This is junk. Please don't buy this otoscope.
Welch Allen is a fine company that has provided quality equipment for my pediatric practice for 45 years. I needed an otoscope for my home so I assumed this otoscope (being Welch Allen) was quality. It is unmitigated junk. Horrible flimsy on/ off switch. Flimsy build. The speculae are white translucent plastic that reflects light, not the black that were pictured in the Amazon photo. Do not buy this otoscope. John Hertenstein, MD

stops working
Lasted wonderfully for about 3 months, had some issues with the switch turning the otoscope on in my bag and running the batteries out, but I started taking the batteries out when it wasn’t in use. Unfortunately it randomly stopped working and I’m not sure there’s anything I can do to fix it, the item is also out of the return window so now I’m short $70 and need a new otoscope. Might be useful if you need an otoscope for a month, but it probably won’t last you long. Also the light was not incredibly bright to begin with.

Otoscope
I didn't get the item I ordered. I ordered a Welch Allyn otoscope. I got an off brand. I ordered this item because Welch Allyn has a long history of making quality medical instruments.

Not good for clinical use
Seems cheaply made and not durable. This also did not come with probes. The item pictured showed it had several disposable probes with it. It came with none. The quality of the magnification was barely acceptable to view to determine if the membrane was red/pink. I’d choose a higher quality one for clinical use.

Flimsy/damaged on arrival
What other reviewers have written about the flimsy on/off switch turned out to be true with mine. And this was not supposed to be a “ cheap” otoscope. Packaged impeccably but opened up the box and the on-off flipper switch was dangling and was obviously broken. Furthermore, be advised. No battery included. This didn’t meet my needs. I couldn’t find another on line that was good AND under $300. A friend gave me one of her old wall-mounted units (great!) and in the meantime a medical supply company called me back and said they had good previously-owned ones in my price range. So think about that possibility.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!
This is the worst quality product I have ever bought on Amazon. I cannot even believe that they would even have the nerve to sell such a poor quality product. I am even more shocked and disappointed that Welch Alleyn would even put their name on a product of such inferior quality. I opened the package examined the item and promptly returned it. I should have known when I did not receive the product in the familiar amazon packaging that I am used to. To make matters worse I had to pay for the return and only to be told I will be refunded half what I paid because the product was returned damaged, That is the biggest scam ever!!! That is absolutely unacceptable! I filed a complaint and am waiting for a response.

I may have had higher than normal expectations for this product considering the reputation of the company and the cost. Economics 101 came to mind very fast. Cost does not guarantee a better product. This was basic in every sense of the word. The "on lever" is flimsy and I am concerned it may break at any moment. The metallic pieces are unfinished looking like they were cast and never brushed to a finish. They are pitted and have distinct casting lines. My co-workers and classmates initially thought I bought the cheapest one possible. The one saving grace this product had over the cheaper G.S.otoscope set which my coworker purchased was the brightness of the light. However, the light only lasted one day before I had to buy another one. Only one word comes to mind, "Unimpressive".

Stopped working after two weeks of use.
I purchased this otoscope going into my rotations, and I was hopeful that it would last through throughout the year. However, after only two weeks of us, it stopped working. I tried to change the batteries and tighten all of the attachments, but it would not work. I am disappointed in Welch Allyn. My return window had closed so I am stuck with a broken otoscope.
