You don't need to wait for a camping trip to have S'mores any more. Have them every day with this electric look-alike "campfire." Place marshmallows on heating "branches" and place into heating chamber. Place Hershey's Chocolate Bar on a graham cracker. Once marshmallow is melted, place hot marshmallow on top of Hershey's Chocolate Bar. Add a second cracker, and your S'more is ready to eat.Adult partial assembly required. Requires 60W clear candalabra lightbulb. Food products not included. Heat shield base can be removed with a Philips screwdriver to wash. Approximately 10" tall. Requires 4 "D" batteries (not included).

Safe and Fun
Even though it takes a while for the marshmallow to melt enough to be yummy, it does not make the food really hot so that it safe enough to let my youngest use it. Clean up is pretty easy as you can just put the "sticks" in the dishwasher. The (round, candelabra base) bulbs are extra, of course, so make sure you have some before the kids get their hands on it because they may want to use it right away! The device will shut off if knocked over, which is good. We also don't move it until after it cools off so maybe the bulb will last longer. We have s'mores about once a week.If you want s'mores fast, use a microwave. If you want them at their yummiest, use a campfire. If you want them safe and fun for kids, use this and your imagination and use the wait time to take a break yourself and spend some time talking with the child(ren) about camping and preparedness and stuff!

A hit
I have to change my original review which called this a disappointing toy. . . after a week or so, my 9-year son has pulled this out over and over to make Smores, once when a friend was over playing, and the friend also loved the toy. From my adult eyes, this was nothing special -- but I must say my son seems to really like it. I'm glad Santa brought it!

Doesn't get hot enough to really melt anything. Microwave first then pretend to use the s'more machine for good results the kids enjoy.

It "worked" for my sons first camping themed birthday, for the toddlers to use.. But it took way to long to melt the marshmallow so after two kids everyone lost interest!

Smores maker
The prodcut worked "ok" and was more fun to think about using than to actually use. I would reccomend, sticking to the traditional way.

Again, I did not order this item. I have no idea what it is doing in my list of items to rate. So just ignore this. If it is nice, I have no idea.

Takes a long time to make a S'more, and it doesn't come out right
My daughter was very excited to get this toy after asking for it for 6 months from seeing it in TV ads. She was disappointed with the results, and so were the adults:(1) Bulb adds another $3 to the cost of the toy. It was not easy to find.(2) Marshmallows don't roast. They just soften. So, chocolate never melts, since the marshmallow is not really hot. I agree that this makes it safer, but the results are disappointing if you are expecting a campfire-type result, which she was after viewing the TV ads. Even the box says "roast marshmallow" - it's only the instructions inside that say "soften marshmallow."(3) It takes a long time to go from start to finish - 6 minutes to heat up the unit, 5 to 6 minutes to soften the marshmallows, two at a time. In our case, it was five of us waiting for S'mores. That was 25 minutes for all of us to get one. Good thing we had a pre-set limit of one each.We used Ghirardelli chocolate squares - about the same price as Hershey's but with higher cocoa content and without the hydrogenated oils.I wouldn't buy this toy again, but what may matter more is what my daughter thinks. She says she should have asked for an Easy-Bake oven instead.

YOU NEED A "ROUND" CANDELABRA (tiny base) 60 watt BULB
I bought this item a few weeks ago as a gift which was just given and opened yesterday. It was a big hit. Along with it I also had a box with the graham crakers, marsmallows, candy bars and light bulbs so that it could be used immediately if desired. The recipient was a 7 yr old and she was thrilled with it along with her 4 yr old little brother. The bulbs I got were not round, they were the pointy kind but they said 60watt and candelabra so I thought it was the right one. Thankfully I only live across the street and had the round candelabra bulbs for other light fixtures around the house. It would help if the box showed the picture to avoid the confusion since it says a 60 watt candelabra bulb. In any case, I was overjoyed with the results and I really am contemplating getting the machine for my 4 yr old. She really liked making her smore's last night, too!!! Apparently the little girl used it again this morning after eating all her breakfast. The best part is that all the necessities are cheap unlike the easy-bake oven refills ;-)january,11,2005-- I did end up getting this item for my child. It is a real treat for her.
