment unscathed. Still, it's usable for my purposes (trying to learn to draw) so a beater copy will do. Really unusual for Amazon though. Most everything I get from them is wrapped well enough to be air dropped. The good news: nice drawings! See the video.

Glad I bought a used copy fir a minimal amount of money
This is a 40 page book with mediocre reproductions of Sargent’s work. It’s more like a booklet- stapled together and rather slim. I’ll use it for practice but I’m glad I didn’t pay for a new copy.

What would you expect from the master ?
A good book full of great drawings by one of the best artist I have ever studied. The price is right and you should not waist one more minute before you order it.I always like to see how the great artist draw, since drawing is the back bone to good painting in my mind.I really get a kick out of artist who say they can't draw and can only paint, sure.. Thats like saying you never learned to walk and that you can only run.Sargent used to say you should draw every day and I think he was right.
